I just bought a "Big Casino" 1961 Big Casino - It's got problems.

A game will start, but as the title says, there are no playfield lights. I put a circuit breaker in and when you start a game, it pops in about 1/2 a second. How do you go about diagnosing something like that? Someone point me to a good video or document on this subject? I'm not bad with newer electronic pins, but this - this is a completely different animal!

Also, if you're unlucky enough to hit one of the green pop bumpers, the game locks on. The previous owner thought he could fix it by cutting the leads to one of the solenoids. Seems like BOTH green pop bumpers lock on, so I'd be more inclined to think it's either an alternator, or some relay that is sticking.

Finally (or at least All I've found yet) is that when you start a game, the solenoid that lets the balls out of the trough and lets you feed them up to the playfield with the - plunger rod? What do you call that anyway?

I love this game- probably that it'll be a great play, but these older games are SO rare - I've seen 3 in my life, and the one at the APM wasn't available for play. I'd like to have one in my collection that works just for an antique/talking piece.

THey do fire in Tandom. I'll read your posts and apply them as appropriate. I do not have a diagram of any sort- manual or otherwise. My understanding was before 65 or something they didn't even have schematics. And no, just checked, ipdb doesn't have one.

I should have clarified, I'm not a complete newbie to Pinball- I have maybe 20 of them. So I'm familiar with EOS, Coil sleeves, and the like. Just thought I should include that so you wouldn't have to spell out EOS, etc.

Thanks guys. Can't wait to get back tonight and try to solve this little mystery!

Ahh Yes.. The "Gottlieb Manual Syndrome" somehow that slipped my mind.. Should have known better.

The thing is though, if it's like any of the other Gottlieb manuals I've seen they can keep it.

Quoted from rolf_martin_062:

Hi Edog
the op ? Has solved the problem ? Has lost interest ?
). Greetings Rolf

Yes, I am the OP who did lose interest. I got kinda frustrated with the whole hobby. Closed my arcade/showroom, Sold all my games, and took a few years off. I think I know who ended up with Big Casinio, he got several of my games when I quit.

I'm slowly getting back into it now. I found a HUO Silverball Mania. Beautiful game, but the huo guy had NO idea of how to fix a pin. SMH.

Sorry for cutting out on the topic like that. My bad.
