What's with the rash of games popping up on Dallas Craigslist recently. All fake? Never hear back and of course prices are too good to be true.

I think we're getting attacked by the spammers again looking for some fresh meat. I was tempted to email some of the more legit looking ones, but I'm saving money to buy two phones, tires, thanksgiving, christmas, car inspections, OH YEAH AND I DON'T HAVE ANY SPACE!

All great ideas, and you'll actually be able to buy real products! You know the only games for real are the ones priced way too high.

#4 8 years ago

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the High Speed is legit. Not that either one of us are interested in looking for that. LOL.

My tron is sweet. I need to find a few hours and finish wiring everything up, and then have a throwdown.

TPF and Houston Expo are the only places that you can find a pin at a reasonable price anymore.

Oh, there was that 1200 or 1600 WH2O on CL, but that's a once a year anomaly.

#6 8 years ago

I saw those earlier today. Prices way to low to be legit.

#7 8 years ago

Yeah, you see one and think it's legit, but as they just keep pouring in, you see it's just someone jacking around. Went something like NF $850, Popeye $900, ES $800, NGG $950, Shadow $800, Dr Dude $500, Police Force $700, probably others. Can't wait to get AFM for $1500, they're moving tomorrow and need the cash.

We've driven past your place literally eight times in the last week. I've waved towards your house!

#9 8 years ago

Ya I fell for the ES one, i have not heard back but i am sure i am going to get a S ton of spam next week.

#10 8 years ago

I tried the DW one early this week and my spam folder filled up pretty fast.

I'll soon have the garage a/c mini split working, just in time for cool weather (I procrastinated on this project). So yeah, y'all will have to stop by now that it will be bearable in the "game room."

ooh theres a T2 for 900 now.

bunch of crap i think

Don't forget the BTTF that goes with it for $700. What a deal!

#14 8 years ago

And the X-Files for $900...

Spidey, I'd love to. I can't make any promises until after baseball's done for the fall, but I'll make sure to nudge Josh a few good times.

#15 8 years ago

That stinks - the Popeye really got my hopes up because I want one and it's not a crazy price ($900) based on the Price Check discussion here - good deal, but not suspicious. Oh well. I guess I'll just stop checking CL - the only response I've ever gotten was from Pinsider who had a lower price on here anyway.

#16 8 years ago

Now it's just getting ridiculous. Same MO: game cheap, few details, want it sold tonight. SCAM!

Dunno if you are talking about me or not, but I generally always post a lower price here and on the local facebook. I prefer firm pricing, but for CL people usually expect some haggling and I also feel more comfortable dealing with folks in the pinball community because we speak the same language.

If it was for the Earthshaker? I think it was! No hard feelings, I hadn't joined PS yet! But it reinforces my point: better to just stick to the pinball community directly rather than chase the elusive "steal" on CL.

Hopefully you aren't the one who offered $800, because if so I have a special name for you in my phone's address book. I ended up trading + cash for a coin-op air hockey - and the family is quite happy with it.

Good luck in your search - I'll just give you a bit of unsolicited advice- It is easy to buy pins. Better to wait and buy what you want instead of just buying and assuming you can sell later as its often harder to sell. They'll come, and at the price/condition you want as long as its reasonable. Don't stress on C/L - I've bought a few and sold a few and met some good people. Join the local facebook groups for Austin and the other Texas areas and subscribe to the DFW mailing list as well and you'll find what you want eventually.

One last thing - the steals on craigslist are very very rare, and you better have a notification service, cash on hand, and a fast car if you want them! I've decided not to worry about chasing them.

#20 8 years ago

I appreciate the encouragement: and no, I wasn't the one who offered $800! I know I've missed the boat on pins compared to those who bought 10 years ago, but I think I have my list down to some reasonable pins and some nicer ones. Hopefully someday I'll have them all. Right now, my wish list is (in order of realistic lability to find/afford them!): Popeye, Fishtales, WhiteWater, TZ, Totan. If I ever get more room, I have a list of system 11, too. Right now, just lurking and learning.
