I have a Rottendog MPU and Pinsound board and have the same problem on my DE Star Wars.

Sometimes I have to turn it on 3 or 4 times before the sound works.

It is a known problem.
I had an issue with not getting sounds every time I started a game on DE Star Wars.
It worked less than 50% of the time.
Switched back to a stock MPU and problem fixed.
Make sure the ribbon cable to the sound board is on the correct way.
