Quoted from PeteB:Made this alt translite today:
Mel Gibson would not approve. HE is the STAR, not Danny Glover.
The Translite is very reminiscent of the early prototype that Mel Gibson
was upset about. All you have to do is add the picture of Mel kissing
the gal from the movie to the far upper right, and you got it made.
Extra Ball is a percentage.... if you are awarded to many, the program shuts the feature off till the percentage gets back in line.
Quoted from MoSeS_1592:Im pretty sure all GI is on a single fuse so I don't believe that is it.
The GI is on four fuses. 5 Amp. Slow-Blow X four. PPB board.
Quoted from Rascal_H:Nex, this post directly above the right pop bumper. It has a hex spacer... holding the gate down. Not sure why because I don’t think anything attaches to this spacer.
Note: factory... to keep the ball from getting stuck....
Quoted from Rascal_H:Just a clear plastic?
Yup. Wedge shape... keeps the ball from getting stuck under the wire ramp and
on top of the MARS = "brights hood cover".
Quoted from cabuford:According to the manual its the lamp ground. Your insert lamps still work?
The lamp GND is using all spare GND traces like the board mountings,
in order to complete a connection.
Quoted from Electronmagic:I'm assuming they all came with them originally but many have been lost over the years?
That part was an option to install it....
Many operators never bothered to use that part...
No time, did not under stand the consequences, did not know what it was.
Or, just did not care. Just like the playfield Mylars.
Quoted from crazypinballguy:Why does the pin feature ZZ Top and C&C Music Factory?
Sony! Bay-be, Sony!
Quoted from PhillyArcade:Is this a common wear part on this table?
Yes!yes!yes!yes!yes!etc,etc,etc,........... Why???
Because Data East used
cheap, cheap, cheap, soft, soft, soft, metal!!!!!!! Ugh! I hate them for doing it.
They really did not want their games to be around.
The old Stern parts from the 1980's are actually better. Go figure.
All Data East outhole kickers are crap!
Quoted from allsportdvd:which are the correct targets for the skill shot bank & the single target near the left outlane?
Transparent yellow/ square/ 3d deep cube (no sunken rivet hole).
Quoted from KingHebes:Anyone know where this clear one goes?
Try the center drop targets. Check the photo-morgue above.
Quoted from madmatt1:Nope..... I see no screw at the top and under the light. I'm a little scared to turn it and break something; but I really want to change the bulb.
I can add pictures if that would help?
Thanks,
MM
OUT
Did somebody epoxy the plastic cover to the top of the back box then?
O.K. That is not factory!!! You have a mod. I think some one glued it to the cabinet.
You can see the small holes for were the OEM cover was attached.
The cover, it might be attached with double sided stick tape.
I would try and use a heat gun and a flat putty knife to see if it can come lose.
I would test in a small hidden area first to see what is going on...
Quoted from CryptKeeperAUS:Chad, in the new update do you think adding a shaker motor to LW3 is possible?
Q26 [ SOL. DRIVE 13 ] is open... so it is possible.
Just need software space.
Quoted from Nelsonford218:So I've been working on this lethal weapon 3. I ordered a flipper rebuild kit from pinball life and the new plunger is an 1/8 inch longer than the ones in it now, making the range of motion shorter. Can anyone confirm if the range of motion on the flipper is correct? Left flipper is rebuilt, right flipper is with the parts that were in it.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
Data East flipper plungers were the same length as Williams flippers plungers from 1990.
If they are using new style plungers that go to the new Stern style flipper assembly,
then the plungers are going to be a different length.
Quoted from Scoot:Does anyone know where I can find this part circled? It's the shooter lane gun piece. I am having no luck finding one.
[quoted image]
OUCH!
More vintage Data East parts that you would never think would be missing.
LW3 have been scrapped...that is a tough call.
#500-5492-00
Maybe one of the Ramp guys could make the form part?
Quoted from bushav:Three display ROM’s? Mine has ROM 0 and ROM 3. Some only have one display ROM. You can see my dip switch positions. Also if your board was 1 rom and now you have two or vice versa there is a resistor that has to be altered. I know Chad describes it on his Pinballcode.com site.
[quoted image]
Note: Data East DMD board was made with the optional use of dip switches to control
country of origin language. The mother CPU would read the dip switch settings as to what
language to install/display. It was never implemented, and would have consumed a lot of
DMD ROM space... Later revision DMD boards had the dip switch feature removed.
