A real early one, before any tech calls start.

I expect a lot of people new to pinball, and also first time new in box buyers. So when the line starts rolling, lots of basic questions.

On the assembly line !

This is getting real. Besides the Dialed In pieces and parts, anybody who has been there, notice anything new ?

LTG : )

#139 6 years ago
Quoted from TheLaw:

When is the line moving with these things already?

Last thursday on Facebook was a picture of the assembly line getting ready. Playfields up above each station to show where everything goes. And racks of parts.

Right now I would imagine they are getting parts in que, readying playfield rotisseries. Checking, double checking, and triple checking everything. Then start them down the line. Slow to begin with as each thing is done and gone over. And hopefully no issues pop up.

I should think within three weeks we'll see games on the line as things get moving.

but this is straight from Lloyd. We can trust Lloyd

Please remember I said they'd be on the line. This doesn't mean ramped up and going down the line at full capacity.

The first production games can go smoothly, or find a part or something that needs changing, which can be a time killer. You hope they find everything in advance, but crap happens. And teaching the line workers. Dialed In is different than the last games, and there may be new workers too.

Does anyone know how many machines are being tested in the wild?

I believe the main one is in Chicago. Others have popped up at shows or distributors, but not for long.

Probably easier than a painted backglass like DI has.

WOZ Forum. Email Jen to get on the forum.

I'm thinking about games on location where first impression gets the quarters. DI isn't going to get those casual players. It will be dismissed as "the game with a cell phone".

You never know. Until it hits the street.

F14 Tomcat - I tested one, 25¢ a game. People oooh'd and awe'd at the clear, blue, red domes, the beauty of the art work. And then went and put their quarter in something else. Didn't get the first quarter out of people.

We shall soon see if Dialed In gets that first money or not.

My opinion, is it will. Casual player or not.

Factory tour. Pick up your DI. Go home, setting it up. And playing it all evening and night ?

3. Left inlane has a metal post with no rubber. I put a post rubber on it and the ball got stuck.

Not all metal posts get a rubber or sleeve. Corvette comes to mind.

1. Balls stick in trough sometimes for a few minutes before getting into shooter lane; I have tried increase the trough power with no change

Try more power, then less power, then this - http://www.pinplay.com/5/adjusting_the_ball_trough_on_woz.html

Quoted from ngg:

3. Now the trapdoor in the left orbit is broken.... getting a message that the switch is malfunctioning

See picture - if it's sticking. Or the axle with the big C clip, lightly grease or oil the moving parts on the other side of that C clip and work the mech up and down a few times so it operates smoothly.

what type of oil or grease do you recommend?

Pretty much anything you have on hand. Wipe off excess so it doesn't get elsewhere.

Quoted from tryton1000:

what type of oil or grease do you recommend?

I made red arrows where to put some. Both sides of pivot point, and a tiny dab where the latch hooks. A little grease or oil, work the mech a few times to get it working smooth on the metal to metal areas. Wipe off excess.

Below the playfield I'm not too fussy what to use.

On top of the playfield. I prefer hobby lubes or oils that are plastic compatible. So if it gets anywhere else, it won't hurt anything.

Why not take photos of the player for the high scores?

Because you'll have somebody quick drop their pants and have a dick picture for high score.

Great idea. Poor in practice. Unless you do it so ops can turn it off.

Midway tried doing this with a video game. Once. Put it on test. Pulled it out almost immediately when the location went ballistic with the obscene pic in it.

End of what could have been a great game. Only one was ever made.

A restart fixes this and all cables seem to be seated properly, not sure what's going on.

The cables from phone to motherboard, please reseat them a couple times. See if that helps.

If not, then please go to JJP and open a ticket on the support desk.

Quoted from VidiotGT:

but is there something I should take a look at related to the power into the upper flipper?

No. Two leaf blade switches on the right flipper button. Push in slowly and first lower one fires the lower flipper and then farther in the second one closes and fires the upper flipper.

The same for any pinball with two switches firing two flippers on one side. Leaf blade switches or opto switches.

Nothing wrong with your game.

You can adjust the leaf blades if you want a little quicker. Or push the button all the way in faster.

Quoted from Pinballpal:

What are all the things I should do to trouble shoot this thanks in advance.

DI flippers - should be strong. I'd start with the basics. Plungers move freely ? Coil stops on tight ? A tiny bit of up and down play on the flipper so the pawl below the playfield isn't binding on the nylon bushing the flipper shaft rides in, too much play and the plunger doesn't move in a straight line.

Then I'd follow wiring. From flipper to backbox. Any connector along the way, reseat and push in tight.

On my game here the purple wire goes to the red arrow. Black wires in the same spot as your picture.

Diode isn't there so black wires and purple can be in either spot.

Under the playfield. See if the allen head set screw holding shaft to motor is loose.

Quoted from gliebig:

They seem pretty tight. Should they be screwed in more?

Run the motor in device test and look and see if the shaft is turning, below the collar the two set screws are on. Grease and oil on it, so you should be able to see if it's spinning and not turning the collar.

I plugged my headphones in for the first time the other day and only got sound from one side. Is there a fix for that?

Open the metal box in the head and turn the connector for it around. It's on backwards.

Quoted from gliebig:

Roger. So it's in the backbox. Hopefully it's labeled. I haven't explored the backbox too much yet.

Pinouts are in the manual. Towards the rear.

Or try the small board right inside the cabinet on the front left corner. Remove the connector, turn 180 degrees, and stick back on.
