Initially, I thought this title would flop. After reading all the reviews from people who have played the game and watching the online videos, I am stoked to try it out.
I expect that it will be a huge hit. Maybe not right out of the gate, but shortly thereafter as people get a chance to play it.

Agreed. I might even go so far as to "hope" that you can disable that feature.
Still, I think the game as a whole is likely to be a massive hit.
I also had thought that the display animations for Aerosmith were nothing short of disastrous until I saw them in person. Now I think they're fantastic.
So just continue to keep an open mind. Selfies alone will not stop this pin from being awesome, assuming the rest of it can keep up -and from reports of people who have played it, that seems to be happening.
