Hello,

I have a problem with the Slam tilt error when starting up.
Checking the door tilt switch looks OK. When i remove the complete rows connector (CN10), then the error is gone, but then nothing works ofc.
Weird is, the moment i reconnect the CN10, then the Slam Tilt occurs immediatly. Removing the columns connector (CN8) does not change anything. It stil schows Slam Tilt. Connecting only 1 random wire from CN10 also triggers the slam tilt.
Also weird, sometimes it adds creditcs by it self. Looking at the coinswitches seems to be normal, coinswitches are on the same row of the tilt switch. What i do have noticed was, when i was in audit mode, it looks like the start button (to start a game) was continuously pressed. I noticed the audit adjust kept changing without touching the button. Could this buttonswitch trigger the slam tilt error? Another question is, the wires on the CN10 (rows) connector seens all 2 way, like a double wire withe same color markings that maybe comes from some swith ->connector CN10 ->somewhere else (i havn't figured that out). If i look at the swith matrix, i can see what is on the same wire. Maybe, i could test the switches with a Continuity meter between the CN10 and CN8 connector, for example between White-Violet on CN10 and all the Green wires on CN8 to test the swithes. Any other info would be appreciated.

I must say, the CN10 has been replaced due to bad contacts

After entering diagnostics mode (with a lot problems to try) i noticed that in the Active Switch test, it cycles allmost trough all the switches. Like it would state that all switches are closed. If i remove for example a wire from the coinmech, it still states closed.

I am at the end of my knowledge to find the problem.

In the mean time, i have replaced the CN08 connector also.

Connecting only the ROW 7 and ROW 8 (Wht-vio and wht-gry) does not state closed switches.
When i for example connect only ROW 6 (wht-blu) then it states closed switches AND even mention switches where the cable is not connected for.
I must say, the game worked like normal, but would occasionaly enter slam tilt error. Last days, while i was playing, it added credits by itself.
Now i have connected all cables and it cycles trough like allmost closed swicthes.

If i connect pin from COL1 with pin from ROW1 then it shows all Colums closed.
It cycles from 1 to 8 and repeats.

Changing to pin from COL2 with ROW1 does the same, cycles all from 9 to 16

I do hope it is not the MPU board.

hi PinballManiac40,

I will check that way to test. Would i need a diode to test or is it not needed?
Will be for the weekend. I have a D/E Checkpoint to attent to also

Anyway, thanks for the help you would provide in this weird problem.

I have checked active switches on our D/E checkpoint and they only cycle trough the switches where the pinballs rest.
So, why does my active switches show them all??

Quoted from PinballManiac40:

Do the switch test, it was made for troubleshooting problems much easier.

I will do again tomorrow, whit cables removed. I have compared switch test with checkpoint and it does not cycle trough all of them.
The LW3 does cycle trough them all. That is with cables on and not the active switch test. I keep you updated.

Update:

In switch test wit cables disconnected it shows "none" on the display what is normal ofc.
BUT, the moment i touch a pin on connector CN10, it starts to cycle trough switches.
It does this sometimes even all by itself.

So, it must be somewhere on the board i.m.o.

Update:

I have removed one of the diodes from CN10 (black 1N4002) and tested it.
I placed it on a testing machine and it shows it is a capacitor.
Compared with a new 1N4002 it shows Diode.

Could this be the problem and should i replace them all including the glass capacitors next to them?

I have replaced all the diodes, now it is even worse, errors with no cables attached. Or, the diodes are wrong, i used 1N4002 but it says 1N4001 on the originals. So i am not sure that can cause problems between them. Retesting the original diodes stated all ok :/ weird.

Quoted from PinballManiac40:

Nothing wrong with the 1N4002 diodes. You installed them in the correct direction?

Yes i did, but i have ordered a new board to replace this one.
This way i can check what is wrong and try to fix it while i also can play.

If it is fixed, i keep the board for spare because my son have also a Data East Checkpoint.

Quoted from PinballManiac40:

And you are not using the active switch test for this testing, correct?

No, i did not, i first used switch test (before i replaced the diodes), no cables attached. When i touched a pin with my finger on CN10, it immediatly reacted, stating closed switches. With a cable from 1 pin on CN08 to 1 pin on CN10 it reacted and showed all of the same row.
Touching nothing, it suddenly reacted also. Board looks also bit corroded on some places, but testing traces looked OK.

Quoted from PinballManiac40:

As I mentioned before, use the switch test, not the active switch test. It will be a lot easier to understand the problem better.

I did use switch test! It even starts to react without cables. But, i have ordered a spare board. The battery was removed allready ages ago. I will check the board later.

I have replaced the MPU board.
This way i have time to solve the problem on the original board.

Afterall, it was a board problem.
