I only did the GI with colored leds. That looks great, IMHO. The playfield I left as is, just planning to paint some of the incandescent bulbs to get some extra color. The mirrors are a must and the shaker too.
I added a red strip of leds under the apron to get a red glow, also did the ship with leds in the cannons, that one is my favorite.

#752 7 years ago
Quoted from simplykind:

I may be in the minority here, but I'm really digging the stock incandescent look. That's coming from someone who's led'd a bunch of machines. I can't seem to bring myself to do it to this one...

I agree that some games should be left with incandescents. For me it is Firepower probably due to the sheer number of quarters I dropped in that sucker in the day and am used to the look. I put white LEDs in my T2 GI and color matched the inserts. It looks great on this title IMO.

#753 7 years ago
Quoted from erak:

I may do it eventually but I don't think it's really adds enough to the game to warrant a shaker.
.

I felt the same but finally got the AFM shaker and it does warrant one. You will be pleased with this upgrade.

I was a bit bored today. And decided to make a couple of mods for my potc.

Just some stone walls in a couple of places.
Just to dress it up a bit at the back.

IMG_20160705_232207583_(resized).jpgIMG_20160705_232207583_(resized).jpg

My plan is to eventually make a small mill wheel at the back by flasher and the vuk habitrail.

I love what you did with the place How did you make these?

Quoted from PeterG:

I used fimo. Just made a brick pattern on it and baked it. It's moldable plastic that hardens when baked.

I might mold a kraken too. Then make a mold of it. But only if the back alley one that might be made doesn't end up happening.

Joined the club this weekend. Seems like it'will be a really fun game. Not as deep as my others but my family loves the movies.

Several observations. Mine has the red plastic strip over the lower light bank, assume it's an earlier production? Mine also has the unused switch slot behind the Kracken, not sure if that's on newer playfields? See photo.

Also, why is that plastic behind the Dead Mans chest on top of the pop bumper cap? Has anyone else wondered about that? I put it under the cap just to see if it would look better that way.

Notice the poster on the wall. Seller threw that in unexpectedly!

Congrats on a great pin.

The plastic is on top so if the ball pops up back there it won't get stuck behind the chest.

And the red plastic is an early production.
My playfield has printed where the slot should be, but it is not cut out.
It was a design change. If it's cut out its early production.

#759 7 years ago

I like the red plastic sword. If you buy a plastic set it is included.
The idea of the plastic under the popbumper is great. I had never any balls up there in many plays.

#760 7 years ago
Quoted from PeterG:

To me it just looks better that way, so I might leave it for a while. I don't know, but to me that plastic laying on top of the pop Bumper cap just looks like an afterthought.

#761 7 years ago

Not a fan of the Backalley mods but if they would do a Kraken...who knows.

#762 7 years ago

Woah...just got my side blades from pingraffix. The very first game with them on, I beat my grand champ score by 150 mil! They must be good luck!

Nice, I just ordered mine, what tips do have? Can Windex be used to help position them?

#764 7 years ago

I used rapid tac...had the bottle left over from doing cabinet decals on my afm. I believe Windex would work, but I would pm pingraffix. The rapid tac allowed me plenty of time to reposition them, and I needed it. I must have moved them a dozen times to get it right and it was no problem. What's your location? If you are local you're welcome to use my bottle and I'd be happy to help.

#765 7 years ago

I can order some at Amazon, is the 4oz bottle enough for both sides? Hoping I can do maybe two machines with 4oz.

One drop of dish soap in a spray bottle.
Will work exactly the same.
Been using it for years to put new artwork on arcade cabs.

Got my back alley mods in the mail yesterday.
I added some barrels and some skulls here and there too.A few more mods and I think pirates modding will be finished.

Super game.

Hey everyone... per several requests I've received from fellow POTC owners, I'm looking into the costs of creating the "ball deflector plastic" I designed/built in post 691. Images of my prototype are in that post and below. Again, the idea behind this piece is to allow the removal of the stock spit-shield that surrounds the ship. As the green targets are the main culprit of causing air balls, this goal of this piece is to keep an air ball from happening at the source.

How many of you would be interested in purchasing one of these for a price of approx. $15?

Again, thanks for all your positive comments!

Awesome, thanks guys. I'll get the ducks in a row and shoot everyone a PM.

I'm not wanting to de-rail the thread, so if you are interested in one and haven't already replied/sent me a PM, please PM me.

Thanks!

