Quoted from Smack:

Great interview Joel. That was a fun and informative listen. Super cool to hear them break down many of the shots and how they evolved. Sounds like they had a lot of fun developing this title with a lot of leeway from Marvel to experiment.
Question for those here. How many people lube the katana ball guide as George was suggesting? He was mentioning WD-40 on a paper towel and wiping the guide down. First time I've heard that.

Yeah, I've never tried WD-40, but do use Wizards Mist & Shine or wax type products to speed up the playfield and ramps / guides.

#9952 2 years ago

I use wizards mist and shine on my pf. Works great. My DP plays great. Sometimes my katana ramp will get a little inconsistent, though. I may try the WD40 trick this weekend.

Another take away, interesting comment from George regarding pitch. It’s been discussed before but he said flat out 7deg design, and even up to 7.5.

#9953 2 years ago

I know this has been discussed several times, but how on earth is everyone getting such good scores on here. I have tried to follow the process many have referenced of focusing on battles and completing modes, but it’s just not happening for me. I’ll have what I feel is an amazing ball to look up and see a dismal score. It’s a super fun machine but that is dejecting.

DP PRO SLINGSHOT POSTS AFTER 31K PLAYS

Take the glass off and get good at hitting the snikt shot. Hit it going into battles multiballs pretty much all the time and watch the score go crazy!

If you have been focusing on Battles may I suggest a different route if only to switch things up, but I think you might learn a few things in the process.

Shoot the orbits, in particular the left orbit to get your Disco MB going. Great mode to build weapons and bonus X. Keep going for the left orbit when not in battles for Disco Spins. Lube your spinners for max rippage.

Save your Ninja MB for Quests. Get 2 locked then start one of the Quests and lock that final ball.

As you go through this route if you hit a Battle chances are you'll have some team ups to help. Overall it just opens up a lot more flow for the game. I have been playing like this for a few months and am now shifting back towards Battles as I wanna finish the game, but the 2 strats give you options.

It took me a little bit to be able to put up big scores - the advice above is very good (I'm not sure about the taking the glass off part unless that's to grab the ball and try for the Snikt shot again?)

The Snikt shot can definitely help, but when you get it is a biggie and you can also put up decent scores without it.

The left orbit is my general 'go-to' shot to build up combos and bonus multiplier by spelling Bam! (Pro model).

Getting Team Ups for battles will help you defeat them quicker and boost scores.

Using Booms strategically in Quests and pairing with Ninja Multiball can help completion and scoring as well.

Whenever I'm in a multiball, I make going for the Snikt shot a priority.

while it would be great to get a DP co-op or something DP specific, my guess is that this is a wifi enabled many to many thing that they will introduce to many recent machines. I’d rather co-op than connected right now.

The obscene 10 billion + scores are purely driven by the Snikt shot, if you can't hit that on demand completing all the modes and battles are not going to get you high scores, I can get to Megalkrakasaurus Rex with a score under a billion easily. Take Wolverine into all your battles and you won't score well, you just can't, you finish the opponent off too quickly and can't capitalize on brining Domino in and making increased value shots.

Same thing with T-Rex and Megaladon, unless you're maxing those modes out with at a minimum 3X running you are not going to score well, a simple one shot into a green target on T-Rex and then using your Boom to clear it will not get you points, you need to increase that multiple by hitting the other green shots before shooting lil dead pool with a high multiplier running.

For me this game is about fun and winning battles and modes, I don't concern myself with score on 90% of the games I play, I'll take progress over points any day on Deadpool.

#9965 2 years ago
Quoted from roar:

This is how I tend to play my games and I find 100% more enjoyment out of them vs going for points. Points are a fun byproduct of progressing deep into the game, but the progression is where I find my enjoyment. This is mainly why I don't play competitive pinball. When I find myself in a competitive setting there is a sharp difference in how well I play if I play for points vs playing for fun/progression.

If I play for points, I generally don't do well. When I mentally make the switch to play for fun, that's when I tend to do better. I ended up taking 2nd in the last tournament I played in when I consciously made that switch.

#9966 2 years ago

Man, how can you hit that shot on demand...

#9967 2 years ago

Love the mindset of progression vs. points. Gives this machine another angle to pursue.

Very strange that he would recommend WD-40 to "lube" the katana ball guide, since WD-40 is not a lube.

Quoted from beefzap:

Not sure there is one. Its pretty straight forward though. Just swap bulbs. You can add the spotlights where ever you want really, though the slings help out a lot with the center of the playfield. Also you can get bulbs from under the playfield by taking down the socket itself in a lot of cases. That can save taking out ramps, katana, etc.

