The previous owner's hidden signature as a means of identification if the pin was ever stolen and recovered?
Must be just someone who felt they needed to put their mark on it then. It takes 2 or 3 tries to get the ball over the hump. Should I try to raise or lower the cover?
I'm not sure that I am getting what you are saying. Are you saying that the signature interferes with gameplay?
Cover sits in 2 holes on pf. Ball with cover off shoots right into the shooting trough. So I feel the coil is kicking well enough to send it through the cover. Cover installed takes 3 efforts to get the ball into position needed to continue game. I have tried a few things and so far noting seems to change anything.
Maybe it's the Williams coils under there. j/k
Manual says the coil should be a 23-800, so the coil you have is a little weaker, but I don't think that's your problem. As far as I know you adjust the switch so the ball is as close to the coil as possible when it fires. It will take some experimenting since the ball speed comes into play, but it sounds like yours is firing too early. Also check to make sure the plunger moves freely and there is no binding.
EDIT: Wait...are we talking about the kickback or the outhole?
Now that you say that the ball has quite some distance between the plunger from the kicker. Firing early until ball comes back to rest square on the plunger may be the problem. It may not be hitting it square enough to send it through there correctly the first few times. I will check that. I will also check the coil.
