Popped the ROM update into my JP just a few minutes ago. Yay and thanks!
Quoted from TimeBandit:Hehe. I still can't believe I actually have this. I have a pristine cabinet as well. So 2016 will be the year of the CQ Tommy rebuild. I can't wait.
I've got to ask... is that NOS with after market clear, or a touched up playfield with clear?
It looks AWESOME!

NOS cleared by Kruzman.
Restoring a playboy 35th, and looking for a sound board to fill the vacant spot in the back box... Anyone for one lying around that works? 520-5002-01. Thank you
I'm wanting to install slightly weaker flipper coils in my DE Simpsons.
What is the "next size down" flipper coil? The stock coil is 090-5020-30
090-5030-00 is the next lowest flipper coil. BUT I would just add stronger return springs and add a clear plastic above the center targets. Keeps the balls on the playfield.
My Simpsons had tons of air balls and I made the clear plastic for the center targets a little bigger than the plastic by an inch and now no more airballs EVER! Every game with bad airballs off of target banks will benefit from overhanging plastic clear deflectors.
i've owned a lot of DE games. Was loving DE when nobody else really was giving them a chance. But used to hate them back in the early 90's. Felt clunky because of the pops being a completely separate unit, instead of sandwiched in the playfield. Gives them a cheap feel and sound.
The B/W spoons make the pops react very nice.
Currently have
GNR
Torpedo alley
Tommy
Have owned
JP
SW
Time machine
Phantom of the opera
Hook
what the hell is this talk about some pinboard that can do custom music? Never heard of it.
I have a JP that I have had for about 15 years and everything works fine on it. I just got a SW and the DMD has issues (top dots on text characters either do not show or they fade in and out), so I started swapping parts between the JP and SW to see what the problem is (it turns out to be isolated to the DMD display itself). In taking apart the two panels I see that my JP does not have the 2 ground straps (braid covered by clear plastic tubing with star ring connectors soldered on each end) or the metal shield between the DMD and the controller board. Does anyone have any idea where I might be able to get the metal shield?

Some Data East games offer the ability to print out audits if you hook up a printer. I am curious, does ANYONE still do this today?

Good question. I have no need that's for sure.

I need one for a friend as well.

Just after some advice, fixing up a RC, first step a new power cord and on off switch which was missing and seemed to be bypassed. My question is just around what is the best switch and way of wiring in the new switch.
So far I've put through the new power cable but not soldered in the new and out of the old yet and have got 2 switches. If someone could shed some light on the best switch to use that would be awesome.
Switches are;

Chad, do you have any other Data East pins in your future queue? Ahem, Batman or Phantom?
I love data east pins. Have had 3, have 2 currently. One of the first things I do when a DE pin comes to live with me is upgrade the sound. It only costs like $40-$50 ish and makes a HUGE difference in sound quality. I'm helping a buddy do a DE Simpsons later this week which will be the 4th DE upgrade I've done.
Thought I would post links to the ones I've done.

For games with screen-printed grills you do have to use a spacer. I 3d printed the one on Star Wars but have started making CNC ones now, which is tons faster and makes a way better end result.

I currently own 3 Data East Machines-R&B-SW-and Secret Service. My first was a Rocky & Bullwinkle---Brought it home, cleaned it up and haven't stopped playing it.....that is until someone posted an add on Craigslist for a DE Star Wars. Secret Service wasn't on my wish list but with two extremely fun DE games I was hooked and I knew I had to own more. I own several top rated machines including MM Remake and Twilight Zone and I have to admit I'm turning to the Dark Side and purchasing every DE game that falls under my radar. Because there are a lot of haters out there, DE machines have the most bang for the buck!!!! Best kept secret in pinball! Let the other guys spend over 4K on a machine that in my opinion pales in game play to most DE games. I'll keep buying DE machines until I don't have room---Then sell an overpriced Stern/Williams, replace it with an under priced DE and have bundle of cash to boot!
I'm looking to get some plastics for my Royal Rumble. Can anyone help. My orange ones need some love
I have a chance to buy a RoboCop, but have never played it. What kind of game is it? Fun? Challenging? Holds interest?
And about how much do they go for nowadays?

I own one I think it is very fun I have mine setup pretty hard. Very difficult to get the ramp shot on mine. I think they are in the price range of 1000 to 1500 depending on condition. You can't find the ramps but the plastics are available from a place outside the US. if you can get it below 1k and it is in good shape I would buy it.

I did this to my Simpsons over the holidays and I am very pleased with the results. Definitely need the L-pad to balance out the sub. I installed mine next to the main volume control inside the cabinet. Thanks for the idea and posts Curbfeeler!

I've got a display problem on Hook that I could use some help with. I posted about it in the Hook Club thread, but additional DE eyes on the issue can't hurt.

I've heard a number of people complain about the "scream" at the end of every ball on Phantom of the Opera. Being a new owner, I discovered if you just press a flipper button when the ball is lost, the scream gets bypassed. Don't know if everybody knows that, but it was a nice discovery for me.
After about 50 plays, the Organ mechanism is now stuck...the door won't close. It just struggles to close over and over. I'm sure I'm not the first owner to get this problem...can someone advise on corrective action? I'm not much of a motor-mechanism guy. Do I need to buy a new motor for it? Youtube video demo of the problem and pics enclosed... Help!
Not mine, but stumbled across this beautiful wood rail Rocky & Bullwinkle on youtube. Plus a very clever cabinet feature.

I have used the printer connector to tap power for illuminated flipper buttons and other mods... Great power source to avoid going through the cabinet from/to the back box
I'm working on making Tech Charts for all Data East games.
I've started with Laser War and started to work my way up.
When working on my Playboy, I discovered an error in my Playboy Tech Chart.
The center and right pop bumper are reversed in the Tech Chart.
Now I'm working on The Simpsons Tech Chart and I need some help to verify the Special Solenoids.
The manual isn't consistent about naming the pop bumpers and slingshots.
The text says this:
coil 18 right turbo bumper (Q8)
coil 19 center turbo bumper (Q9)
coil 20 left slingshot (Q10)
coil 21 left turbo bumper (Q11)
coil 22 right slingshot (Q12)
coil 23 not used (Q13)
The playfield image next to it tells me this:
coil 17 left turbo bumper (Q8)
coil 18 right turbo bumper (Q9)
coil 19 center turbo bumper (Q10)
coil 20 left slingshot (Q11)
coil 21 right slingshot (Q12)
coil 22 not used (Q13)
Now I suspect the text to be wroung and the image to be right.
Can someone please check and confirm this on a real machine?

I love the light up panels on the side and front. very cool.

We are still looking for a TFTC speaker panel.
Some DE playfields made the like to be made.

I have a DE Simpsons. The rules say to get the jackpot you have to get a 3 ball multiball going and knock down the 3 pin targets. That is supposed to light the jackpot on the ramp. Shoot the ramp to get the jackpot. But when I knock down the 3 pin targets during 3 ball multiball it doesn't light the jackpot. And doesn't do anything special if I hit the ramp after that. I don't see anything in the settings to turn it off. Anyone have any idea why I'm not getting the jackpot?
My DE Playboy came with no boards, and I am finally done buying boards, but I was hoping that someone that owns this pin might be able to take some closeup pics of the boards with the connectors so I have a better idea of where all of the connectors go on the boards? It would be a great help, and I appreciate it if it can be done. Thank you.
I just finished my Torpedo Alley. Being a submariner I knew I'd like the finsihed product but didn't know I'd like it this much. Added the custom parascope topper with a blue GI and two flashers. After two months of love (and money) it ready to play.
