Quoted from mbwalker:

That's interesting. Easier to push a bunch of data down a couple of fiber lines than having individual copper wire going to every house.

One of the reasons to switch to fiber optics is economics. When the original phone lines were installed, the phone company powered it on their end. When the phone "rang" that power was provided by them.
With fiber optics, you now pay for the power. They provide you with a back up battery and charger but that power supply is you powering the system on your end. If you unplug, the phone will not ring.

At my camp in Maine I run an old Radioshack antenna with R/S booster.
2 stations and their substations are only available in the winter. I attribute this to trees.
I can only get the stations when it is cold (below20*F).
Is this because the atmosphere is thinner and the signal can travel farther?

The antenna is mounted on the chimney.
The amplifier uses 120v so it is in the basement.
There is 35 ft of cable between them. There is another 10 ft to the tv on the first floor.
This past summer, i tried a modern smaller digital antenna with the inline amplifier on the roof. I could not pick up those stations. I put everything back yhe way it was before

Thank you!
Read #1020.
I will source a LNA and try it out this spring. Too dangerous on the roof right now with all the snow.

JohnnyPinball007 I have used a converter for years and never had to unplug it.
But the one i had was ONLY a converter, not a recorder etc.

Quoted from mbwalker:

You might need a low noise amp (LNA for short) at the antenna.

There is still snow on the ground in Maine but the roof is clear.
Circling back to the Low Noise Pre-amp.
Many do not list the noise level.
Has anyone tried this one ?:

Will do!
Thanks
As i said in the original post, i can receive the 2 channels i am shooting for but only when it is very cold and calm in the winter.
Its worth a couple of bucks to experiment!