Quoted from RobT:

It sounded more like cleaning the ball guide. So WD-40 as a solvent to remove goop is the intent more likely.

Good point. Perhaps he said clean and not lube as DudeRegular mentioned. Either way I had not heard of this as routine maintenance for Deadpool until George mentioned it.

I just got my pop bumpers updated to those extra-sweet metal ones, but I just noticed that the WOLVERINE figurine wasn't properly tied on the right side afterwards (what's weird is that I see a piece of zip tie hanging around the spinner, which is odd).

Can someone with a PREMIUM show me where that piece in my hand (in the picture) goes? I can't figure it out. Thanks!

Me too! WD stands for Water Displacement. To keep moisture out. That is it's purpose. Not to lubricate. My guess was just to clean it?

I took the advice of a few others in here and bought some lighting gel filters (SAKOLLA 8 Pieces Transparent Color Correction Lighting Gel Filter) to add some colour to the character inserts in the game. I am pretty happy with the results for a $15 DIY project. If you are curious this is what I used.

* T-rex - Green + Yellow
* Megalodon - Blue
* Juggernaut - Red
* Mystique - Purple
* Sabretooth - Yellow
* Sauron - Green

I might adjust Sabretooth for a little more saturation (Yellow + Orange) and possibly tweak Sauron but not quite sure how just yet. I'll likely do the playfield multipliers soon too. What do ya think?

I'm curious if everyone is able to drop catch from the scoop. I remember that on my NIB 2020 DP PRO, the scoop was shooting really at the base of the flipper, not being able to catch it. So I unscrewed the scoop and widened one hole just a tiny bit with a drill and reinstalled the scoop with a slight different angle. It worked like charm, even if you might think that was a total sin You just have to love the catch

Yes scoop should be drop catchable, one of the many fun things to do on this pin. Enjoy

People tend to recommend WD-40 for everything, but in reality in nearly every area of application I used it, WD-40 made it worse.
I only use it for tight/rusty screws that i cant unscrew, because it creeps in every little slit.
WD-40 cant easily be removed, it collects dirt and dissolves plastics or rubbers, i dont want that in my machines.

By the way, the katana ramp on a well set up DP works very well.

Totally agree, there are much better options out there for most situations.

#9990 2 years ago

It's main purpose is water displacement. It leaves behind a protective layer that prevents rust and corrosion from re-forming There are better wet lubricants out there. With all wet lubricants, black carbon dust sticks to it and makes a paste. It can even turn cement like after a short time pending on heavy usage. For pinball applications, a dry lubricant is better. Like a graphite powder lubricant.

WD-40 does make a penetrating oil that works better for that.

Regular WD-40 does work great for cleaning and polishing your stainless steel appliances though.

Spent the afternoon replacing all the rubbers to titan translucent silicon except the flippers and shooter rod. The translucent silicon really lets the great art and color shine through as well as brightens the game up a lot.

Did I miss anything important today?

Not sure yet, I told the wife I was going to work on Deadpool for like an hour. 2 hours later I had the katana ramp off still. So, I only got in a couple of games afterwards. So far so good.

I'll keep you posted though.

I love the translucent rubbers! I use the Pinball Life "Perfect Play" versions. Silicone, same as Titan I believe. I use the color versions for flipper rubbers.

Yes, they do show dirt fairly easily. I just use Novus 1 to clean them and flipper rubber as needed. Wet a microfiber towel and wipe them down while they are still in place. Surprising amount of black buildup, but this cleans it quick and easy.

On my AIQ, I use Superbands for the upper flipper and post sleeves as they are polyurethane and take the abuse better than the silicone and don't show the dirt as bad, but the flippers can have a different 'feel' with them.

I had a guest DP owner remark that my Sinkt was too difficult to make and come to think of it I was only seeing 2x light up every 50 games or so, and never a 3x. The solution is angling the target so it intrudes into the lane a bit more. You can remove the target and just enlarge the upper screw hole in the bracket. This will give you adjustability. Mine plays much better now. Attached is a pic of just how much
you might need to move it. It was too little to drill a new hole in wood so I later elongated the hole shown and reattached the screw.

I did this with my DP and SNIKT's were very plentiful. To the point where I actually felt like I was cheating, it was so easy to hit. I ended up moving it back as a result.

Also, the ball would catch on the target as it rolled back out of the wolverine lane.

But yes, it definitely feel's much better angled like this.

#9999 2 years ago

You have to get the right balance. If you only get 2x every 50 plays or so something is wrong and the game is much more playable when dialed in. Because mine was a tad off as set from the factory there might be others out there. Mine is now doable but still not easy.
