turned on my star wars today and starts as normal shows the current rom then the dot matrix goes dead, start button blinks and sounds like the ball ejector keeps trying to kick something out but no ball pops out. here is a video:

Can you measure the 5v, 12v and -12v at the top right of the power supply?

i replaced the original board with a rottendog board about 2 years ago. i checked all the test points on the rottendog board and the voltages match up. when i fire up the machine the pia light blinks once then the blanking and 5v lights stay solid. What should i test next?

The game is going in attract mode?

as you can see from the video above, it does nothing after the cpu version, just start light blinks and drain hole kicker keeps firing

I could not view the video, hence the question.

If you have batteries on the CPU board, remove them and try it again.

sorry here is a youtube link. i will change out the batteries when i get home and let you know.

Do not change the batteries, only remove them to see if will clear the RAM and boot up.

Open the back box and reseat all the ribbon cables. Actually reseat all the connectors in the back box. Check for burned or loose connectors.

i did both. i tried removing the batteries and then firing it up and did the same thing. tried replacing the batteries and also fired it up. It did the same thing. I did notice that now the music is playing and the start light is not flashing. still firing the drain kicker repeatedly. I actually got into diagnostic mode and everything works perfectly, i can see the dmd, the outhole stops firing, i went through all the test and everything seems to work perfectly until i return to game mode then the dmd goes black and the outhole keeps firing! I have no idea what to check next. I will try removing and reseating everything. If anyone has any other ideas i would greatly appreciate what to check next!

Testing switches, does the outhole switch check good?

#16 5 years ago

sounds like its searching for a missing ball.

Wow that was it, a ball was hiding on the playfield and apparently if it doesnt detect all three ball in the trough, it wont boot. crazy.

It also turns out that the outhole switch is stuck closed which is why the outhole kicker was repeately firing.

Thanks for the help!

Hah, that explains it. You had 2 separate issues simultaneously!

Switch test would have shown both of these issues. One of the trough switches would have been in a different state than the other 2 trough switches, and the outhole switch would have shown as closed when it should have been open.
