I have just started work on a data east time machine, the machine had been sitting for quite a while and would power on but no display and no game play. I was not getting 5v out of the power supply so I replaced it with a spare that was with the game and it now powers on and has limited game play. The sound isn't working, there are faint phrases as you play but no music and no front display. There is some corrosion on the MPU from old leaking batteries and I was thinking about ordering a replacement but I was hoping someone could help me troubleshoot the music and display issue before I ordered a replacement MPU. I found the manual and will start tracing through it this week but it definitely has the feel of a damaged MPU. Thanks in advance.

Battery alkaline must be removed soon. You can reseat all the connections and see if that helps. Post a picture of that area on mpu.

The connectors look like they may need to be changed. I removed and reattached them which had no affect. Looks to be past a baking soda fix. I’m guessing it sat for several years, it supposedly worked when unplugged.

Ya, that’s a lot of corrosion. Get a tooth brush in there ASAP. I would also cut off the connectors CN12 and CN11 and splice in new ones. You can also test those transistors with a multimeter to see if they are still good.
