Hi,
Sins a few days a added a DE JP to my collection. I have a problem with the power supply.
My T-rex is moving left and right but very very slow: You think perhaps ok motor is damaged but if I connect a smal bulb to it, it flashes in the way as the motor is moving. If I connect motor to an another regulated PS it runs just fine.
T-rex up and down is very smooth and ok.

So first thing I thing I did was checking the PS.: Testing +12V & -12V gives me 25VDC.
Testing +12V & GND is 10.93VDC
Testing -12V & GND is -14.07VDC with a AC rimple of 0.312VAC at 100Hz
5VDC is 5.01VDC.

But now if there is something displayed on the DMD and ugly sound (like an old color tv starting up) comes out of the speakers. The more there is on the display the more the sound changes. If I disconnect the 5V on the DMD this is almost gone but still there, but also nothing on the display.
The big capacitor is checked and is ok.

What could this be?

Alex

I don't know about the sound thing but my t - rex was slow left / right because the plate in front of it was to tight. Had to put some spacers in there. Try loosening the screws and see if it gets any better.

Sounds too low. Check CN1 for burnt pins. you should have 10.5VAC or about on F7 and F8. If that is good, then you may be looking at a possible bridge rectifier failure causing 12volts to be low.

Separate of the issue above, you would want to change all the smaller capacitors on the power supply as they tend to leak, especially C2.

Also check all the fuse clips by lightly pressing on the fuses to see if the holder spread apart and break.

More information on voltage problems can be found in section 4.7

With the external PS T-rex is moving good. So this is not the issue.

DB1 gives 25.19VDC at the - & +
CN1 has burned pin 10+11+12 if I measure between pin 10 + 12 there is 10.23VAC 10 + 11 there is 10.23VAC 10+11 20.4VAC
At F1 is 10.1VAC
At F2 is 10.1VAC
At F7 is 0V (GND)
I have a *.MOV file that records the sound you can find it here:

C2 has been replaced by the previous owner.

Thanks in advance!
Alex

Fuse clip checked and they are all ok.

Definitely repin the wired connectors and change the 3x4 male header connector on the power supply and then see where you are at.

Ok il try this. Any idea of the brand/type of connector?

Good question. Seems 2 places have the board connector obsolete. Ouch and I will need more soon myself.

At least you can still find the female connector housing. Use .093" pins

All are Molex connectors.
09-18-5121 as found here:
https://www.greatplainselectronics.com/products.asp?cat=98
These were obsoleted by Molex about two years go (if I remember correctly).
Can also replace these using 03-09-2121 plus 02-09-1134 and 02-09-2134 contacts.

Plug = 03-09-1126 as found here:
https://www.greatplainselectronics.com/products.asp?cat=88

And you want to use 02-09-1104 and 02-09-2103 contacts.
