Has nothing to do with doing more work or paper work. If the crime was a murder for example, then yes the screwdriver would have been taken to a forensic lab for DNA or possibly prints if the the suspect was not known. For vandalism and property theft the Officers fill out a report that describes the approximate date and time incident occurred if known, what was damaged and what was stolen with the victim’s information. This is mostly needed for insurance reasons so the victim can put in a claim. The Officers might patrol the area for several weeks to show a presence and possibly catch the suspect or suspects. That’s time permitting! Keep in mind ......In rural areas one Patrol Officer might patrol a 30 mile radius or more. What folks see on there boob tube or in the movies for the most part is B.S.

What you see on Live PD or Cops , well that’s the real McCoy there..........

    Quoted from ultimategameroom:

Anyone who says defund the police or is anti police quickly change their minds when someone is trying to kick in their door at 2:00 am... 911 HELP me! send an officer ASAP!!!!

Send a social worker over to talk to the MF kicking in the door. But he or she better get there quick before a 12ga goes Ka-Blam and disintegrates the door.

    Quoted from jwilson:

Cameras are a waste of time, unless you like to watch your shit get stolen. Cops don’t give a fuck about you or your stuff no matter how much video you have.

It's not that they don't care, it's that thefts happen all day long and it's impossible for them to investigate them due to lack of manpower. They have to prioritize other serious crimes. But hey, let's defund all police departments across our nation. That should help /s

Have some respect. I hope you never need help from one of them, because you certainly don't deserve it. You also clearly have never walked a mile in their shoes if you honestly believe that. Luckily for you, the job is done for the benefit of all, even those who are ungrateful and ignorant.

I love seeing posts like this and the downvoters. Shows me who the ignorant fools are that I want nothing to do with and would not buy, sell, help or anything from them. Thanks!

And it is. Unless you're believing everything the media tells you.it is very sad for me to think that people don't realize that the VAST majority of law enforcement are good people doing their best in a flawed system, and focus on the very few bad apples because they are sensationalized on TV.

You're wasting your time. He thinks all cops are bastards.

Same old same old they spend endless hours searching for the next post they can be butthurt over and then down vote and report. Just spend some time in any number of threads looking and you'll see the same bs over and over.

That's not entirely true. I got a few videos where someone was about to do something, and left when they saw the cameras. They instead went next door.

I did have my truck broken into one night. The deputy actually watched the video. The kid had covered himself, but the deputy recognized the clothing and had spoke to the kid while he was walking around the neighborhood earlier that night. He later found the kid. Does it matter? my neighbor's car was unlocked, and they stole a loaded Sig 9mm handgun that same night. Keeping a gun out of a juvenile's hands is always a good thing.

Personally, I'm getting too old for all this crap. Like others said, I want to move away from so many people. Wyoming is looking better all the time.

What an ignorant, uneducated thing to say. I have to say, these topics are sure polarizing. I have always enjoyed your sense of humor on here, and clearly you won't care what I think, but I just lost a ton of respect for you for furthering the divide.

Too bad you're one of the few who got to see it. Nothing worse than what others have said here, I think, just too far the other way. The whole thread should have never happened.

Please PM me regarding what you found so ignorant and uneducated. The last part, I imagine. Hyperbole is lost on some. I can quote it all back to you if you want, as it was saved in my mod notice. I really want to know what you found so offensive. (Not so "clearly," eh?)

    Dan,
I'm a retired cop. I worked my whole career beside many fine people and we all did our best in a flawed system to help others. It is offensive to see generalizations saying that cops won't be there if you need them, and that they will rush in to shoot you if you don't fit a demographic. I'm not going to argue about it, because it's exhausting. It just disgusts me to see this talk becoming mainstream and accepted by so many.

yzfguy -- I've lived in 3 different busy towns in NJ and have had very positive experiences with the local police forces. Just recently an officer rang my doorbell and warned me about locking my car door on the driveway. He was going door to door advising all the homes. We went to look at my wife's car and the door was unlocked and I told him everything looked fine. But then he explained to me that petty thieves walk around neighborhoods looking for open doors and stealing whatever cash people leave. They avoid taking anything else because they don't want to be caught with physical evidence. The police force was being pro active and building relationships in the neighborhood.

Unfortunately, whether it's the press, forums or social media, most people are far more vocal when they want to complain about something negative. When all is good we're quiet and I'm guilty of that myself.

    #170 2 years ago

I'm all for our fine men in blue.

A few bad eggs do get a very disproportionate amount of attention, it is true.

And yeah, I'm a big wuss who would never want a job where I faced danger every day, largely thanks to some of the laws they are expected to enforce.

It's just to blame it all on thieves is ignoring the root problem, poverty and the resulting desperation.

And the last part, which was probably what got me modded, was out of line, I'll admit. When a comedian says edgy things on stage, the necessary grain of salt is implied, but that luxury is not afforded to posting, and I'll be more careful here on out.

    #171 2 years ago

It's all good, Dan. I guess I am a little raw about it, and I was just dissapointed to see it here. You obviously have a right to your opinion too based on your experiences. I think I just need to learn to avoid these topics that always end up devolving.

Rich or poor, steeling is still a crime and should be enforced. Curious what was said that got you modded. Feel free to PM me.

    #173 2 years ago

Thanks, yzfguy, hatchet buried. I should have read the room, what did I expect? I don't generally go around poking bears...

And it's not like people frequent pinball message boards in search of enlightenment! So it was a waste of time anyway!

Still, it wouldn't hurt some of us to research the history of policing in America. It ain't pretty.

I agree, if you mean enforced fairly. There’s the rub.

I think the over-the-top part was what yzfguy rather inaccurately paraphrased as

    Quoted from yzfguy:

Enforced fairly in what way? You're either guilty or not, and if you resist arrest and run, bad things may happen. That's on the perp.

It should be. But in today's culture, let's not look at the initial cause of the escalation. Let's only blame law enforcement for the outcome instead of holding everyone accountable for their actions/decisions that led up to the situation.

What is inaccurate about that? It's almost exactly what you posted.
