Just picked up a DE Star Wars...one question, is the death star supposed to rotate the entire time you are playing? Mine seems to rotate sometimes but not always.
thanks
Quoted from vec-tor:The two animation motors are tied to each other...
If R2D2 head stops then the DeathStar model should also stop.
thanks, tested some more and yes both R2D2 and Death Star rotate sometimes but not often and stop randomly
Quoted from gdonovan:Check the relay under playfield, broken solder joints common. As long as the ball is in play it will rotate one way and then the other.
thanks, looking now...anywhere specific that is most common with this issue?
Quoted from gdonovan:Broken solder joints on the relay connector pins
Thanks, checked the relay pins and everything looks good. They will both work for 30 seconds or so, stop, randomly start working again. Bad motor? would that have them both stopping at the same time.
Quoted from gdonovan:Broken solder joints on the relay connector pins
So they looked good but under a magnifying glass there were in fact cracks in the solder joints...heated it up everything is working perfectly now.
thanks for the advice!
Anybody know where I can get those thick yellow targets or a suitable replacement? The guy before me just put in some random stand up targets. A red square, blue circle...looks weird
Another issue, ball sometimes get stuck in the sarlacc pit. The machine recognizes that its in there (Sounds, DMD ect.) but it doesn't shoot out all the time. Ball fires out fine once the ball search starts though.
thanks again, this is my first non new stern pin and there is a bit of a learning curve
Quoted from thechakapakuni:Make sure the coil (VUK) that fires the ball is aligned and screws are tight. If the screws are loose, this will cause the ball to rattle and not make it out. Also could be a weak/bad coil.
I probably worded it wrong in the first post, the ball isn't really stuck the coil just doesn't fire sometimes...when the coil fires it comes flying out of there. Sometimes it just doesn't fire until the ball search and then it comes flying out. Possibly a switch error? the machine does recognize its in there when it first goes in.
Thanks though, tightened everything down...will keep poking around
Quoted from thechakapakuni:Ok, then the switch is bad. Try running the test and exercise it or replace it
thanks I will try that. Just seemed odd the switch knows the ball goes in there (Sarlacc or Jabba on the dmd ect.) but then forgets to fire the coil to shoot it back out.
My first restoration so I am a bit of a newb here. NIB Sterns have spoiled me but when it works this game is really great
One issue left and I am 100% operational. All the GI lights on the bottom half of the pin don't work. Bulbs are good I have tried them elsewhere and all GI on the top half of the machine is working (all other lights flashers also work) Just the lamps under the slings, under the guide lanes, and a couple others on the sides on the lower half not working. Any ideas on where to look? These must all be tied together.
Thanks again everyone...In a week I have gone from an unplayable machine to almost perfect thanks to you guys!
Added over 3 years ago:UPDATE-Fuse that looked good tested no good...all GI working now!
thanks everyone for the help