#779 7 years ago

Hey everyone. Just an update on the Airball Deflectors. I had a full sheet laser cut today, and was hoping to start mailing the pieces tomorrow. However, there were a few issues that I ran into and will need to buy another sheet, and have it re-cut. As the place that I'm using for laser cutting isn't open on the weekends, it will have to wait until next week (assuming they have another sheet in stock). I apologize for any inconvenience and thank everyone for their interest.

#780 7 years ago

Look what is cut and ready to mail out to some awesome PotC owners...

I'm getting a quote on the cost of shipping, then these will be ready to start sending out. If anyone else is interested, send me a PM.

Hey everyone. I just wanted to send an update that if you were interested in an Airball Deflector, you should have just received a PM from me. If you didn't receive a message, please feel free to PM me. Thanks again!

#782 7 years ago

Just a note to those who send funds for an Airball Deflector over the weekend, you should have received a PM from me that they were mailed out this morning.

If anyone else is interested in one, please feel free to PM me. Thanks!

#783 7 years ago

I just wanted to send a note to those that will be receiving their Airball Deflectors soon. There is a protective film on BOTH sides of the deflector. One side will be a slightly translucent white, and the other side will be clear. Remove both. Once these are removed, it should be nice, shiny, and transparent. Also, these were laser cut, so when you first look at the deflector, it will appear to have burn marks around the edges. No need to worry, these burn marks are only on the protective film and not the deflector itself. Also, similar to normal pinball plastics, do NOT over-tighten the screws when installing the deflector. Below is an image of the 2 screws that hold it in place (the screw at the right side of the Tortuga ramp, and the screw behind Jack the Monkey/near the Liars Dice scoop). I place the deflector on top of the existing PotC plastics. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Thanks again, it's pretty exciting to see others put an idea I created for my own machine to use.

I agree Maffle, you did a great job on this plastic piece. Mine fitted perfect. Glad you posted the pic though because my dumb ass had it on backwards LOL Sooooo much better than the sneeze guard. I can actually see my ship now

#788 7 years ago

Hey everyone, in an effort to not hijack the thread, I've created a new thread in the marketplace for the Airball Deflectors.

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/maffewls-potc-airball-deflector-for-sneezeguard-removal#post-3335126

For those of you who have received one of these, I would very much appreciate if you could post a pic and your thoughts for others to see.

Thanks again for all the kind remarks!

#789 7 years ago

Wow Maffewl! Quickest and most effective mod. So simple and subtle! The crew thanks you, they hated looking at the sneeze guard.
Having a problem uploading the pic. I'll try again tomorrow.

Curious to those that have received/installed the airball deflector, how has it worked out for you now that maybe some of you have had time to play/test? I can only do so much testing with my personal machine and league, but we haven't had an airball since (and have noticed it do its job many times knocking the ball down back to the playfield). I would love to hear how it's worked out for everyone else. This is honestly not a shameless promotion , I really am hoping that everyone has been happy with their purchase.

#794 7 years ago

I will take it from no responses that everyone is loving their deflector so much that there is a great renewed interest in their PotC without that hideous sneezeguard blocking their view, and they are too busy playing them to reply.

On another note, thank you to everyone that purchased a deflector. I have officially sold out of round 1. That said, if anyone would still like one, please send me a message so that I can know if there is enough interest to do another round.

#795 7 years ago

This is my first post here. I bought my POTC about three months ago.

I watched this POTC video:

At 11:30, they start talking about Davy Jones and, at 12:15, they mention "Davy Jones rape, where you can basically play Davy Jones forever."

Anyone know what this strategy is? How is that supposed to work? I've beaten Davy Jones a number of times, but I don't see how you can play that "forever".

Thanks,

Michi.

I had a problem with the ball hitting the canon in the shooter lane so I decided to modify things a bit. Here is the end result with the addition of a led strip that lights up when the auto shoot fires. I have an additional RGB strip that I haven't connected yet.

Since I had some polycarbonate and the Dremel saw out I added a couple of figurines in front of the ship.

Thanks Scottlash. I actually have something weird going on with the red flasher in the canon. Somehow it also flashes when the flipper are activated. I hooked up the +24V to the right slingshot's 20V and the ground to the autokick ground. Not sure what's going on.

Hello everyone,

I got a POTC this afternoon was able to save it from just sitting collecting dust. Needs a good cleaning but it plays well. My wife is a big fan of the movies so this machine was on top of her list. I have to go through it but I noticed the sails on the ship are stuck and hitting the plastic not letting the ship sink all the way. Does anyone have any suggestions on the sails?

Check that the small ship sail solenoid is working with a multi-meter (located vertically at the back of the ship, reddish in color). The wire that wraps around for that coil is very fragile and breaks easily. I had the same issue when I purchased mine, and it was the wire that was broken.
