Quoted from CryptKeeperAUS:

Has anyone has any ghosting issues with thier machine? I have found data east to be fairly good. Also wondering if anyone has a definitive LED list? Comet doesn't have a Simpsons kit. Cheers.

I have 13 Data East pins with Comet regular LED, no problems ever. NG not required.

Flashers on Laser War are tricky due to warming resistors but that's another story.

I'm in the club, the last DE I was looking to add to my collection.

Since the center plastic is gone, I suspect there will be one of my custom Lexan air ball deflectors and plastic being manufactured like I did for Checkpoint and LW3 in the near future.

Quoted from CryptKeeperAUS:

There a great addition to end the annoying, random glass hit. TFTC is another DE machine I have one on. Will you be selling any? I'm making up a custom one for Simpsons but would be happy to pick one up. [quoted image]

Let me see how this comes out and I'll let you know, my time is usually a wreck so don't tend to do extras.

Work in progress.

I'm fairly pleased, ball deflector and signage all in one.

Some rotation on the sign so it's toward player.

Quoted from CryptKeeperAUS:

Looks great! Great artwork and still lets you appreciate the pop bumpers. If you do a run I'm keen to get one.

Thanks! I may rework the top deflector slightly as I'm considering some alteration to the art.

Odds of making more are slim I'll admit; I have a few hours in making this one and there is some hardware and post changes made so the main deflector had enough height to clear the Lexan during bank target reset. So its not a direct drop in replacement.

Quoted from oconnorclast:

Also would love something like this. I feel like pretty much everyone on this board either has a deflector or desperately covets one
Is this the sort of thing that a 3D printer could churn out, given blueprints and clear plastic?

No and I like to 3d print stuff.

I am toying with the idea of a small programmable router table or cutter so more in the future not out of the realm of possibility.

I use Comet 8SMD flashers, you know when they are going off!

Quoted from Foxxstone_80:

Otherwise is there NVRAM for data east? I haven't looked into it yet.

NVRAM is so easy on a DE a caveman could do it.

Quoted from Foxxstone_80:

Haha, I always liked those commercials back in the day. Yeah, I put NVRAM in my paragon, I just wasn't sure if it was available for data east games, thanks!

I buy so many DE games I actually buy in bulk and keep a few on hand.

Game off, pop ram out, pop chip in (make sure notch right direction!) start up, make your settings in adjustments, shut off and then pull the batteries. Good to go.

I have had one or two fussy about changing the ram and pulling the battery at the same time, no logic to it but there you go.

Still looking for any help on this. If anyone knows or can point me in the right direction to find out anything on error flags please let me know.
[quoted image]

Never seen a data east with that.

I'd check the game eprom.

#245 1 year ago
Quoted from outerorbit:

What would you check specifically on eprom?

Checksum of the data.

Quoted from aamauzy:

I'm in the exact same boat with the "green" VUK after a rebuild using a new Stern coil, new springs, VUK cap. I'll try different alignments today, but mine will NEVER make it around the bend - it only makes it about halfway up the initial straight vertical part. When I initially took the assembly apart, the previous owner had some electrical tape bunched up on the coil stop, lifting the vuk plunger arm up a bit. Not sure if that's a clue or not. I did put a little piece of foam on the rubber bumper to see if that helped - nope.
It did work fine when I picked up the machine a few months ago. It stopped working a few weeks ago and since I was tearing down the cabinet for decals I figured I'd just go ahead and rebuild with the playfield out.

Try cutting a coil or two off VUK spring, it's what I did and works perfect now.

#262 1 year ago
Quoted from aamauzy:

While I'm posting... can anyone tell me what the insert lights on the front of the cabinet near Homer's feet actually indicate? I never see them do anything "different" beyond flashing along with the rest of the playfield lighting. Didn't see a definition in the manual.

One indicates time for playfield cleaning (green), the other (red) is for fault I THINK.

#265 1 year ago
Quoted from aamauzy:

Yeah, I trimmed the larger spring that returns the plunger to its correct position - that's the larger one. Like I said too - it was also a lot of messing with alignment on the coil mounts and on the wireform itself.

Gravity pulls it down regardless so I reduced the tension and it works perfect now.

Quoted from jgadzia:

i just got my backglass restored. looks awesome by the way, but it came back without a backglass lift. Does anyone know the correct part that will fit the original simpsons back glass.

Far as I know, not available unless something changed in the last few months.

Quoted from Eddie:

Working on a clients machine and it is missing the ramp entrance Gate Bracket which seems to be unobtainable.
Question is what does the switch do in gameplay, as the game seems to play fine without the switch being activated by the missing gate?

It does trigger a call out and when you don't make the shot a second call out.

The knocker was removed from my Simpsons by a previous owner, does anyone have one by chance?
