Has anyone ever customized any sound eproms? Like adding your own music or speech to replace the original? It seems like it could be done if one knows what A/D conversion routine needs to be used and at what memory addresses each sound resides in.

I know this can be done on some old drum machines and such for custom percussion sounds, etc.

Still, was wondering if there are any good websites that deals with customizing PBall sound chips or if anyone has tried or done it.

I've customized some game roms for early Williams machines but never did a sound rom .. Interesting idea. I imagine it would require the same compilers and decompilers for the specific CPU on the sound board.

I'd be happy with my pop bumpers being customized to give me 5000 points when NOT lit...hehehe...

Have you searched the archives of RGP? Some folks are doing incredible work with changing the "attract" mode of early SS games. Youtube has a few and they are great.

I'm just starting to work on customizing roms, but assembly language is proving to be a difficult thing for me to learn. Not fun.

Hi guys, I know this is a very old post but I was hoping someone could help with current info as this link is dead now. I couldn't believe my luck seeing this post as its exactly what I was looking for.
I have the Back To The Future pin and it really bugs me that Marty McFlys voice is not MJ Fox but someone else seeing MJ Fox didn't want any part of the game. I would really like to swap out the fake Marty voice sounds with ones taken from the movie if such a thing is possible??
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks Mat

Not easy and even if you're successful may not work in the machine.

Thanks, that's fantastic. Appreciate the warning too. I had figured it would either be easy or very hard, nothing in between....
