Documenting the "before pictures" as I gather the parts and materials to start restoring this machine.

The person I bought this from told me that the owner before him put in LEDs in the playfield. Also, they drilled out the lock on the back so I had to remove that and will need a new one. The cabinet is not horrible, but there is some warping and chipped wood. So I'll be looking to fix it up, sand it, and restencil.

The playfield is beat up a bit. There was one touch up, but decided to get a nice new CPR playfield to replace it.

I noticed that the backglass is in pretty good shape, but there is 2 scrapes in the "jack pot".

My to-do list is as follows:

New playfield - Ordered and en route
Backglass lock - need to find
Wood epoxy for fixing cabinet - Ordered and en route
Stencil kit - need to order
Paints - will cross that bridge when I get to it
LED kit for backglass
LED Blue kit for score
New pinball

Plastics - are in good shape, I may/may not replace
Ramps - are in good shape, I don't know that I'll replace them

Alright, first big fix. Noticed the "Cyclone" letters were not lighting after I put in LEDs. Tracked it down to this:

I ordered the new connectors, and they came in today. So I popped the PCB off and flipped it over to see this :/

back (resized).jpgback (resized).jpg

Went to town with my solder gun and pulled the connector off and tried to clean up as best as I could, and make sure there was no solder crossing

back 2 (resized).jpgback 2 (resized).jpg

Inserted my new connector, and soldered it on

back 3 (resized).jpgback 3 (resized).jpg

Attached the connector

And...........! Nothing Lights were still not working.

I double, triple checked that the wires were seated and pushed them down as much as possible. Still nothing.

On a whim I traced the other way and noticed that the wires on the other end looked a bit odd

So I pushed on them to make sure they were seated. Sure enough, Success!!

So now my cyclone letters and the cyclone coaster light up

Nice, you can clean those header pins, you can use a fiberglass eraser pen to varnish those header pins on that remote board or just use a pencil eraser it works well.

Your Cyclone looks like it's in realy good shape and well preserved especially for the plastics, the ramps and the cabinet for which I would only do a few touch up, has it been home use only or was it at a location?
I'm currently in the process of a playfield swap for my own Cyclone and I do think it's a must if the playfield is in rough condition. your playfield doesn't look that badly damage from what I can tell. The artwork on back lane on mine was almost completely gone and had a brownish color to it.
Still, I can't wait to see more of that project!

It was in a home location, but the guy I bought it from only had it for a few years. One of the ramps is actually a bit melted, from the normal light that was under it before it was replaced by an LED. I decided to swap out all the ramps, since I'm going through with the playfield swap. As for the plastics, there are a few broken, so again, might as well swap them all out if I'm pulling everything off.

There are a number of places the playfield is worn, it's not rough per se, but it's my wife's favorite so I want to fix it up nice.

12 coats of SprayMax2K, wet block sanded and machine buffed your playfield is done and looks killer!

Where did you get the replacement playfield? CPR seems to be out of them.
