I just joined the club!

Fine, fine. I scored a HUO POTC with only 551 games on it. It was unpacked in a cozy basement, and stayed there until Saturday. It's a later revision too, board version "H" as opposed to "G" (with that nasty factory hack?).
So we're happy at my house.
What a fun game...

Quoted from Koos:

Nasty factory hack??

Yes, look at the blue wiring on this picture. That's a REV G board.

Also, yes I know you can reset the audits.

I got the game from an older couple. I can tell from the playfield that it's low play. It's like a new game.

Quick Question: What type of bulbs are used for the playfield inserts?

Typical #555 wedge all around?

I haven't looked yet. Thanks!

#1618 6 years ago
Quoted from michi:

It's all #555, except for flashers, which are #89.

Thank you Sir!

How does POTC sound with a pinnovators board? (for subwoofer or additional audio amplifier)

#1640 6 years ago
Quoted from potc1334:

I decided to make these using some plastic for the masts and wood dowels and black string to hold the fabric sails.

Pictures?

#1643 6 years ago

Wow! That does look awesome. A video of the collapsing sails would be awesome! (if you have time).
Good job man. I love how you fastened the sails too. Very cool.

#1654 6 years ago

ah I see! The sails are somewhat rigid! It looks awesome. Good job.

PS: I think you guys are ruining your PF with all the blue LEDs. Having the warmth of warm-white lights on the playfield gives it an older, classic looks, like an old map. Which the PF represents... Just my 0.02.

#1663 6 years ago

I just ordered the following from Comet. All in WARM WHITE. I will attempt to convert the G.I. and inserts to these. I'll let you guys know how it turns out.
My goal is to preserve the "old map look" that the warm incandescent bulbs offered. I will report back. Cheers!

Quoted from michi:

Personally, I don't like LEDs for the Tortuga and Key lights.

I can see that. I was going to try and re-use the "condoms" that are already on the lights. This should dim them.

And yes, I agree that the yellow glow of incandescent lights works awesome with the theme. I already wrote that.

We'll see how it turns out. Cheers!

#1670 6 years ago
Quoted from Schwaggs:

I like these much better than the condoms

Thanks for the link.

All my colored incandescent lights (like the ones in the link) are still working.

I thought I'd try Comet green and reds and see what it looks like.

The reds are ok, but the greens might be a little overwhelming...

Looks great.

But I would not use green lights to light it all up. Warm white is where it's at.

Green on green washes out the details. All of it.

Nice job!

Quoted from altan:

I'm wondering if there was any differences between the first and 2nd run?

Early runs have a factory "board hack" close to the CPU. A tiny blue wire that "jumps" some connectors/prongs on one of the chips.

I think I posted a picture earlier? (I saw this when I was shopping for a POTC, and wondering if this was normal. The one I bought does not have that factory hack).

(EDIT: Attached pic)

Quoted from altan:

Aw, that’s not a hack.

Yes it is a hack, patched after the fact. The original design was flawed, and corrected in the next release of the board. That's a factory hack.

Speaking of ships. First time the ship is hit, it holds the ball until you flip both flippers. Doesn't hold the ball on subsequent ship hits.

Normal? Point?

Mine is huo and like new, with color dmd and tasteful leds. There's no way my machine goes for 10k in my Denver circle, and it looks new. Selling for that price in Denver means I'd have a real sucker, and I ripped him off real good. Come on, we're not talking about plain old price policing here...

Edit: don't tell me the voice in your head didn't say "f'ing A! Score!" when you finished the deal.

I don't recall having any air balls on mine either. Interesting.
