Quoted from JFirenze:

Sorry for all the posts but I just got my table this week and am trying to get it 100%. I have narrowed down the R2 not dancing issue to the coil. Anyone know what coil assembly the R2 unit uses?

#1294 4 years ago

I checked my Star wars manual and the only reference to R2 in the index is that drawing. I did look through the manual for any other references but couldn't find any.

Has anyone thought of installing a shaker motor in a Star Wars DE?

Could it be hooked up to play on:

Quoted from RDReynolds:

Question, I am looking at picking up one of these machines. The one I am looking at is in decent condition, plays 100% as best I can tell, but has a post installed between the flippers...and not in the middle! I am sure it could easily be removed, but realistically what kind of price range would a machine like this warrant you think?

If someone has inserted a post between the flippers you have to worry about any other bodgies that have been done to it.

#1363 4 years ago
Quoted from RDReynolds:

I mean I have 10 years plus experience with pins, have owned a lot and kinda know (and I do mean "kinda" - I'm not an expert) what to look for as I've studied under John Wart Jr and friends for years and years. Just curious the current range for this title in that condition...

Pricing is all subjective anyway; I know it does not help your question.

Very hard to price on an one line descriptor and depends how much work you are prepared to do to it.

Quoted from MustangPaul:

That sounds interesting, why don't ya make one so we can check it out. Something that could maybe light up? That panel needs some flair.

#1373 4 years ago

I just ordered a different translite for my Star Wars DE.

Quoted from Billc479:

Hey all -
I just found what I am hoping will be an acceptable topper for the machine. Since many of us have modified the heck out of our machines, I don't see the difference being too big of a deal.
I found a Darth Vader Racers Collector case with 3 racers at Disneyworld. Its heavy plastic, the base is 13.5" wide, 12.5" high, and 2" wide. Attached are pics. The biggest visual difference is the shoulder area.
I plan to keep it whole, and screw it to the top of the machine, utilizing spacers to keep from cracking the plastic. Heck, I'll probably keep the cars in it too.
I'll post a pic of it installed once I get home, but even with Disney's inflated prices, this was only $20 - sure beats the $70+ I've seen advertised for OEM toppers.

Putting holes unnecessary into the machine is something I wouldn't advocate.

Tilttopper is developing a StarWars topper
"I actually do have a design in the works for a DE Star Wars Topper. I plan to release it in the next few months"

In the interim I have purchased "Star Wars 3D Night Light - Darth Vader" available from Target in Australia.

Quoted from jedimastermatt:

I've got my Pinsound remix ready for some testing. Before I go through the trouble of converting everything over to .ogg files for upload, if anyone wants and has time to test the mix - PM me and I'll let a few people kick the tires. It's currently sitting at 1.2gb uncompressed, so it's a big download. Something like 800 files or so.
I've done my best to keep the game from being so "chatty" as by default there were a ton of sounds cueing over the top of each other. Unfortunately, the way the cues happen, it's hard to control. It does have A TON of samples in it though and would like some feedback on how they all work within the game. I've done my best kluge method to add some variety to some of the music tracks, even if that means that some files exist in duplicate (in the case of the pre-multiball cue, I've got 3x as many X-Wings Draw Fire to Into the Trap) to provide a bit more control over hearing a cue and still allow some random differences.
I'm still debating my preferred sequence for basic gameplay music. Currently, the sequence is:
Pre-launch: Rebel Blockade Runner, Into the Trap (build up to main cue), TIE Fighter Attack
Ball in play: Main Title and a slightly shorter version of it minus the intro fanfare
Multiball ready (Death Star open): X-Wings Draw Fire (x3) and Into the Trap
Multiball:Imperial March
Jackpot: The Throne Room
End of Ball cash in: End Title
I've also got source audio and music into a reworked multiball DMD animation (surprised myself with how well that came out) and audio for the various Force modes (AT-AT and Jedi Return)
Before releasing it to everyone, I plan on toning down the Ewok chatter and replacing it with more "alien speak" from the films (Mos Eisley, Jabba's palace, Jawas, etc); but, I need to go through each of the 6 channel masters to find them and haven't had the time yet.
BTW - No prequel or sequel cues are present in this mix. Just the original trilogy. So, if you want your Duel of the Fates and Battle of the Heros, this isn't for you. I will admit that The Force Awakens did cause me to come back immediately to my mix and add Burning Homestead into the group of attract mode cues.

Sounds incredible; can't wait to hear the finished product.

All I need now is the restoration to be completed and the pinball machine to be delivered.

Quoted from BestShot31:

I recently sold my beloved Star Wars pin, but it's in good hands.
I wanted to show the mod that I made which tries to replicates the death star chase scene from the movie.
Its difficult to show, but there's a white led under the x-wing, which lights up the death star entrance target.

Nice effort

ColorDMD Previews New LED Displays!

Compared to LCD screens, the new LED display features 128x32 discrete LEDs, capable of providing high brightness and contrast and more vivid colors. Using the company's fast FPGA processing, the ColorDMD LED display provides comfortable viewing with low power consumption.

Unlike LCD screens which provide uniform dot size and spacing, the discrete LEDs produce a dot size that varies with brightness, resulting in an effect similar to half-toning. Since the displays use a fixed matrix of LEDs, some popular features like DOTSXL and high-resolution upscaling are not possible with LED panels.

Small form factor LED panel technology is still new and the long-term reliability and quality of the LED panels is not yet known. Current LED panels exhibit some visible ghosting (the unintentional lighting of some LEDs) due to stray capacitance on the panel circuit boards, though we expect this may improve in future generations.

Does this mean Star Wars DE is now an option without modifying the speaker panel?

Just received extremely quickly from Joe (Bestshot31) via airmail a fantastic set of target stickers, many thanks mate!
Been wondering if the cushioned xwing sticker may in fact cover the cracked target I was referring to. But these are so good I think I should just get the replacement targets first and then cover with the sticker.

Can you provide a link to the target stickers?

My business partner has bought this game and put it at our work. I find it very one dimensional, just pound the death star and then go for multiball jackpots. Are there any recommended setups for this game that will make it more balanced and interesting?

I'll soon be doing a full restore on mine.
I had always intended on doing a standard blue version but that black one doesn't look too bad.
What do people think is better? http://www.strawpoll.me/12135465 Original blue or black?

Good luck getting the black decals as they have not been available for a couple of years from pinball centre

Any other upgrades on the restoration apart from the sound card and colourdmd?

Quoted from dirtbag66:

So, can anyone let me know which sound file they use on their Pinsound board? Or can I just download one, try it out, then swap it for another and repeat?

Can't go past Jedi Master Matt pinsound file as it is simply the best.

My DE Star Wars is in the last stages of its High End Restoration and that is pinsound profile I will be using.

I have the pinsound and the colorDMD. Mine is LED and I have no problems. Don't the led ones draw less power or am I wrong on that?

The standard option (no modification) replacement DMD is the LED display.

I forget who carries it, but there is a place that carries nearly exact color touch up paint, you can get like 4 oz or something small like that. I would use filler, sand and touch it up long before putting a toilet grommet on it!
