I know this has been hashed & rehashed to death, but I've found myself playing TF-LE quite a bit lately. I updated to 1.8 right when it came out, but for some reason didn't really play it much afterwards. So, now that multiball progress is carried over I find myself getting to Sentinel Prime mode quite often and the challenge of Cybertron feels well within reach! However, a Star Trek & AC/DC Premium have both come on location near me recently and after spending some time with those games it makes me even sadder for poor TF-LE. It could have been so much more.
This game has a lot going for it. Looks great. Sounds great. Good flow. The code is just so… uninspired I guess. Every single mode is a hurry up (except Mudflap & Skids, obviously), and additionally, there are only a specific number of points available per mode. One you finish the last shot, you're done. Sorry Charlie. What if they had taken a cue from AC/DC? Instead of each character being a mode, you choose each character like you choose a song in AC/DC. Then different shots are lit, shoot them to activate other shots? Hit enough shots to earn the ability to change characters at the All Spark scoop? Playing as Ironhide should have the Ironhide playfield actually WORTH something! Same for Starscream. Have combos actually DO something, like in Star Trek? Have the ability to play a character mode more than one time, perhaps for more points like Star Trek?
Megatron's cannon shouldn't screw you out of a shot if you hit it right after a ball rolls in the back during multiball. There are trough sensors in there! They should be able to tell how many balls are in the trough vs. how many rollovers to the behind-the-cannon switch got counted! That's always bugged me.
I know it'll never happen, but I'd love to see Lyman rewrite this whole game and get a custom voice power pack from Peter Cullen.
*sigh*
