Quoted from kba78:

They are the same as the ones underneath the brunt one. The schematic should show you what they are too

And used games dont always come with schematic's. Thanks for your help. I didnt actually realize they we all the same just flipped around at first.

The Kick back coil on my LW3 started smoking a few months ago and I haven't had a chance to look into it until now.

At first inspection the plunger wouldn't budge at all. After taking it apart, it looks like the plastic section of the plunger melted to the inside of the sleeve. I threw the MM on and it measured 1.7ohm. This means it's cooked right?

Anyone ideas what might have caused this?

Now in regards to replacing this thing... My coil says AE-23-800-05 on it. "-05" isn't noted in my manual, and even so, -05 on the Marco site looks completely different...
Can anyone suggest an appropriate coil to replace this?

Thanks!

Can anyone recommend some good replacement targets? Can't find any of the yellow ones around.

I swapped mine out with blue and red ones then put an led board in the back.

Quoted from Atari_Daze:

Anyone know a good source for voltage boards? I'm trying to help a buddy and cannot for the life of me get his 5V line to cooperate.

I've put in new fuse clips, fuses, caps, new LM723, the DB tests with in limits, new 2N6059 which actually tests BELOW the .4 - .6 I expected, tested at around a .38 something if I recall.
Used this as a refrence point:

http://www.pinwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Data_East/Sega#Missing_5VDC

Anything I've obviously missed?

Quoted from vec-tor:

The small caps.

Replaced C5 and C6 and still no 5VDC, it does keep blowing F7, ordered new diode bridge. Could that be the culprit even though it is testing OK?

#607 4 years ago

Few more bits to do but it's coming back together.
I need a 5VDC for the car lights to work.

Replaced bridge diode, still blows F7. To summarize above efforts, every component in the 5V line has been replaced and all traces for 5V have been "toned" out.
Any ideas?

Who works on Data East boards?

Thx

I had this happen once drove me crazy.
Ended being the chip at ic1, can't remember the chip number off the top of my head. Worth a shot though

#610 4 years ago
Quoted from kba78:

Yes, the original one this board was toast, had corrosion under it. Cut it out, soldered in a socket and put in new IC, no effect.

Still very slowly working on this, what purpose does this fuse serve, it just goes directly to ground?

Just bought a Lethal Weapon 3...... going to change all the rubbers. Titian rubbers are on sale.... 20% off.... I'm thinking of going all orange.

Good or Bad idea ???

I know blue looks great but I did that to my Last Action Hero.

Any suggestions are welcomed.

Your mods are spectacular, congratulations. It would be a dream for me to be able to install some of them on my lw3 but I am not able to build them

#626 4 years ago

Hey guys,

In the middle of a restore.... and I have two question.....

A- On LW3 shot.... is there an exit gate (behind the shot)? If so what's the part number.

B- On the main, center ramp, what is the part number to that gate switch(with the arm) and what does that do?

Thanks....

On my LW3 when the ball comes off the drop targets it shoots across the play field and hits the inside of the cabinet. See attached picture. It's starting to chip away at the paint. Does anyone know what the cabinet blue paint code might be or a close match. Is there anything to adjust how the ball comes off the drop targets? A tension adjustment??? Does anyone make a set of pin/game blades for this title?

Thank You In Advance,
Pete

You should have a clear plastic above the targets to prevent air balls.

#635 4 years ago

This is a picture of my friends machine and it has the same plastic as mine, so I am sure this is an original plastic to prevent air balls.

Hi guys. I know of a few people who own LW3s that are missing the gun handle on the cabinet. Is there anyone who reproduces these or 3D prints them?

This is the closest I could find when I was restoring mine. More then likely it will be too bright. You can mix the colors down to make it a little darker, or just repaint the entire wall. I used this color for mine when I restored it and was pretty happy with it, but I did make some tweaks to it. Someone else posted this before on here so I take no credit for it.

Valspar

I am in the process of cleaning and LEDing my LW3. I notice that mine may have been a Japanese re-import. (See Photo) It does not have a topper and I would like to add one. It never had one originally as there is a screen screwed over the access hole on the top. How hard are the toppers to find, aftermarket or original. Would it just plug into the plug at the top of the machine? Thank you in advance for your help.
