Thought I'd ask the experts on this one. Just picked up a Judge Dredd. Really nice condition, inside and out.
Plays great. Deadworld mod works great but ... either immediately on power up or a bit later in a game, the sound will start a VERY loud humming.
This happens until the point that it is so loud it is unplayable. Game sounds will then get buried and you can't hear them ... only this enormous humming. Can't change it via volume control.

I pulled the DCS sound board, checked for continuity from C21 negative to J4 pins 6 & 7 and it checked good
Then I checked C20 positive for same continuity and was also good
So .. thinking now that it is likely a bad or going bad cap, I used my Hakko to de-solder the C20 and C21 caps. Was harder than I thought but got it done

See pics and give me feedback on what I might have done incorrectly in the removal and would need to "fix" when I get the new caps

TWO QUESTIONS:

The 2 new caps are coming in the mail and when they arrive, should I add jumper wires while the board is out?

To where should I run jumper wires?

Thanks all

Bump for the evening crowd - any comments appreciated on how to wire in my new caps!

Quoted from zaza:

If through holes are damaged, this would be an option:

And check diodes D1-D4

Thx and will do

Anyone know the values I should get in each direction on each of these 4 diodes? I got my new caps in and am ready to solder them in but want to make sure these guys are “right” as well. Also ... can they be tested on-the-board?

Team - stitched the board the way Chris recommended and the using the pics from Zaza. Soldered in the new caps I got from Digikey and BINGO!

Got perfect sounds now! Thanks everyone for the info. No way that I could have done it without your advice
