Almost done with this Playboy 35th project game. So much work has been done finding missing parts, rebuilt flippers, cleaned and adjusted switches and connectors, new lights, new rubbers, new balls, new power supply, new ppb board, new display, new game roms, reflowed solder on all old board connectors and lamp boards under playfield, converted from Europe to US power, added nvram, and more.... down to a couple things left.

-missing lamp board for "pinball" lights between back box speakers (board being made for this to be tested in a few weeks)

-8 amp fuse blows for solonoid bridge rectifier in back box after about 10 games are played (probablby time for the upgrade inkognito board on that one)

-terrible sounds: the game plays "playboy" voice at power up correctly but nothing else is correct after that. Everything else is static noises after that in game and in sound test when sounds/voice should be played. I swapped board with my Monday Night Football and issue follows playboy roms, so new sound roms are on the way

The only issue I don't think I have figured out already is the 3 stand up target bank in the middle of the play field. With a hard direct hit, those 3 targets will almost never register a hit. If it's a soft hit with the ball, or just pushing it with my fingers it will register every time. I've gone through switch test mode and they all test good with a hand touch or light ball hit, but they still almost never register a hard hit.

All the switches have been cleaned with rubbing alcohol/q-tip, adjusted for proper spacing and make great wiping motion contact, all diodes are present and I'm pretty sure there isn't supposed to be a capacitor or resistor on those stand ups since there aren't on any of the other stand ups in the game. I know in older games the caps can go bad on stand up switches for the "delay" for a hard fast hit so the game still recognizes the hit, but I don't think this one should have those.

Any suggestions on getting those 3 stand up targets to register ALL hits soft AND hard? I would think if one of those diodes was bad there would be a row/column issue going on, but all other switches work great in game and test mode.

Almost have this Playboy 35th completed. Progress today:

- the sound issue turned out to be that the ribbon cable from the cpu to the sound board had one end connected backwards. Whops! Good thing there is no voltage going through that cable Now the sounds are working perfect. Just gotta double check those ribbon cable connectors with no key.

-fuse blowing issue fixed. I'm pretty sure that the 8 Amp fuse by the bridge rectifier for the solenoid power is supposed to be 8 amp 250volt. I just had a look at the first one that was in there that blew (8 amp 32 v), and the 2nd one that was in there (8 amp 125 volt). Installed an 8 amp 250 volt and there hasn't been a problem since.

Down to 2 remaining issues:

- missing lamp board (in the works already)

- replacing 3 bank of stand up target switches to see if new ones resolve the issue of no hit registering for a direct hit

I have a solid lead on a super super nice example of a PB35. Was never interested in the game, but my recent finishing of my POTO has renewed my liking of Data East games. So hopefully ill be joining the club soon.

Got it! Overall it’s in great shape! As far as mechanically I think all it needs is the right flipper rebuilt.

Will be setting it up tonight and messing with it this weekend.

Looks nice. If I remember correctly, these have different flipper mechs than other pinball machines. No eos switches I think.

Its in great shape over all. Has a few spots on the edges of the cab that got chewed up, but nothing that can be seen easily. Playfield is pretty much perfect.

Didnt realize how hideous that translite actually is until its lit up in the house. Wasted no time in ordering the replacement.

Looks good in the lineup.

Anyone know if maybe in the design period of the playfield that they were planning on adding something under the big mansion plastic and to the right of the top lanes? I noticed on my game that there is a plain circle there that has no purpose. Like maybe there was going to be a switch or a pop up post?
I mean its the perfect spot for a skill shot, maybe that was thought about?

Just curious...

I've often thought the same thing about that spot - like somethings missing because they had to cut the budget last minute. Seems like there should have been a saucer there.

Hello all. Reaching out to the group to see if anyone has good hi res scans of the playfield?

I’m in the process of cleaning up one that I just removed the factory mylar off of. I need to touch up some areas and get it ready for clear coating. Thank you in advance.

#60 3 years ago

I have a set of cabinet decals for a DE Playboy 35th. $150 shipped in the US if anyone can use them.

Getting ready to tear mine down for cleaning, LEDs, and Titan rings. Has anyone changed up the colors on yours? I want to mix it up a little and cant think of which way to go.

Thinking either... Clear Posts/Light blue rubber Or Blue posts/Pink rubber.

Post some pics if you have changed the color scheme on yours.

Finally got around to tearing her apart and giving her a nice spa day

Was dirtier than i thought she was. Came out pretty nice. Although..... Im second guessing using so much pink in the inserts. Ill probably think about changing to something else.

It looks good. I’m partial to the original back screen but that’s just me. It’s a fun machine to modify and I love the light show it presents. Have fun!

Just picked up one a week ago, surprisingly fun game.

I think the obvious answer looking at the playfield blue masking and location of the "GI hole" was the original design had no return back to the top lanes. At the last minute they added/modified the flat ball guide at the top right, removed the elastic to the right of the last return lane and just did not drill the hole.

In the original design the only way through the rollovers was the first plunge or grotto release on multi-ball.

Thank you! I have finished the cabinet and working on other areas now. Just updated the code from 2.2 to 2.4 last night and parts came in this week so I'll be repairing the popper lighting later today and tweaking the laser kick.

Just a heads up- if you are having issues with laser kick (bunny hop) the code changes between 2.2 and 2.4 make a big difference. Between the code update and tweaking the switch working 100% now.

I dont seem to have any noise issues with mine, but where did you get this? In case I need it in the future.

I assembled it, see thread on Data East speaker noise.

Make sure you set the output voltage before plugging in!! Mine was at 21 volts before adjusting down to 12 volts.

Anyone have any scans of the standup and drop target decals? I found them on marco for 40.00 and Planetary for 90.00. And then 10.00-15.00 shipping.

Just seems silly to pay that much for some stickers.

There’s a auction on eBay right now for a full decal set for like 10.00 plus shipping and it has no bids...... just a thought

Was wondering if someone could confirm something for me. When starting a single player game the score display reads 5000 and not double zero. Also when adding other players it will also display other random scores.

Switch is stuck my guess, should be 00 on game start.

Got excited for a second lol Was about to bid on it but then noticed it only has 3 of the ones I need.

All of my Drop targets and my "bunny" standup decals are either severely faded or coming off.

Thats what im thinking but i thought it it was a stuck switch at boot would it not exclude it from the switch inputs?

Depends on whom was writing the software that day, DE was not consistent on their software yet.

I'm thinking you might have ram problem. I fired mine up tonight with software 2.4 and I cant duplicate your problem. Even if I trigger and hold a switch during boot it will still display 00 on game start.

Was able to find a seller on ebay selling just the ones I needed! And for a decent price.

They are great quality. Have a little thickness and cushion to them. Not just cheap stickers.

Best part...they were in my mail box in about 3 days!

PF looks so much better now.
