Quoted from jdemarti:

the ship pin extends, holding the ball in place. I have to hit a flipper in order for the pin to recess back into the playfield.

Investigate it. Is the pin not centered in the hole and sticking on the sides of the hole it goes up and down in ? Coil sleeve cracked, dirty, or broken. Spring not doing it's job.

If vibration from a flipper flip drops it, you have a mechanical issue going on.

#2232 4 years ago
Quoted from jamex:

how can I solve it?

Be sure it is hitting the ball good. Both blades. Not a glancing blow. It might need adjusting.

In Settings - Coils - Auto Launcher, you can make it weaker or stronger.

#2234 4 years ago
Quoted from jamex:

I have seen that the movement is free without screws

The brackets that hold it are screwed to the playfield.

even the slinghost are weak

I wonder if power into the game is low ?

LTG : )

#2236 4 years ago
Quoted from jamex:

In the menu I set the coil power to hard, do I have to set anything else? It is my first Stern and I don't know how it works

I apologize. I made a mistake. I thought you were working on a Jersey Jack Pinball Pirates.

As you discovered, you can't set coils individually.

The auto launch on the Stern game is kind of riveted together. Be sure it hasn't worked loose. That would lose a lot of power.

Quoted from jamex:

My plunger of auto launcher, is ok?

The solid metal parts look good. The plastic link hooking the plunger to the kicker has some wear.

Yes. You can go through setting but I don't think there is much in there for audio.

As of semi-recently, the compass where you attack port royal is acting up on my machine. It keeps spinning at random times and awarding unearned points

Optos at the top of the ramp are flaky. Clean them. Reseat their connector. The small board the connector goes you, reflow the solder on everything on the board. When you put the connector back on, a dab of hot glue to keep it in place.

The treasure chest lid opens but closes slowly/jerky will check out plunger assembly to lid probably dirty sleeve. But the one i going tackle is the sails on pirate ship they don't got down but in test mode you here a clicking and they wiggle some. have left them in down state because ship will not sink otherwise. Seen some posts about coils issues but more suspect dirt are some sort of binding.

Remove the ship. Clean everything. Grease or oil where needed. Run new wires for the ship sail coils, raise and retract, from coil lugs to connector. They break internally where you can't see them. May pass a continuity check, but when moving problem remains.

Does anyone know how to troubleshoot a stock DMD? I have one that the display is very dim compared to my other older Stern pin (TSPP). I've read it's to do with the voltages, but not sure where to check.

Manual would help. Measure power to the big connector on the DMD.See if any are low.

Or swap it with your other game. Then you'd know DMD or power to it.

Thank you for that too. I have one of the first twelve with the red compass insert on the playfield. I haven't really thought of selling it, but if it gets into that kind of money I might.

Again congratulations on your sale and glad you can be part of her surprise.

#2458 3 years ago
Quoted from woody76:

I am fine with folks making money but ripping someone off is another story.

We don't know the whole story.

The buyer may have kept upping his offer until the guy sold ?

Years ago I had a man wanting to buy my AFM for his wife. I had no interest in selling it at that time. He offered me $5K, then $6 K, he kept going until he hit $15K. I told him no. He left. If he'd been laying hundred dollar bills on the counter, he would have had it at 15K.

I wouldn't want to rip someone off either. But if they make the offer, I wouldn't consider it ripping off then.

It's kind of weird, so I made a custom spacer to have the coin door sit evenly on the surface of the front wooden panel. It's a nit, but it's odd that they would make all of them with the coin door uneven, top to bottom.

It's for taking coins.

Set the playfield at 6 1/2 degrees or higher, the coin chutes are no longer level. And often won't take coins. Recess the coin door on top and then the coin mechs are closer to level and accept coins better.

#3245 1 year ago
Quoted from TheNecromancer:

It's beyond me why Stern would discontinue making parts for these machines.

Manufacturers can't stock parts forever. Companies put profit into making the next game happen.

You have money tied up in stock. And money tied up storing the parts.

Williams had a 13% over run of game specific parts, and when they were gone, that was it. The ramp guys needed to sell 300 to make money, they'd sell 250 and store the rest.

That is a lot of money and storage tied up. That you may eventually sell, or may not.

I know it sucks when you need a ship body for a 16 year old game. Hopefully the mod guys come up with something.

We are fortunate that more is available now than when Williams was in full swing.

#3466 1 year ago
Quoted from chiefbrody:

but was hoping to find that thread about switching the plates around.

I don't recall that. My experience in commercial use is tighten it or replace it.

Not too bad getting the ship out. Ship test up end it, even if you have to help it. Turn game off. A couple connectors. Some machine screws. Drops down and out easily.

When you have it out. A good time to clean and grease any metal on metal moving parts. I'd also replace the wires from the connector to the coils that raise and lower the sails. At some point they'll act up and sails won't lower and the ship will get stuck trying to sink with them up.

I don't think you really need pics. The spinner has a metal rod sticking out of each side. These two rods each go into a hole on the metal frame around it. A tiny drop of oil by the hole should do it.

Back Alley Creations was working on them ?

I'd get epoxy putty and mold in a section and brace it on the back. Paint to match.

Quoted from Viperbsd:

Wonder how you remove the pin it connects to the plunger with ?

Roll pin punch.

Take a block of hardwood. Drill a hole through it. Lay plunger on the wood so the roll pin is over the hole. Drive it out part way with roll pin punch and hammer, just enough to free the broken piece. Then slip in new piece, and using roll pin punch and hammer, knock the roll pin back in.

The reason you drill the hole the whole way though is if the pin comes out, it isn't buried in the wood. It's under it and easy to get.

Can I download the manual online somewhere?

https://www.ipdb.org/files/5163/Stern_2006_Pirates_of_the_Caribbean_Pinball_Service_Game_Manual.pdf

Reseat the connectors for the optos in front of the ship and be sure they are on tight.
