Quoted from trueno92:

Question for chad. How do we know if we need the 3.01 rom? Is it only possible to know by trying the v3.00 set first?
Would it be possible to get a wizard mode? Complete all video modes and start multiball after the helicopter scene with Super Lethal Weapon mode enabled and super spinners, and super pops all tied to double jackpot countdown timer?

If you have not upgraded, then just get v3.01. If you already have v.3.00 CPU and everything is fine with your LW1 Saucer Ball Save then there is no need for v3.01 but it doesn’t hurt to upgrade if you want to.

Hello,

Anybody tried it to use a Dirty Harry / Indiana Jones gun assembly in this pinball machine?

#1053 3 months ago

I have some of these plastics available. They are notorious for breaking.
I use a clear sling shot protector disc to avoid future damage.

@ chad, no hope of getting a version of the rom with super stunt mode giving the player multiball? Would there be a way at modifying the current super stunt routine to run longer and have the ramp shots scoring double jackpots until multiball runs out?

This was my first pin. Used to play one in my late teens at the local bowling alley. Been working on her for bout 3 years off and on. Other than some cab paint touch up, she's finally ready to roll! Special thanks to RobertStone0407 for all the powdercoating.

Wow, that lw3 is the most legit homage to lw3 i have ever seen. And i look at a lot of pins!!

What i gotta ask is, WHERE DID YOU GET THE EXPLODING TOILET??? OMG I NEED VIDEO OF THIS GAME IN ACTION!!!

For the leds on the uzi, i took some inspiration from the lastest avengers table and think it turned out pretty good.

I actually made the toilet myself. It's an old dollhouse toilet merged with some anime action figure explosions, and some leds.

So I have a public BETA of the Chad compatible Pin2DMD files up, it does replace Tri-Ball with MultiBall as well.

WOB did some extensive testing and I squashed as much as I could find but there may be bugs, so if you find some LMK!

To get more people excited for this, i have recorded some play with the new ChadH roms so ppl can see the differences in game play with the new refinements.

Need to get my Pin2dmd but it won't stop me from donating to Malenko's fine artistic dot art!!

#1069 3 months ago

Toned down the settings in chads code in some adjustments. Plays a bit more like the lw3 we all know but with a bit more refinement and forgiving ball saves.

Check out the vid in 60fps 1080p!! Happy to take more if anymore is looking for any specific changes!!

Also another burning question maybe its a Sega/Data East thing. I remember when I had my Baywatch when you first turned it on, the hoff said something ( I don't remember what) but whatever he said was cut off. With LW3 when I turn it on, it tries to say back in action or something like that but it only gets out back in ac..... than it just cuts out. Any ideas why this happens?

Hello, I just got LW3. Worked for about 12 games and then all kinds of bad things happened until it shut down all the way. I've now replaced all the PS board capacitors and the chip and the transistor. Power looks pretty good on the DMM to me (definite and admitted amateur/newbie). I've replaced blown fuses. I've now made it back to I get "Back in ac" and then it cuts out when I boot up. Any ideas/recollections on what to check to solve the "back in ac" problem? Thank you in advance!

It’s normal for the voice call to be cut short when booting up.

Perfect! Thanks for the answer. Game now boots up plays fine.... Except I have zero display - and I had a display when all this started 3 weeks ago. I'm getting 5v to the DMD board. Any ideas on what to check next for the display?

Thank you!

I'm getting closer, but I will still take advice PS board CN5 goes to the display board(s). +5 and +12 are good on CN5. But on other CN5 pins:

<pin>2<should be>-98vDC<measured>0.0vdc
<pin>3<should be>-110vDC<measured>-13.3vDC
<pin>4<should be>+68vDC<measured>+13.2vDC

Any advice? Best guesses?

get a pin2dmd or a colordmd

#1081 74 days ago
Quoted from Malenko:

get a pin2dmd or a colordmd

I'm not necessarily opposed to that, but I want to get the Power supply board working first.

#1082 69 days ago

So I've slowly tracked the problem down to what I think is a bad transformer. When I measure CN1 for the Power Supply board, I'm getting 110 vac between pins 7 and 9 and 22 vac between pins 4 and 7. These 2 pins feed the high voltage circuit on the PS board for the display.

A new transformer, P/N 010-5003-00 is listed @ $259.

