Looks great! Great artwork and still lets you appreciate the pop bumpers. If you do a run I'm keen to get one.

Looks killer! I'd be way in, and my plastics are new!
Nicely done!

Thanks! I may rework the top deflector slightly as I'm considering some alteration to the art.

Odds of making more are slim I'll admit; I have a few hours in making this one and there is some hardware and post changes made so the main deflector had enough height to clear the Lexan during bank target reset. So its not a direct drop in replacement.

No worries. A nice looking one of a kind replacement then! Good to see a Simpsons looking so good.

This looks beautiful! Did you wind up doing more of these? Mine has burn spots so I’d be interested in one. Don’t know why it’s not a purchasable part anywhere. I’m in the US so I’d want to know cost + shipping. Thanks!

Also would love something like this. I feel like pretty much everyone on this board either has a deflector or desperately covets one

Is this the sort of thing that a 3D printer could churn out, given blueprints and clear plastic?

No and I like to 3d print stuff.

I am toying with the idea of a small programmable router table or cutter so more in the future not out of the realm of possibility.

Anyone been able to find the original design drop target decals with 3 different orientations? Can only find the ones as pictured.

I agonized about this for a year, and my targets were blank for a year. Finally at a pinball show I decided "eff it" and picked up the matching decals. Haven't given it a second thought since, and suggest the same.

Anyone have/know where I can find an intact pop bumper bracket in yellow in the USA? All I can find are in Europe or Australia. Marco has blue, and PBL has blue and black. I'll go black, with the intention of going back, if I can't find yellow immediately.

I see there's one "Alvin G" assembly on ebay that has the right bracket, so that's truly worst case. I'd prefer to buy just the bracket though.

Rebuilding the pops on my cabinet and one of my brackets lost two ears when I pulled it off the playfield...

EDIT: FIRST one I saw on ebay was like $80 for a complete assembly. Changed up my search terms and found a near complete NOS assembly for $30 shipped. I'm good with that!

Stupid question, but how many Flashers are under the Mystery Ramp? I think my 4th one is out but I'm not sure cuz the only thing that activates all of them is the timed Millions Ramp Shot, and even then it's hard to see under the ramp plastic

Do y'all install the post between the flippers meant to block STDM shots? If so, what size and thread is that? It's not listed in the manual under playfield parts.

Glancing through the thread, it looks like the majority of owners that restore or refresh one of these cabinets DO install that post.

I use Comet 8SMD flashers, you know when they are going off!

I think all machines came with this post as standard. It's the outlanes on some Data East's that had the hole drilled but no post installed meaning easier drains. It may have been a revenue, return on investment for arcades in the day. Sorry I'm not home for a few weeks to get a measurement.

If anyone has an old tear down pic of this area it would be appreciated. Looking to mount the bracket as per original but not getting the right alignment with existing holes after a clean up.

To me it looks like you almost "lost" a hole during clear. The two holes in red should be your screw holes for the ball guide that covers the VUK by the bear.

When i complete the Top Lanes to light the Letters in MILLIONS, the "N" and "S" are lit together rather than separately, is this something worth troubleshooting?

Lamp socket solder lug/leg shorted together.
Access to back panel board can be tricky.
I think you have to remove upper corner screws...and middle set of screws..
I could be wrong.

In my repair efforts, the biggest issue i have with my machine is as follows:

At the start of a Ball, when it hits any Top Lane, the music changes to Level 2 Multiball and the Machine registers 1 Ball Lock when no balls are actually locked. This is evident by the machine giving me the Lock-A-Ball Timer when i lock only 1 Ball. The only way to fix this during the course of a Game is to start Multiball and drain 1 Ball for the music to return to Level 1. If i don't do that then the issue lasts for the duration of the game.

This issue is sporadic, sometimes happening 20% of the time in 10 Test Games, sometimes more frequently than that

Are some wires/switches crossed somewhere?

