Correct, the high voltage is too high. Are you using an aftermarket power supply? The Rottendog ones are known to have this problem due to poor design. Good riddance.

Do you still have the board? You could re-sell it and inform the buyer it will only work with a low voltage LED or LCD display since the high voltage circuit is no good. Might be able to get your money back.
