I know that this is the Data East club, but is there anyone that could help me with a Sega Frankenstein issue?
It does have the same board set as Data East games and this club has way more members
If it is not okay to post this here, please ignore haha

My game only has 1 other real problem left: Frankensteins head does not work.
The head motion board does not get the correct input from the cpu board.
Connector cn3-1, cn3-8 and cn3-9 on the cpu board should give the clock, data and enable signals but they don't.
Thinking the problem might be the 6821 on 11B (closest to the connector) or a component that is an input for it.
I do have an oscilloscope and voltagemeter, but I could really use some guidance from someone as I'm stuck..
I also asked it in a Facebook group but it did not get me further a lot.
The game plays perfect 100%, except for the head.

Has anyone ever found an option to the standard volume control that comes with the Data East games (usually a long knob inside the coin box area)? This is what I have on my Tommy and GnR. Find it to be terrible for volume control and usually not working properly. Thanks for the help!

I used this successfully a couple years ago in a MSF

There is a dedicated Frankenstain club. Kinda hard to be able take measurements without having a game. Is there a transistor that turns on that motor or a relay board to make the head move? If so, have you changed that transistor?

I created a DE Batman club as I've noticed there isn't one and I'd like to use it to collect names for a potential reproduction ramp. Just giving you all a heads up!

Outta curiosity - anyone have the ColorDMD installed in their DE Batman?

Hey everyone, having a brutal time getting a Star Wars up and running. Can anyone tell me which pin on the PPB J5 connection supplies power to the GI under the playfield? I am rebuilding the connectors and it keeps going in and out. But I can't tell which wire it is from the spec sheet. TIA.

I wanna say it's connector 6 on the send and 2 on the return for J5, but someone can correct me if I'm wrong. Playfield GI is carried in and out via the White-Yellow wire. Those IDC pins suck but I wouldn't put it past a loose wire on a lamp socket to make that in and out, just because, you know, if there's a GI problem it's usually the most time consuming and hair pullingly aggravating issue.

Make sure you check your Z connectors. They were causing problems on mine.

Hi All -- for those with a DE Batman -- Does anyone know for sure what the last ROM revisions made for the game were? there seems to be some confusion with the display rom in particular -- is it A1.02 or A1.06?

I've got a CPU Rom of A1.06 and display or A1.02.

Thanks all.

Good call, I reseated all of them and they actually look pretty good compared to the boards. Still nothing and now my coils and flippers are messed up, so a switch is off somewhere. Sucks trying to bring one back to life in this bad of shape....the path continues!

I've been looking into this and stumped...With mame and IPDB images, I'm finding even labelled as 1.06 they show 1.02 on the display at startup. Wondering if 1.06 display rom actually exists or if it just got confused with CPU 1.06. The file hashes of anything called 1.06 match the 1.02 binaries. I went as far as the T3 manual and Stern still showing 1.06 is latest...

Any help would be appreciated.

From a Sega Twister manual the display rom is A1.02 U8 part No. 965-0071-00.

Yeah, I normally stay with the later manuals as misprints / changes occur in the earlier ones that were about the same time as the game in question, but starting to think this one is the other way around

I figured it out, a washer on the ramp mechanism got stuck in the guide where it pivots to lift. Removed the screw, fixed the washer, and retightened, all good now.

DE Star Wars
Rebuilt the connectors on the PSU and the PPB (several were burnt). Still no GI or door lighting (which is why I rebuilt the connectors, they were working at times). But now the coils and switches are going nuts. I go to diagnostic and it goes crazy, says they are all going off at the same time.

I own Robocop. I have played Tommy and Star Wars. Neither one of those two did anything for me;This was at TPF and it is quite possible that were just not set up correctly.

I other day l got to play DE Baywatch. That is a fun pin. Keep it in your mental quiver as you work to build your DE collection.

Anyone have a good scan of the spinner decals for Playboy? Mine is totally missing the spinner.

If no dice, I'll just make up something with the playboy logo or foil tape.

Also, I highly recommend getting the custom Marilyn Monroe translite. It looks 1000% better than the original.

Understandable. Shipping would be silly on just a couple decals.

Too bad you didn’t post this a week earlier, I just tore my playboy apart and cleaned it last week. I installed my new decals then.

