D&D - Playfield protectable from Upper Ramp wear?

On my Bally Dungeons & Dragons, the ramp flap that attaches to the ramp drops down on the upper right side (going to the three drop targets ) has created a wear line through the playfield artwork. When I had the playfield last stripped, I had touched up this area, but it seems like it almost immediately rewore down.

I'm not sure if there's a solution here (maybe a cliffy - type protector? ) but I would hope there is something to stop this wearing any further?

i put a piece of mylar on mine.