(1) Is it possible to fix a single coil on the transformer? and .....
(2) I saw mentioned the other displays - Do they come with their own power supply? I think they run about $300 and would be well worth it to me for the color upgrade. I believe I want the "easier to implement" display since I don't have a ton of spare time and no interest in doing a lot of construction.

Inputs? And thank you!

#1083 69 days ago

A pin2dmd can either run off its own power supply or tap 5v or 12v on the pin. I believe ColorDMD can do the same.

#1084 69 days ago

My LW3 is fixed and working now. I want to document here for others:

The original problem was on the low voltage circuit.

Low voltage circuit on PS board: I (probably mistakenly) replaced the power transistor and (probably mistakenly) replaced the voltage regulator chip. I was able to socket the chip while it was out of the board. That didn't fix things, so I bought a Cap kit and replaced 13 electrolytic capacitors. I did see where a capacitor had apparently leaked onto the board. The leak spot was subtle, but there and was largely hidden directly under the faulty capacitor. Installing the 13 capacitors seemed to fix the low voltage side, and everything on the machine worked except the display.

High voltage circuit on PS board: In the course of handling the board while doing low voltage repairs, the fuse clip holding fuse F7 on the high voltage side must've been knocked ever-so-slightly loose. Either the clip was knocked loose or the fuse clip pins had slightly spread and were not making good contact with the fuse. I bent the clip pins in slightly with my hands and gently jostled the clip on the board. Suddenly, voltages appeared on the high voltage output pins. I put the PS board back into LW3 machine and voila! - everything worked.

As a note, pin 7 on CN1 is part of the High Voltage circuit. The way it's depicted on the manual's PS schematic is not clear to this amateur. An EE at my work told me that it originates from the center tap on the transformer and is the AC ground reference point. To be clear, pin 7 is ground and is a part of this circuit.

As an additional note, when measuring the connectivity of the fuse F7, if possible one should measure from the BACK side of the board where the traces are. This also checks that there are good connections from the front of the board, through the board, and onto the back side.

Wife and I had a fun night of LW3 pinball!

When I get time, money, and most-of-all renewed energy, I'd like to enhance the machine like somebody on this forum has.

Thanks for all your inputs!

I received mine from mattsbasementarcade.com. He asked a few questions such as if the game had one or two video chips. Took a photo of the board and he knew what was needed.

#1092 58 days ago

I also got mine from mattsbasementarcade , but I've used Steph at hobbyroms in the past for arcade roms (Like rolling back NBA Jam TE to 2.0 , MKII Tourny Edition, etc)

can't go wrong either way.

Glad to hear that works for you. I wonder if this was a feature that didn't work on earlier ROM sets and then got sorted out later on with one of the more recent ones? I think my code is still the original from 1992. I do have a couple of Rottendog boards in the game though, including the big MPU one.

I don’t think Chad ,mentioned anything is his code update about flashers but you should definitely update to it, especially if your code is super old. The last official code was 2.08. Chad’s fixes a bunch of stuff and makes the game much better. Not sure where to get Roms ordered in Canada though.

Hey, back to this flasher on/off feature business... I have tried again to change this adjustment and the flashers are still going strong. Any chance you might be able to do a couple quick gameplay videos for me of your machine? One with the flashers off and another with them on? The flashers are most noticeable when I play when multiball is lit. Not just after you get it into saucer 2 and start multiball, but the little build-up to it when you're trying to get the ball into saucer 2. The flashers flash with the music and it seems well timed to blind you a little just as you go to shoot the ball into saucer 2.

Would love to see some comparison vids of how this looks on other machines. I'll try and get my own video of this same part of the game and post it here.

...oh, and would my machine being programmed for "multiball" and not "triball" have anything to do with it? I don't know why or where you would select it to say multiball instead of triball. Mine has never said anything other than multiball. My serial number sticker says the game was originally for South America, so maybe that got something changed in the way the game was put together or programmed? Identical like snowflakes these machines are.

Just traded for a Lethal Weapon 3 so I’m in the club.
I’m looking at Matt’s Basement Arcade for Chads updates ROM set and there are two options, how do I know which one to get?
I have Chads code on my Hook and it really makes that game shine, hows the updates code on this game? I’ve played a few games already and it seems pretty good as is.
