Quoted from Dthwsh:

the pop bumpers sound really chincy, like really cheap. Compared to my Addams that sound solid when a ball hits them.

Addams Family pop bumpers are mounted to direct wood top and bottom.
Data East opted to use classic Stern/Wico supplied components, witch is a modular system.
I have had to adjust the yokes and ring-n-rod assembly to get any good action to the
modular system.

Quoted from Dthwsh:

One of the caps has a standard top on it and it has a tighter feel. Maybe I'll swap them out and see how it is....

The rumor is, red caps are louder than the white ones. Which may be the reason they switched. Again not sure this is fact just read it somewhere like the internet, which means it must be true right?

Todd Tuckey said the clear ones were released as a fix for noise.

I think if mine didn't sound clunky I would wonder if something was broken. Respect the clunk!

I believe the suppler ran out of the transparent red plastic for the injection mold....
So clear plastic was available to keep the production line running.
If you have an early run Star Wars, it should have the transparent red.
Later production is clear.
On a side note, If the cap of the top bumper can hit the hex spacer...
then the hex spacer hits the metal habit trail ramp it will cause a lot of racket.

#3906 3 years ago

Thanks everyone, While I do "respect the clunk" I'd rather have more pop action.
I'm gonna start with the pop caps and go from there. Maybe I can adjust it a bit.

make sure to check adjustments. On Checkpoint there is an adjustment for coil strength.

in the settings right? You can choose three different coil settings

Broken solder joints on the relay connector pins

So they looked good but under a magnifying glass there were in fact cracks in the solder joints...heated it up everything is working perfectly now.

thanks for the advice!

Anybody know where I can get those thick yellow targets or a suitable replacement? The guy before me just put in some random stand up targets. A red square, blue circle...looks weird

For what it worth, I went with red transparent as there are flashers behind them. I think it looks nice.

Another issue, ball sometimes get stuck in the sarlacc pit. The machine recognizes that its in there (Sounds, DMD ect.) but it doesn't shoot out all the time. Ball fires out fine once the ball search starts though.

thanks again, this is my first non new stern pin and there is a bit of a learning curve

Make sure the coil (VUK) that fires the ball is aligned and screws are tight. If the screws are loose, this will cause the ball to rattle and not make it out. Also could be a weak/bad coil.

I probably worded it wrong in the first post, the ball isn't really stuck the coil just doesn't fire sometimes...when the coil fires it comes flying out of there. Sometimes it just doesn't fire until the ball search and then it comes flying out. Possibly a switch error? the machine does recognize its in there when it first goes in.

Thanks though, tightened everything down...will keep poking around

#3918 3 years ago

Ok, then the switch is bad. Try running the test and exercise it or replace it

#3919 3 years ago

thanks I will try that. Just seemed odd the switch knows the ball goes in there (Sarlacc or Jabba on the dmd ect.) but then forgets to fire the coil to shoot it back out.

My first restoration so I am a bit of a newb here. NIB Sterns have spoiled me but when it works this game is really great

Could be a flaky coil wire that is causing intermittent action.
I would check the solder lugs for any micro fissure with the wire.

Could be a bad diode or bad solder connection for diode, happens all the time.

I was never able to get my NVRAM installed properly and had similar issues so im following this also

Just got one of eBay the other day, batteries out, new chip in and all works good. I had bought the wrong chip, was just like the original one.

Quoted from Seth1977:

I have 2 R2 kits boxed up and ready to ship. Anyone interested PM me. 100.00 shipped in US only. I won’t be making anymore. I will also be uploading the files and post a link. The kit comes with legs, body, dome, screws, lights ect. You just need to finish like a model. Modify mounting brackets and install stock lighting if you want
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Guys, don’t miss a chance on this R2 replacement. Seth is a real pro and packaged the parts with care. This is amazing. Here’s mine all painted up.

Has anyone ever sent their original R2-D2 head off to be re chromed? I got a price to get it done but worried that it will be destroyed in the process cause of how old it is.

I had ordered a new one but had to send it back as it was to small to fit the blue inner.

I used light sandpaper and krylon Chrome. came out amazing. I fixed cracks using a modelers epoxy, sanded smooth

One issue left and I am 100% operational. All the GI lights on the bottom half of the pin don't work. Bulbs are good I have tried them elsewhere and all GI on the top half of the machine is working (all other lights flashers also work) Just the lamps under the slings, under the guide lanes, and a couple others on the sides on the lower half not working. Any ideas on where to look? These must all be tied together.

Thanks again everyone...In a week I have gone from an unplayable machine to almost perfect thanks to you guys!

UPDATE-Fuse that looked good tested no good...all GI working now!

thanks everyone for the help

Anyone thinking of selling or trading?

I’m wanting to trade my JJP Potc LE and DESW is on my list.

#3929 3 years ago

So in working on r2, I twisted a head off one of the four screw heads holding the L brackets that r2mounts on. It had a hex spacer hanging down toward the playfield. I couldn’t retrieve the screw and then lost the spacer. Does anyone happen to know what that part number is or even dimensions? I’m assuming it’s there for a good reason.

Can you post a picture of the area you are talking about?

This is it. That hex spacer hangs down I think to prevent a ball trap. Ignore all the other things wrong with that picture... hahah

The second photo has my workaround in it.

Ok. Separate issue here. Pinsound not working. I post in this thread because I don’t think it’s a pinsound problem. It boots up, decompresses the zip file (forever) and then seems fine. But no game sounds. I rebooted and it makes the New boot up sound from the mix I have. But no other sounds after that. So I’m thinking my desw isn’t sending it the right signals to produce sound? Any ideas?

A rubber on the hanging down hex spacer? Or a different shaft.

I like your alternate translite! Do you have any better pics of it on your game? Where did you get it from?

#3942 3 years ago

I made it myself based on the original Hildebrandt Brothers poster for the movie.

I could do a run of some high resolution, high contrast translites if there is enough interest.

Pahuffman's recommended settings for LED Color DMD on Data East Star Wars:

Contrast: 3
Brightness: 7

This allows for distinct dot separation while retaining bright colors.

If you're on the fence, go for it! You won't regret it.

Anyone looking for a coin door with a bill acceptor?
my coin door has a MARS bill acceptor in it and I would like to put it back to original.
Willing to sell just the acceptor or trade the complete door for one without.
Thanks
