Hi, PACMAN!

Quoted from PACMAN:

This is the scan thats floating around out there that all the repro places are printing. Its either a bad scan or lazy restoration work or both.
[quoted image]

What places? How many users have this file?

Quoted from PACMAN:

Its either a bad scan or lazy restoration work or both.
[quoted image]

Well, about "lazy restoration". Do you think I´m lazy with my restorations? We are advanced fan restorers of arcade and pinball artworks, we belong a very selected group of fans that go far beyond others. I know more and my skills are better that ten years ago, of course!, same as you. I tell all this with respect. You know I respect you so much, but let me tell you did not focused this issue so well.

For people that don´t know me because I a new user in this forum, this is a little sample of my restoration work (there are only 10 pages, but about 1000 screenshots):

https://www.flickr.com/photos/49835782@N03/

It was pitty that your choosen printer do so bad printing work, it hurt, I know it, but you be balanced and recover by yourself. Maybe another problem could be that print machine printed so dark and this work experimented more gonne details. To know your habitual printer is important to do a good work for yourself and for others.

Regards

#2852 5 years ago

David, I wasn’t calling you lazy. You said you got your file from someone else.

You know I love your work, and this isn’t your work, it’s whats being passed around on the net (how you got it).

Quoted from PACMAN:

I sent pix and requested a return through EBay. EBay provided an automatic return label. I printed it out, then mailed it. Then I get this message from Jeff at Classic Arcade.
New message from: classicarcades (20,788YellowShooting Star)
“I would have sent you another translite at my expense and you could keep the defective one but you did not give me a chance. You forced me to send a return label and refund and I did not need the backwards one back and have no choice but to just refund the purchase and pay to return the translite”

WOW you could have kept that one and still have gotten a new one. That would have made a GREAT wall hanger and might have been worth some good money.

#2854 5 years ago

Doubtful, I think he just said that because he was angry and wanted to try to make me feel like an ass. Im sure he had no intention of doing that. So instead of apologizing he acted like a dick.

True. I think he was a dick to sell you one like that in the first place.

Two questions:

1. I ordered the plastic set to replace a number of broken ones. Any idea where these two go? I assume the three round ones are just for fun and don’t actually go on the pinball.

2. Thoughts on the plastics that have items (lights) riveted to them...replace with rivets or is there an easier way?

Check prior posts... Not used...The blue piece is for the middle two targets, (not used)
The clear? again, not used.

Two questions:

Right, the circles are just promo key fobs. As for the other two, I am also flummoxed. I looked all over my machine and didn't notice them.

#2859 5 years ago

Hi all, anyone happen to have a spare back plastic ( the one that mounts to the cabinet above the playfield)? Mine is non-existent.
Thanks
Mike

#2860 5 years ago

Are you talking about the piece that holds the playfield glass or the plastic with the artwork?

I believe this is what you're looking for. I'd measure first, but I'm pretty sure that's the correct size.

#2862 5 years ago

It's actually the one with the artwork.Sorry, I should have been a little more specific

#2863 5 years ago

Also could use death star speaker grills

Oh man, I'm finally in the Star Wars pinball club I just picked it up about a week ago and my family loves it! I'm not a huge pin collector...yet, so far this is only our second pinball machine (the other is Flash Gordon, very different, but love that one too). I've been reading a lot of the forums just to try to catch up on things, mods etc and I have to say that you all are great. I feel like I just want to jump in and start upgrading a few things right away.

Anyway, I'll summarize my machine and have a couple of questions as well.
- it's running 1.06 (just ordered chads 1.07) and just learning about ROMs and things
- it has the LED package throughout
- it plays great, but has a strange humming coming from the left speaker (quite loud sometimes)
- the backglass has no trim or lift and I can't seem to locate anything online, also not sure if the backglass is real or a translite. I don't know the difference and it's just so different from the mirrored style of Flash Gordon that I can't compare them
- the divider between the backglass and the PC modules has no latch, so it just kind of floats/swings freely there in the backbox. I assume there should be some kind of latch on the right to keep it from swinging on it's own? I haven't found anything for that online either.
- I have the Darth topper with it, but am not a huge fan for some reason. No offense to those who are, but I picked up a Darth Vader mask to replace it. I just need to figure out how to attach it up there.
- it also has a broken plastic over the launch assembly (can't find that anywhere either). Also the light under it has been pop riveted to the plastic (I think that's what broke it) and also has a red sleeve over the light itself. Is that normal?
- Pinsound+ board - while it doesn't have this, I find myself looking at this almost on a daily basis. With stock speakers is it worth it and is it easy to install? Maybe that would get rid of the humming?

Thank you to any help at all with these questions and I'll keep reading and watching YouTube videos. I'm soooo happy to be in this club!

Is that the trim for the backglass?

