Quoted from ExSquid:

How many of you guys have pin stadium set up on your DP's? When my PRE gets here at " some point" I'm thinking of getting them. Played the game a lot on location and its definitely a little on the " dark side" in the middle of the playfield. Any opinions on this?

I personally do not like the reflection of the Pinstadiums off of the Katana. The reflection is banded if you will and not smoothly dispersed to the eye. No doubt it will brighten up the game but as many said some spotlights will do the trick to brighten the middle of the playfield.

I installed the dual spotlights on each sling but really the biggest gain you will get is pointing 1 on each sling into the upper middle. I find the lower spots help but not nearly as much as the upper.

If you go with Comet I would suggest the entire kit. The frosted sunlight bulbs that replace the reds help brighten and also make the art on the plastics shine. A perfect example of this is the "To Do" list left of the wire form. I could barely read it before.

This is what Smack is talking about. Pic taken from Robert Stone's powdercoating thread - he can coat the katana to mitigate the issue.

I just went with the Comet kit myself - prefer the sunlight over Stern's stock cool(?) white, eliminates the questionable red GI, and comes with a total of 4 spots. I added all four on the tops of the slings and the center of the playfield is great. Then added a trough lighting strip as well just for even more. Still paid considerably less than what a set of pinstadiums would have run.

Rick and Morty passed DP in the top 100

And apparently the R&M standard is much nicer than the Blood Suckers edition

That game just got enough ratings to be added to the ranks is why it jumped. The community will respond quickly as it always does and probably over react. R&M is not a top ten game in my opinion.

I may be in the minority but I actually like how the lights look reflecting off the katana blade.

#10306 2 years ago

I don't even see it anymore.

#10307 2 years ago

To each their own

I will say that if you were looking to put this on location that the spotlights can sometimes pop out of the socket, and yes I've wrapped the bases with electrical tape to make them more snug.

Balls can hit those spots with pretty good force sometimes.

I like it in a way, but think I'd dislike it more often if I had stadiums. Moot point though.

Amen. Electrical tape or not - eventually those bastards will fly out. Been a few weeks since I've had it happen, but they sure as Hell have a knack for doing it at the wrong time. Have made a habit out of squeezing them into the sockets whenever I have the glass off.

I've probably installed 40 or so spotlights in various games. I put a small dab of Goop (glue) connecting the bulb and the lamp shield. It completely solves the pop-out problem yet you can still remove the bulb if you pull on it until the Goop snaps in two.

I'm so sorry this took so long but the effort has been well worth it to light up that dark middle area a bit. The main light is red but changes to orange, green, etc according to the light that's already in the Lil DP area behind the drops .
These should be ready shortly from Mezel. I have no financial interest in this, I'm only the idea guy and test fitter . My guess is this kit will be about $50. I trimmed the stickers to let more light thru but you can use the whole sticker if you like it a bit darker.

Nice!
I debated doing this for Metallica and then thought Deadpool might be even cooler with the translucent drops. You are all over it!

So i am back.

My last prototype is finished.
I like it the most, because it has a rounder shape and that looks great.

So we have:
No. 1 the chunky
No. 2 the elegant
No. 3 the round

Also the color filters arrived and I was able to test them. Very easy replaceable and a cool feature.

I wil take the round shape as final.
Only thing I have now to decide, with wich metal part and wich rope guide I will continue.

What do you like best?

I don’t have pinstadiums so I plan on chroming the katana so it’s got a mirror finish

Looks great. are the drop targets 3D printed? I tried some 3D printing ones in a game years ago. and the result was poor.

#10317 2 years ago
Quoted from fooflighter:

Number 3 most definitely, and the number 3 pattern and metal...

Perfect then I am on the rigth track.
It is an eye catcher
Now I have to test it well but I think it will work nice as it is only a cover on the Catan and is not in a place where it can take a lot of damage.

#10318 2 years ago

These appear to be molded (no scanning lines). I had a 3D printed Winkie drop in WOZ and after 2 broke I bought the molded one and no more trouble. The drops are the same as in LZ and they've been trouble free. The light bar base is LZ based and that IS 3d printed. But it's fine as it's under the playfield and doesn't take abuse. Basically, the Mezel kit will be the same one used in LZ but with a red instead of blue light.

Hello folks,

I'm in the market for either The Mandalorian (premium) or Deadpool (premium), and I can only choose one.
I created a poll on the front page to help figure out which might be next in the collection.
Feel free to stop by and cast a vote or share your opinion.

I won the July Project Pinball raffle and had a choice of ( all premiums ) Led Zeppelin AIQ Iron Maiden DP Black Knight. I picked DP being it was the only one I played and loved it. But I can't lie, I have an argument with myself about not picking Iron Maiden sometimes. Either way I'm happy as all hell to be getting what I'm guessing one of the December builds coming up!

The smart move, no matter which pins it is, would be to buy the one that is complete, polished, and coming near the end of its run. Mando’s will be available NIB for many years to come, Deadpool not so much.

Iron Maiden is awesome and is a great game to revisit every other month. But it does get stale in a small lineup. Deadpool is a fantastic choice.

For the flippers, do most of you have them pointed at the little alignment holes or slightly lower?

The Mezel kit will include a light bar, mounting bar, 3 clear drops. I trimmed the original drop stickers so more light would show through. Here are pics of original and replacement drops. This kit should be available very soon -
I'll let y'all know in this thread . It looks really fantastic in real life...what this game needed

This has been mentioned earlier but George himself has stated that the tips of the flippers should be in line with the screws in the lane guides. This should result in slightly droopy flippers and is not relative to the alignment holes.

Mine were aligned for the first 18 months or so. I recently lowered them and it makes shots to the orbits seem smoother.

Very slightly lower into a drooped position is what George recommended before on interviews/show discussions. Keith Elwin also just mentioned liking the same on his games on the final round podcast. Shots to the side of the game get better in this orientation.

#10349 2 years ago

Thanks for the pics…. Probably explains why I struggle so much with those damn orbits. Looks like I need to drop em a bit.

Again, thank you…most helpful and appreciated.
