Hey everyone! Just joined the club today. Bought DE Star Wars off local FB. Got a pretty good deal. Game is in good shape overall. Had a slight hiccup during transport and I think that might have caused the issue in the images here. I just cannot see where that screw is supposed to go. Mine is just floating there above what appears to be a slightly chipped plastic (bummer).

Would someone be willing to post a pic of that area so I can see what it's supposed to look like? I looked all around and felt like an idiot because I'm just not seeing where it's supposed to go.

Thanks for any help!

Prefacing this post by saying that I am very new to pinball maintenance/repair, but I'm hoping to learn. But, due to my current ignorance, it's likely that I'll have to ask clarifying questions about the responses I get to make sure I'm understanding correctly

Recently picked up DE Star Wars. Worked great for a few days, then I started having a sound issue. Sound always starts off fine, then at some point in the game, the music shuts off and it starts giving random callouts. But even the callouts get stuck and repeat. Then at ball end, the music comes back, goes through its end of ball routine just fine, then shuts off again after launching. Gameplay, scoring and the DMD all continue to function correctly throughout.

Did some Googling and based on those results, I tried reseating all the connectors to the sound board. No improvement.

Any thoughts?

Quoted from kba78:

Try reseating the ribbon cable coming from the CPU to the sound board

I did do this also. No change.

Quoted from oradke:

Is it the stock sound board or does it have a Pinsound upgrade? Also, check all fuses and 5v and 12V voltages.

It's the stock sound board. I'll give the voltages a check and report back.

Quoted from vec-tor:

The CPU PIA that controls the SND board could be going bad.

I'm not familiar with the PIA. What is that? And is there a way to check if it's going/gone bad?

Thinking of upgrading my DESW with LEDs. Anyone know if the non-ghosting bulbs from Comet Pinball work well in this game?

Don't think I ever posted the solution to the sound issue I had been having:

Started testing all the fuses. All tested fine. After pushing them all back in, the sound worked again. And has been fine ever since (maybe 3 weeks). Must've been a fuse that just wasn't making good contact.

Anyone have a spare plastic with Bib Fortuna/Gamorrean guard they'd like to sell? That Bounty light broke off today. Looks like the previous owner used some kind of wood glue? Anyway, I'd like to replace it without buying a whole new plastics set if I can.

I've been pretty casually into the hobby for a few years now. Doing the most minor of repairs. Calling my friend for help with anything bigger. But today was my first ever solo soldering job. Had to replace the broken standup target. Figured I might as well do both at the same time. My buddy had given me a brief soldering lesson during our last repair, so I gave it a go. Everything went well. New targets work. And I learned that I can solder and desolder on my own lol

Still relatively minor in the grand scheme of things; but a big step forward for me.

Trying to pull my power supply board. I cannot, for the life of me, get the CN1 connector to come off. Am I missing something? I don't see any release clips that need to be pressed. I've tried applying firm but gentle force with some pliers. Can't get it off. And it's really making me feel stupid haha

Any suggestions? Just need to brute force it? I mean, Marcos sells a rebuild kit, so worst case scenario, I buy a replacement if I break it. But would sure love to avoid that.

Finally got it with pliers. My goodness, that was silly.

Update from the long time audio issue I've been having:

For quite some time, the sound in my game has been super glitchy. Lots of Obi-Wan repeating "may the force be with you" over and over. Or just nothing.

A couple months ago, a friend came over to help troubleshoot. We tested all the fuses and they all checked out. Then after replacing them all and turning the game on, the sound worked. Played through several games with no issues. My friend said it might have just been a loose connection between a fuse and its holder.

Game played fine for a couple months. Then this weekend I had a few friends over for a pinball night. Star Wars got played quite a bit. Couple of stuck balls, but the sound was great. Then, the next morning, the same audio glitch as before came back. I popped all the fuses out and in again, and that worked...for one game. Then it came back.

So today, I pulled the power supply board in order to reflow solder on the backs of all the fuse holders. I did that, and have played through four games now with no issues. Fingers crossed that that was actually the problem.

Quoted from Billc479:

Did the fuses go back tightly in the holders? Are the caps on the fuses corroded/tarnished? Just ideas in case it happens again.

All fuses went back in tightly. No obvious corrosion. But admittedly, I didn't look super closely.