I have a question about the upper right eject plastic piece.
Does anybody know what the cutoff billboard said or looked like?
Cheers.
Quoted from AlexRogan84:Was looking at this on my game and don't think I know what you mean by cutoff billboard. Which plastic piece is it you're thinking of? Pic?
It is the plastic piece that is on the right side that covers the eject hole.

Quoted from Da-Shaker:Found free play. Just not sure why I have to open the door before I can start a game
The game has manual or auto score adjustments.
With manual you have to open the door to set new values/reset values.
Quoted from peteyhugs:This is the area I am asking about the 3 flashers 23, 24, 25.
[quoted image]
from pg.29 Q45 trough eject [ 23-840 coil] /// (3) back panel (1) playfield
Playfield = left bright flasher next to single stand up target. Item 2R pg.28
I assume all are #89 lamps. wire color black-red.
Note: check continuity from PPB board. Bad diode...etc.
Quoted from peteyhugs:Any idea which diode?
1st, are the lamps good?
2nd, Orange wire is voltage... are other lamps on orange line working?
3rd,
Quoted from peteyhugs:black- red?
Quoted from Julls:Hello,
I was hoping that someone could help. My LW3 seems to have lost +32 VDCL PPB J6-1/2/3 to multiple coils and flashers. Brown wire is common and a mix of violet + wires.
Start with the main power supply fuses and check the side bridge rectifiers that are mounted
in the back box.
Quoted from keeganhayes:Are these diodes suitable for the lamps as well?
Yes. I would use 1N4004 for coils and lamps.
Quoted from CryptKeeperAUS:I can't recall offhand if the LW topper was originally an AC or DC motor/supply?
18+volt dc lamp power = D.C. motor.
Quoted from Pin_Fandango:This is the switch I have question about, I want to know if the metal switch protrudes straight up or is it bent.
https://www.pinballlife.com/data-eastsegastern-switch-180-5053-00.html
a quick picture would help please
LW3 ball shooter switch is prone to break.
here is Star Wars switch:
pasted_image (resized).png
Here is a possible replacement:
https://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/500-5498-01
-------------------------------------
I had good success , with using this switch assembly and slightly modifying it:
https://www.pinballlife.com/sternsegadata-east-rollover-switch-assembly-right.html
1) Find the round top switch assembly that fits the footprint holes under the playfield.
1a) Shape the switch assembly for ball-roll & switch closer & kick plunger clearance.
1b) Add right angle bend to switch wire-form so as the switch wire stays and does not
pop out of shooter lane trough slot.
Quoted from Krentz:Question about replacing stand-up targets - I have noticed some games you all have posted here have clear yellow and others have opaque yellow. Does anybody know which color was factory? Mine are pretty busted up and I'm not sure which to order.
LW3 OEM stand-up 3D square targets are transparent yellow.
The four targets on the left side get pounded by the skill shot entrance shot, and are prone
to breakage.
Data East redesigned target switch buildup around the time Rocky and Bullwinkle and friends
came into production. So there are two styles of OEM Data East 3D square targets made.
[ out side of target face and color]
Data East Star Wars was in production with opaque 3D yellow square targets. However, sample
games had leftover transparent 3D yellow targets from LW3.
-----------------
The switch target up grade was adding an additional backing blade to the front "target on stem"
contact blade.
Quoted from Krentz:Are the upgraded ones opaque yellow and the transparent ones are the old version? Or are there "upgraded" transparent ones as well? PBR has both for sale but I can't tell if they are different other than the color
I know PBR makes their repro targets with Gottlieb designed parts.
So it is how PBR makes them the way they want....
Data East/Stern, target-on-stem and other manufacturers make their target design their own.
Parts are slightly different... contact points are at variable heights etc. etc, etc.
--------------------------------------------------------
But here are two pictures of Data East OEM targets... 3D opaque yellow square face, 1992 era,
and later.
Here are the two variations.
IMG_0001[1] (resized).JPG
The one on the left, is the upgraded target with added backing blade.
IMG_0002[1] (resized).JPG
The one on the right, is the OEM target design that
Data East used through the 1980's and early1990's.
IMG_0003[1] (resized).JPG
I hope this helps.
This is one reason why pinball parts get new associated part #.