Been doing a cabinet overhaul and decal install on a TFtC. Playfield obviously removed for the project. Game played fine prior. Reinstalled playfield and fired it up. I have no controlled lamps (inserts, Etc.) and its blowing the 8A slo blo fuse (blue white) wires above the bridge rectifier. I don't visably find a short. I replaced both bridge rectifiers last night, but the problem continues. These two boards are installed. If I try a 5A circuit breaker on the bridge fuse it pops right off. If I try a 20A circuit breaker, fuse F4 on the Rottendog will blow. Any other directions to troubleshoot?

IF your blowing the fuse immediately, you must have a dead short to ground on that circuit. With the machine off use an ohm meter to check for 0 or very low ohms reading. Look at the schematic for what header connectors use that circuit disconnect them and get a reading on the headers to ground. you will have to follow the problem wire down the playfield and cut/de-solder it at points to narrow it down. Best to look carefully along the way first. Perhaps something conductive fell onto the playfield? Perhaps when you supported the playfield along the way you made something touch that shouldn't..

I bet RYSR is correct, but if that does not resolve your issue, inspect your plugs. I almost blew up my Tommy when putting in a color DMD. It is easy to reverse the two prong power plug on the thing, and that’s what I did. Caught it on my double check after watching an install video by a fellow who did blow up his game by flipping the plug. When I did my cabinet redo I somehow flipped the ribbon cable. Was not catastrophic, but I spent a bit of time trying to figure out why my blinders stopped working. And that’s just on one pin!

You have to use a 5Amp circuit breaker for a fuse location that is 5Amp. Otherwise, you are likely to do some serious damage, if you have not already.

If anyone's on the fence with the new H-LED ColorDMD displays for the 128x16 games - arrived and installed this morning, quite simple with not having to move over the driver board (like on my JP display - which was easy as well, but this one was simply the display rom).

I'd forgotten how impressed I was the first time you see a game start up with Color!

Another great product from ColorDMD.

I grabbed some images off ebay and loaded into Photoshop, perspective corrected and made the red and blue colors uniform. Broke out the automotive spray adhesive and attached them to a new Williams spinner and then covered in Mylar to finish the job.

So I may be making some headway. I did get a dedicated 8A circuit breaker to test with on the fuse location for the bridge rectifier. I have replaced both bridge rectifiers at this point. On the CPU, I have turned the machine on with connectors CN6 & CN7 removed (lamps drive and lamps return), and it still trips the 8A breaker. If I remove connector CN4 which has the blue and white lead going to it, it does not trip the breaker. As soon as I plug in CN4, even with CN6 & CN7 removed, the circuit breaker trips. I dont believe the issue is with something on the playfield since CN6 & CN7 are removed and it still trips. Just not sure what to troubleshoot at this point.

I am totally incorrect on my assumption. I have narrowed down to the blue and white single wire. And tracked down some sort of short in the coin door wiring. Stopping right now. I'll delve into it further.

#2183 3 years ago

Disconnected the Spain coin door coin mech and everything works now. Lots of troubleshooting but finally found.

I set-up my Monday Night Football after being upright in my garage for a year or so. Game started with no issues, booted correctly with coil and switch test. Launched ball, that's when the issue started. Smoked the coil at the VUK at switch 37. Sure it's a board issue, can someone point me in the right direction on what component failed either on the PPS or the power supply board. Once I hear feedback, I'll send the appropriate board out for repair!

Thanks in advance!!

I replaced mine with a 10-turn pot and added an in line 1 watt resistor from the sweep lead (or maybe it was to the outer lug that goes to ground...) to make sure I could bring it all the way down to SILENT. Made the volume control way more manageable.

I've not had an issue with my DE SW, but when my jukebox volume potentiometers get cranky, I shoot it with a squirt of DeOxit. Clears up the issue like a charm.

Big shout out to @mrtantrum for his new product! New apron decals that hide the unsightly light bulbs that stick up through the apron. Similar to his JP T-REX mod, you replace the standard bulbs with flex bulbs and the new decals cover the holes and back light the letters.
With the new apron decals and his new DE logo chrome decal and score cards, my apron looks fantastic!

Playing data East Simpsons last night and the knocker went off when I got the special but then I thought I heard another pop and now I have no bass sounds. The cabinet speaker is working, both backbox speakers are working, the game plays fine but the sound is very high pitched and tinny sounding. I have not had much experience with sound issues so not sure where to start, any guesses as to what I would start looking at as the culprit?

I don’t remember what game it was but a few years ago I had a crackling sound and did the contact cleaner and working it back and forth and it fixed it, didn’t know the pot could cause the bass sounds to do that.
