Quoted from maffewl:Excellent advice. I'm not familiar with the test menu in a POTC, is there a quick way to check for errors?
I would check the Dot matrix - there is a test in the menu, so you can spot any inconsistencies or dead 'pixels'.
I had some problems with the opto's, there are a lot of these in the game (ship, chest, commas (2). The attached cable (solder) is not good on the original ones. New ones are not that expensive but it will take some time to install. If you do one, do them all is my advice.
Most of the games the shooter lane is damaged, you can do some retouch. Most of the games have a broken big ramp. The problem is when the ball comes back on the gate and drops into the right lane to the flipper. The gate is mounted on the plastic ramp and that will brake...I have not seen many of pirate machines that not have a broken ramp on that point. Most are repaired with some additional metal parts.
Rest, check the ship, up and down.
Did mine with leds just in the GI, not in the playfield, I like it the way it is, gets you a more old pirate theme. If you would go with led in the playfield, check an OCD controller, seems to work best. Otherwise the leds will seems 'restless'.
For the rest, great machine and go for it....yoho yoho....
