Wondering if anyone ever had problems with their sound board playing the sounds but no music? I have a playboy 35th and can't seem to get any music out of it...i get most of the sounds, though. And the weird thing is, I have a second board and it does the same thing...sound but no game music. I thought it might be the flat cable that runs to MPU but no luck on that, either.

I had exactly the same issue with my Time Machine.... Checked all voltages, changed the ribbon cable, installed new caps, pulled the sound roms etc. In the end it was a problem on the cpu-board. I got a "new" one on saturday, installed it and my problem was gone.
The old cpu board had some corrosion due to battery leakage that somehow affected the correct communication between cpu and sound board.

Joined the club the other day. Check Point! Not a bad game at all. I am impressed with some of the features such as the playfield hinges and a prop stick bracket under the playfield, the latch for the backbox and other details that I think are cool. I might have to get another one one day!

Cheers

Thank you for both responses to my issue. I installed Rottendog MPU, so I can't imagine it's that. I do think it must be a voltage thing.... What is the easiest way to check the voltage on the sound board? I know my voltage must not be high enough because my flippers are machine gunning, too, which leads me to believe I'm not getting the 9 volts required to hold them in place. It's driving me crazy because the power board is a new Xpin and when I check the voltage at the test points on that board they seem fine.......

#654 7 years ago

I just got my first Data East machine so I don't know if there are any test points on the sound board and I am not getting out of bed to check, but I was messing with the power to mine today and there is a connector with 6 pins on the bottom of the board. Only 4 have wires on them. This has +12 Volts, -12 Volts, ground, and + 5 volts from left to right ). Pins 6, 3, 2, 1. You could test the wires there.

Start a new thread on your game with your problems. There's going to be too much involved in getting your issues worked out in this general thread. It will also make it easier for other people to search and find your final fixes.

I tried that.... No one responded to it. But, now I have some ideas other than mine to go with.... It was either that or lose my mind!!

You need to keep bumping your thread. Also, post the link to your thread here too.

Edit. I see terryb gave you some information and you didn't report back.

Quiet Earp's response is the correct one. I used a multi meter and measured the voltages on the connector. Best advice I can give you is to reseat all of the power connectors to and from your boards.

Very very similar. Rocky is on hold until I get the new CNC'd bottoms that i'm working on replacing for both rocky and tommy. Picked up tommy two week ago.

Woah!!! That's a pile of projects! In the house!?

I have a complete LW3 playfield that I would love to drop in a DE cabinet if anyone has one that they will sell me. Doesn't need to be a LW3 as I would probably do decals. Just needs to be from the dot matrix era. Come on fella's, help me put this thing together. Please let me know what you have

There was a guy on FB selling cabinets in Pittsburgh a while back. He had a Rocky & Bullwinkle for sale that was in pretty good shape.

My son has a secret service and the ball saver pop up bumper fires over and over again when we start it up. Then won't work in game. Can any one help out.

Could be a switch issue, is the switch that activates it stuck shut?

Picked up a WWF Royal Rumble yesterday. Love it so far. Only problem is Attract music is on but never plays. Does anyone else have this issue with their data east games? All the sounds play fine while playing.

#667 7 years ago

Anyone in the club have an extra transformer? The one in my JP is smoked. 010-5003-00

I will look into a stuck switch tonight. Let you guys know.
Thanks for the help

Just picked up my 2nd DE pin - Phantom of the Opera. This was a favorite for me in college. Playfield not the best but overall I think the game will clean up okay once it gets a good cleaning. I also have a DE Simpsons in really good shape. Everything works with only a few wear spots. I do need one speaker cover for it too.

Secret Service has got to be the king of air balls. It has a multitude of places for the ball to get stuck. The biggest PITA is a launch into the heliport. Without making the switches on the ramp the ball just stays in there. After taking it apart a few times I now keep a telescopic magnet in the game room. I do enjoy the game, broke 5,000,000 on the first ball yesterday afternoon.

Was the switch. Thanks for the advice

#674 7 years ago

Good to hear! Mine would just keep popping on my ball trough until it was adjusted.