Added 19 months ago:

UPDATE: During the issue, i sometimes hear the space-age "Back To Level 1" Sound Effect (without it appearing on the Displays) which should indicate the end of Multiball but it keeps going

Picked up this baby yesterday. It wasn't really on my radar previously, but man I'm glad I bought it! What a fun game! Family loves it! This specific game is in pretty decent shape, playfeild is pretty nice. Only a few areas that are going to need some touchup eventually. The backglass is in great shape, there is just one small spot where the paint wore away, I may try touching it up eventually.

I read through this thread last night to sum up all the tips and ideas from all you guys here. Putting an airball protector over the bowlarama drop targets was a must, I noticed several airballs last night while playing. I made my own airball protector out of lexan today, turned out pretty good. IMG_2022-10-07-09-48-46-573 (resized).jpgIMG_2022-10-07-09-48-46-573 (resized).jpg

Those three drop targets weren't falling all the way down so I rebuilt the drop targets bank today. The previous owner had a set of new drop targets that came with the machine, so I installed those. It's working great now!IMG_2022-10-07-11-19-41-544 (resized).jpgIMG_2022-10-07-11-19-41-544 (resized).jpg

I need to rebuild the VUK under the green ramp, it works but doesn't have enough juice to get the ball into the ramp consistently.

IMG_2022-10-07-05-59-22-457 (resized).jpgIMG_2022-10-07-05-59-22-457 (resized).jpgI need to address this soon, I put new batteries in immediately, board looks fine as far as I can tell. The batteries I took out weren't leaking. Adding a remote battery holder to my shopping list. Otherwise is there NVRAM for data east? I haven't looked into it yet.

All in all I'm pretty happy with this machine! You guys let me know if there is generally anything else I need to address/fix, common issues, ect.

I buy so many DE games I actually buy in bulk and keep a few on hand.

Game off, pop ram out, pop chip in (make sure notch right direction!) start up, make your settings in adjustments, shut off and then pull the batteries. Good to go.

I have had one or two fussy about changing the ram and pulling the battery at the same time, no logic to it but there you go.

What is the consensus on flipper mechs? Looks like mine has 90's Williams/bally mechs, they work ok but need a rebuild. Just wondering if I should stick with this setup or order the appropriate data east flipper mechs? Otherwise, I have some spare 90's Williams/bally baseplates that I can put in to fully "upgrade" to this style of mechs. What do you guys recommend?IMG_2022-10-09-13-18-04-389 (resized).jpgIMG_2022-10-09-13-18-04-389 (resized).jpg

For me,personally, I like keeping everything as close to OEM as possible.
You can do a slight modification to the Williams plunger & link Assy and reinstall the
tapered coned shape compression spring...
If the playfield is thrashed, then do whatever... experiment...

Still looking for any help on this. If anyone knows or can point me in the right direction to find out anything on error flags please let me know.

NVRAM installed, flippers rebuilt with new bats...I went back to the data east mechs.20221021_213808.jpg20221021_213808.jpg
Drop targets all rebuilt. Last thing I'm working on is the Vuks. 20221021_195650.jpg20221021_195650.jpg

The vuk on the right side always shoots the ball up but it doesn't always seem to have enough power to shoot the ball into the ramp. Sometimes the ball falls back down and it takes 2-3 more times for the ball to get shot into the ramp correctly. I rebuilt the VUK with all new parts and it still works the same. I tried adjusting the position of the green ramp so it lines up perfectly but that doesn't seem to make a difference. Anything else I can do to fix this? The VUK on the left side always works consistently.

I have the exact same problem, my VUK is rebuilt also, and the balls coming back down are starting to beat the shit out of the edge of the hole next to Princess Jasmine's head. From what I've read, removing some of the windings from a coil will actually strengthen the coil up to a point, though I haven't tried this myself as I don't know how much wire to remove.

I'm thinking it's a switch issue? I looked at a few online stores and it looks like this vuk switch is no longer produced. Anyone know a good replacement switch to order?

Also, can someone take a picture of this area of the machine so I know what plastic piece is supposed to be here? My other plastics are all decent so I'd rather not order a whole new set just for this piece. Thanks!
