I think when you look at the "Dave Christensen" style artwork that was super popular then you can think why they might be targeting lonely young men.
It is what it is, it produced some distinctive artwork that is memorable to this day.
Far be it for me to defend Dan Rather....but he didn't make that statement. The gent he was interviewing did.
I think Dan Rather's point is still valid--there are lots of similarities between sex and pinball. Maybe some of us are just nymphomaniacs (aka jackpotheads)
Quoted from ccotenj:dunno about pinballers, but i'm pretty convinced that trolls are...
Yeah, I don't know why this guy is still on Pinside with classic threads like "Why is pinball such a white hobby?" and "What is ball freeze?"
Ugh!
Quoted from Captain_Kirk:Far be it for me to defend Dan Rather....but he didn't make that statement. The gent he was interviewing did.
Dan Rather, who is 81 now and still reporting, has always been an exemplary journalist, with much mettle, guts, and fortitude.
Here's an excerpt:
"Here it is, on a coat hook in midtown Manhattan: the Army-issue green shirt, with “CBS NEWS” written in white letters on the ID tag, that Dan Rather wore in 1966 while hunkered down in rice paddies along the Cambodian border. It would be one of the legendary network anchor’s most famous assignments: dispatching dramatic reports on the Vietnam conflict for millions of Americans sitting down to the evening news. In 16mm films you can see him, young and square-jawed, hair thick and black, barking into a microphone and recoiling from machine guns that rat-a-tat-tat behind him."

Not sure what your point is, since my primary goal with the comment was to correct who said what about sexually frustrated pinball players.
Quoted from Mycal:As a pinball player, I don't get sexually frustrated because my balls drain all of the time
Shut her down folks, best quote of the thread.
Quoted from rockotaco1:Are you married? Then you are sexually frustrated. Pinball has nothing to do with it.
bummer.....
Quoted from pins4fun:Dan Rather, who is 81 now and still reporting, has always been an exemplary journalist, with much mettle, guts, and fortitude.."</blockquote
Quoted from Zippee:in both sex and pinball you shoot, score and play with balls
and when you see red, it's special
You also cradle the balls too!!!

Yeah, can't argue with his coverage of Nam; that made his career. But then there was that sticky issue with his story that was based on that fake document about GWB's military service. Some of his staff got fired, Rather had to rescind the story and apologize, and shortly thereafter, left the network. Later, he sued CBS for about $100 mil, and it got tossed at least twice.
Quoted from Gerry:Dan Rather needs a new tupe' or however you spell it
: LOL
H-A-I-R-P-I-E-C-E
I just watched that last night and I don't believe that it was Dan Rather who said it and what the guy did say is sexually frustrated people play pinball a lot, not- people who play pinball are sexually frustrated...its a fine line. We were laughing for awhile after that scene!

That is correct. The fellow interviewed (can't recall the name) gave his opinion that sexually frustrated people played pinball.... "A LOT"

Quoted from Zippee:.is this really true?
When has anything Dan Rather said been true?

Rather was dumped because he allowed the fake document to be used in the story. He didn't know it was fake though and didn't really need it. Everyone already knew the truth and Dubya never denied it. The revelations about the document gave his enemies the ammunition they needed to divert the focus from the truth and instead "shoot the messenger".
3 playboy machines (almost 4), a sexy girl conversion with a porn reel in the playfield, a big dlck conversion
um.... yeah.... pinheads are still pervy
Quoted from MrBally:What's the frequency, Kenneth?
That's what I think every time I hear the name Dan Rather. A great Journalist, he used to be. Then He became a phony Plagiarizer.
you forgot the crazy cab ride, the walking off the set when the tennis match ran long, keep that microphone up, no mr president are you, as homely as a prison matron, standing up to read the news, that was an unchristian thing to do, be dan rather's boss, on and on and on...................