Thinking about selling my Torpedo Alley, extra fully populated playfield with mint caves, full set of plastics and NOS left cave. $3,000 PM me if you're interested. All or nothing. Not separating.

#676 7 years ago

I've had a few, just Tmnt now.

I just picked up a The Simpsons this last weekend, after being obsessed with it the year it was released. I love the game and the table I picked up is in great shape. One question - are all audits cleared when the batteries are replaced? For example, is there any way to determine total games played with any validity? If this game was built in December 1990, does total games played reflect all games played since that time, or does the concept of changing the battery void that number's accuracy?

#678 7 years ago

I'm pretty sure you lose everything that's stored electronically when you lose battery. I've seen aftermarket counters installed just for that reason.

#679 7 years ago

All audits are cleared if you change the battery - unless you do it while the machine is running. So unfortunately there is no way to tell how much games were played... One of the few points EM machines do better

Count me in with my first DE pin:

20170402_185605 (resized).jpg20170402_185605 (resized).jpg

Fell in love with this at Louisville Expo, and one turned up a couple weeks later for less. A few things to tweak, fix, and change (not a fan of the blue pf LEDs at all) but it should hang around for a while.

Can anyone tell me if a black lockdown bar is proper for this title? Seems like a lot of early DE games had them, and I see Torpedo Alley pics with either black or chrome.... but black just doesn't look right to me on this title.

If anyone is interested in trading a chrome/stainless for my black one, let me know. Otherwise I might try painting it blue or red or something.

Looks like it is supposed to be chrome:

Just finishing up on our Rocky & Bullwinkle plastic set mini kit, ready to be sent off for production next week. Haven't decided on how many we will have made so wondering what the level of interest would be?

Anyone know if there's an R&B club on Pinside?

Thoughts on Hook? Probably getting one this weekend.

I'm in the club with my LW3!

#684 7 years ago

Just picked up this guy. It looks like I will add a R&B right after I get back from PAPA.

I own lah. Would jp be too similar when put side by side?

A full plastic set is usually needed, I know most of my plastics could be replaced.

#689 7 years ago

I'd be interested in the set.

#690 7 years ago

Full plastic set would be better - more uniformity

#691 7 years ago

I am going to do some playfield touchup on a simpsons. Any suggestions on what kind of paint to use?

#693 7 years ago
Quoted from Bendit:

I had both at the same time and they have similar elements, such as the Smart Missile. I don't think they're too similar, but I'd rather have JP over LAH if you're just looking for one 90's Data East game. If you find they're too similar you could always move on from LAH unless that's a keeper for you. Unloading JP wouldn't be too difficult either, in that case.

#694 7 years ago

At the end of the day I would think JP would be an easier sell ( what's not to love? Dinosaurs and pinball).

Am still trying to find a reasonably priced JP for my son.

On a separate note, my wife loves to play DE Batman because it's fun, easy, and not a fast pin.

#695 7 years ago

Thanks for the opinions, guys. I do love my LAH. My wife loves it too. She's a huge fan of JP though (the theme). I might just get it then, since they are not hard to unload.

Speaking of that, what's a good price for a JP is good shape? I see from the pictures that it does need cliffies though...

#696 7 years ago

i would think $2000-$2500 if in great condition. Only my opinion am sure others will chime in.

#697 7 years ago
Quoted from Bendit:

I've seen JP rise in the last couple of years. An average 100% working (no mods) should be around 2400-2600 IMO.

The good news about JP is that if you are patient and handy, you can usually find a deal on one. I've seen a couple out there for 1700-1900.

#698 7 years ago

Thanks guys. The one I am eyeballing (not yet in person), he's asking $400 too much then. Even if in great condish...

#699 7 years ago

Other nice thing re: JP is that CPR just released a playfield plastic set.

I have also seen a couple of JP for below $2k (I would have purchased but didn't have cash at the time).

There's a whole ordeal about the JP CPR plastics. You can find that information over in the JP club thread.
