I'd say as long as it's easily reversible give it a try, the whole point of owning machines is to make them look and play the way you want.
OP, they make stronger springs for the shooter rods, https://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/10-148-XX, and you can add some washers for spacers behind the eclip if the shooter rod is just a bit longer than the stock one. That might get it back to plunging the ball with some force if you like the look of the custom shooter.