#2867 5 years ago

Thank you. I've looked there and quite a few other places, but none of them say that they work for data east, so I'm not sure what's what to be honest. 1/8 depth, 3/16, 15" trim, 18, 20, 26 etc (pinballlife is pretty vague and macro is out of most everything)

Added over 5 years ago:

I looked again at the link that you sent and actually took the time to plug in the sku this time. Thanks a ton, I think these just might work (I ordered the lift, top and sides already). Appreciate it very much... that'll teach me to be so hasty

#2868 5 years ago

So I finally got the tech to complete my first ever mod. I’ve always wanted the force scoop to glow red when the force award was not lit (dark side shot available). Just seemed appropriate. Here’s a little video:

Thanks to the tech from Rock Custom Pinball, their “Game On” power supply, and some cool relay tricks.

Anyone in the US have a Boba Fett plastic they’d sell me? Used is fine!

Here’s a couple pictures of my latch on the light panel that lights the translite. I’m not sure what that panel is called. I think you don’t want that to move or it will flop forward and ding your translite. Most damage I see on translites is from that contact.

Also, a pic of the plastic frame around my translite.

Thanks! And yes, I definitely want to fix the swinging from that panel. Interesting latch system in that photo, I'll look for something like that from marco and the others. I ordered the trim as well, great visual, thank you again

#2873 5 years ago

Just wanted to update. I purchased that trim and it's a bit too narrow in depth to hold the glass, but it'll work for now for sure. It turns out that I have glass and a translite behind it (so, I'm now researching for a new beautiful translite).

Regarding my humming noise though, I took the speaker box out and it seems like almost everything is missing nuts/screws etc, so no wonder it's humming like crazy. I also have a wire just hanging there and not attached to anything. Adding photos.

DMD shield? Okay, I'll look that up. Sounds like that's why I have a loose wire, among other things. Thank you

#2876 5 years ago

It amazes me what you find missing in a machine. Why would anybody get rid of that piece?

#2877 5 years ago

Yes, people sure do some strange things. It's especially hard for someone like me who has no idea it's even missing

Is this the piece that I need?

and you said that there are 2 ground wires (left and right), I think I only have just the one hanging there

#2879 5 years ago

That is the plastic front cover for the dmd.

#2880 5 years ago

IPDB has a picture of Rocky and Bullwinkle back box that shows the DMD shield.

Wow, that looks so different that it's almost hard to compare! So, it's a metal rectangle piece that goes all the way across from speaker to speaker, between the boards?

#2882 5 years ago

Just happened to have I dug out today for my star wars project. Took some pics with measurements, thought they could help to make one. Can probably get some things metal at home Depot and just make it yourself

Anyone have scans/vector of the Star Wars letter inserts for some insert decal repair?

#2885 5 years ago

Doing a full Bally/Williams flipper conversion after many, many cracked caps. Really liking the results. Cheaper parts for future replacing too!

Looks good. Do you think those LEDs and the light blue caps will wash out that area? I'd love to see pics after you're done.

#2887 5 years ago

Yeah we shall see. There are so many lighting options that I think it will be manageable. I know DESW has both clear and blue pop cap versions, but I e always liked red/orange and have WMS caps to try out in that hue if blue isn’t ideal.

???? OEM is clear & transparent red jump caps.

#2889 5 years ago

I went a little overboard and did red caps, translucent red bodies and red discs, as well as red LEDs with a down firing white, stickers and the AT-AT mod meant for the Stern machine. I think I've posted most of this before. The originals were so loud. I still have all the parts in the coinbox if I ever decide to sell.

Does this mean your pops don’t move the tops like normal desw ones? I always wondered if they could be replaced with more modern ones.

Would be interested in a video of that! I’d consider doing it to my own machine!

They do not. It's a pretty simple change. The original tops attach to the metal part that moves with hex extenders. Replace these with hex nuts, and a Williams style cap mounts right onto the existing body with screws.

Quoted from cabuford:

They are loud, but what parts of pinball aren't? The noise is the only thing my wife complains about having pins in the basement, and even that's pretty rare. Those pops add to the charm of the game IMO. You don't get that anywhere else.

I actually swapped in Williams plunger rings too — the welded ones

I need the blue cabinet paint code. Who’s holdin’? Thanks!

#2896 5 years ago

i am refurbishing my machine and i noticed the woofer speaker is not a woofer but some mid-range speaker which sounds like crap. I have replaced the woofer in my TZ with no problem with this guide :http://www.dziedzic.us/wpc_speaker_replacement.html

however the data east star wars seems to be wired differently, can i just hook the crossover in line with the existing wiring? and do i need to add volume control to the mid range and tweeter speakers like i did with my TZ?

#2897 5 years ago

Data East sound board has three separate speaker amplifiers.
Williams sound board has one, or two. It depends on witch game.
For that time period.

Found this from a previous owner years ago. I had it saved for when I repaint my own cab.

I don’t vouch for its accuracy but here it is regardless
