Data East, 1991My Data East Star Trek is blowing my f5 fuse . I have narrowed it down to vuk causing the issue. If I disconnect power to the vuk the fuse does not blow and everything else seems to work fine.I measured the voltage at the purple-yellow wire that powers the vuk I get 72 volts. All other coils seem to have a more normal voltage of 39.If I power up the game with the vuk coil connected it blows the fuse right away.
Coil may be bad and in need of replacing. Does the plunger move freely in the coil? Measure the coil's resistance, shouldn't be under 2 ohms. Driver transistor(s) are probably shorted, as well as the coil diode if it has one.

The coil moves freely I also replaced it with a known good coil. Probably shorted transistor I am getting 72 volts on the purple -yellow wire and it is not attached to the coil. Would the transistor be on the cpu board or the ppb board and how can I check it.

Diode on the coil? Properly wired if so? Purple/yellow wire to cathode(banded side of diode)?
Transistor will probably be on th PPB (TIP36) and the CPU(TIP102). Check the manual for transistor designations.
