There’s a handful that certainly are underrated. The turds are Checkpoint, BTTF, and Simpsons. Everything else is ok or great.
BUT, they all have very similar or exactly the same rules so keep that in mind.

Chuckle.

Simpsons was actually game of the year and is pretty fun.

The only real stinkers are Hook and BTTF as far as I'm concerned.

For those with a 6 ball trough and interested in an Opto Switch 7, please see this thread;

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/interest-check-data-east-ball-trough-opto-board-/page/6#post-8266965

For those that have Davi's 1-6 opto switch mod, this switch 7 is a MUST have!

Will update with gameplay vidoes in the next few days. You won't believe how fast the balls get on the playfield.

Hook and Simpsons are both infuriatingly awful. But I'm content that someone likes them.
But game of the year? Quite insulting considering Whirlwind and a slew of other way better games came out in 1990. All that tells me is that award means nothing for gameplay. It probably earned very well and was the smartest license of the year but, that game is far from fun to play.

Code update really helps hook for home play. I've always enjoyed it.

I updated mine first thing. Can't really say what put me off about the game. It has some depth, the art is better than most DE, the music was good.

No call outs from Robin Williams maybe? The playfield layout is just ok and is full of mechs.. this one just did not gel for me. The fact the layout was suppose to be for a theme park with roller coaster and repurposed for Hook.. Don't know. Something just irritated me about it.

Speaking of Hook. I just picked up a project I’m trying to piece back together. No clue what happened to it but it was missing the psu, transformer, ppb was floating lose the in the head and the power/switch box floating around. Looks to be a blown varistor in there as well. Think it was from Japan originally.

I have a transformer, I’ll need a psu but I have a few mechs missing. Figure I’d put it out to the group in case had any of the following in their parts stash

DE Slingshot bracket (I think PBL has this actually. Mine had a broken coil stop)

DE VUK assembly/bracket. Mine is missing.

DE Kickback/knocker assembly/bracket.
Missing. I could repurpose the knocker if I have to.

Need a Hook translight (mine is water damaged)

128x16 speaker/dmd panel.
The one I have is metal and sprayed black. And doesn’t have the Hook speaker grilles. Not sure wha the story is with that. The don’t think I’ve seen a metal dmd panel on a DE. It’ll work but I’d like to find an original

Anyway if anyone had any leads that would be awesome. I think that VUK assembly will be a pain to find. Can provide pics of each part if anyone needs a visual.

Thanks

FYI, that is the original speaker panel. Small dmd games had a metal one. Only differences are the cut out size for the dmd. Some has the dmd in the backglass, so the cut out in the metal panel was a different size to accept a backlit plastic.

Check out pics on IMDb and you'll see what I mean

You bought a real project game. Look in the manual for part numbers of the items and do an internet search to find all the pinball suppliers who have your needed parts. Create a Pinside Wanted Ad for the ones you can't find new. You will reach more people with a wanted ad than just a mere post here.

It is what I had to do to rebuild my DE JP. Even had to get a friend to make some new metal parts for inside the T-Rex, as those were not being reproduced.

I would buy an Xpin power supply at this point since it is missing. I normally like the original power supply, but to buy a used one and still put money into it for new connectors and capacitors and possibly High Voltage kit rebuild, I saved my time and went Xpin for my JP.

Oh it definitely is a project. I knew that getting into it haha. I love seeing the before and after and I don’t mind putting in the work. My PoTO was in a very similar state and it cleaned up nice.

I have all the part numbers from the manual and I list of what I need. Ads are posted on Canadian forums. Thought I’d throw it in here to see what I could find from other DE owners.

Thought for sure this had a textured plastic one like the standard size 128x32.

Yeah just checked the gallery on here and IPDB, you’re right looks like it’s flat metal panel. Well that’s good the. Hopefully the the hook grilles were just painted over or flipped around. I might be able to salvage them.

Has anyone figured out a way to get the bonus credit thing to work properly on DE games? Maybe its just the combination of my Phantom of the Opera being set it $0.75 per credit that is messing it up.

I want to offer a bonus credit at $2.00 (1/.75 & 3/2.00) but when I set Ad 42 to '8' it doesn't add the credit until the 9th coin is inserted to equal .75 x 3

I'm wondering if I'll have to go to 5/3.00 just so its an even coin count with the $0.75...

I'm guessing your settings are (or should be)
adj 38-40 to 1
41 to 3
and 42 to 8

That should give a credit at $0.75, $1.5, then the 3rd at $2

I take it that's not working?

Edit: Maybe try adj 42 at 7 and see what happens?

Here's a post talking about an issue with pricing in a later (likely unofficial) rom for Rocky and Bullwinkle, maybe it's the rom version?

Thanks for the reply, Those setting are exactly how I had it with the issue described above. If I set Ad 42 to '7' it gives the bonus credit after just $1.75 is inserted.

I'll check what version I have.

#3115 25 days ago

Looks like I have the 3.2 version roms in my Phantom. I'll have to burn the lower version.

Does anyone have the lower version rom files? IPDB only has the 3.2 version...

There is a 3.1 and 2.9 version available...
I'll send you a pm....

Picked up a Time Machine recently and it's got Rottendog blue LED displays. I prefer the original plasmas. Does anyone have a set they want to sell?

What a sleeper of a game!

I bet you can find someone willing to trade. When I picked up my space shuttle it had blue led displays and I found someone to do a straight trade for a super nice set of original plasma displays.

I am hoping someone will want blue displays in their game. I prefer to stick with the plasmas in this era of game.

I tried the 3.1 roms and the bonus credit still doesnt work.

Im going to call it, its not worth the aggregation for something that the general public doesn’t even know is a thing.
