Hello members,
I have a question regarding the voltages needed to operate the DMD and the sound board in DE machines.
Problem is, I'm not getting the DMD on my TFTC to work properly (shows only parts of the animations) and the sound is choppy/non-present/getting stuck.

I've pretty much checked everything so I can rule out the usual suspects like ribbons cables, cold solder joints, continuity problems, bad PIAs etc.

The only thing that remains is that the PSB doesn't give me -12VDC for the DMD and sound board. Instead, my DMM shows -14VDC and a bit. Could this be the source of my problems??

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Here's a short video to illustrate my problem. As you can see, the DMD displays only partial animations and does so only after I have wiggled on the data cable from the controller board to the DMD a bit and left it on slightly angled. Sounds like a continuity problem at first, but I have even soldered the ribbon cable directly to the controller board to rule that out. To no avail, the DMD didn't even blink.

Also, "No pay'um, no game" is played when pushing the start button - it does that three times, after that no more sound.

Voltages are within specs, data cables have continuity and the MPU is a brand new Rottendog. Also, there are new sound roms and a new display rom in the machine...

I'm really clueless and have read tons of stuff, but no solution in sight.

If anyone has an idea, please stand up

Cheers and thanks for reading,
Danje

Hi Rob,
I know that it's doing what it should. But if you have a look at the video, you can see that the button triggering the sound works exactly 3 times. After that, I don't get any sounds, except for the occasional random loop that usually gets stuck after a few seconds or so. This happens in attract mode, as well as in game play.

Have a look at this video. Sound is all messed up.

Edit: My voltages are all ok.

Not what I wanted to hear, but I guess you're right. Cpu is brand new, cables check out fine. I'm probably looking at a logic issue with the sound board and a faulty DMD. I will order replacement boards...

Thanks, Rob, for your help and all others for reading.
