triple head-to-head Jungle Lord.. sure is a crazy custom and as someone mentioned takes up a LOT of floorspace, but its awesome too! I can only imagine what kind of complicated fun (frustration!) it'd be to make the controller(s?) and gameplay working good and being fun to play. nice one!

What do you mean by "controller"?

Quoted from ALJO:

Compared to all of these nice custom pins, mine is'nt up to them but here it goes anyway.

This is still, IMO, the most insane thing done. Do you still have this Claude? It would be interesting to take out the boards, P-roc it, and make a custom insane machine. You really should consider this, and do whatever you wanted with it, LCD and all!

One system could run all three, I bet selling the boards alone would fund close to the cost.

I'd thought it'd about require a computer controller and some programming for the 3 way gameplay, quite a bit beyond what each was as a standalone, even if they were originally taking turns multi-player games, is what I meant.

watching the video and reading the related thread again, I understand it a little more now too. the 3 independent machines run single player simultaneously, 5 drains eliminating a player, but their manual ball launch is made active while their playfield and scoring have been disabled (game over).
very innovative brilliant (and I'd missed it) use of the 3 controllers already in place!

#204 9 years ago

Yes, I still have the game.
Can anybody, even without the knowledge, P-roc a game?

Not sure, check out their site. I believe it's meant to be figured out by everyone.

This is cool! This is the kind of form factor I am dying to build with or FAST hardware. You could use a single FAST Controller and then probably 3 FAST I/O 3208s and 3 FAST I/O 0804s.

I would love to see this beast come to life!!!

Hey guys, have any of you considered to message IPDB for a custom section and upload images of your beautiful machines?

#213 9 years ago

Yes, I did, Jay said that he would think about, or as he says "chew on it", but that's 2 years ago.

Good idea.
I think he'll be quite impressed with what he will see here, there are really impressive pins on this thread.

Lots of cool engineering in that pin! too bad the layout doesn't look very well done. (from what i can see anyway)

Lots of cool ideas for themes, but I must say that I like the original PF's, Dispicable Me and The Invaders really get my attention and I find that they have lots of potentiel, I'm looking forward to see the final results.

I though about this once. I think it would work fine until you hit multiball, then you would need a good compressor to keep up. I had thought of using the compressor as a shaker motor too. It will be cool to see how it turns out.

Not sure if this was posted earlier in the thread, but Clippard (a pneumatic parts manufacturer) built an all pneumatic/hydraulic pinball machine called "Air Command" many years ago. I got to play it at a trade show a while back, it was interesting...

Hi guys- love this thread! I saw an earlier reference to my NOTLD machine, but I have several custom re themed machines I'll share with you along with some photos. Happy to discuss methods I used to piggyback new technologies to these old school machines- the zombie machine even has a self contained enclosed fog system and infinity mirror feature in the play field-it won a few ribbons at the World Maker Faire in NYC last year....enjoy and I welcome questions and discussions!

Is this themed after the Racer at Kennywood park? The artwork on the NOTLD looks great!

#224 9 years ago

Betelgeuse- yes! I love Kennywood and the Racer- I'm originally from Western PA but live in New England now....still get back "home" every summer..

How cool! Got a video or pics of this awesomeness?

#226 9 years ago

Love the toys and the blueprint playfield art, not sure about compressed air. There's one that shows up every year at chicago expo, never seems to be working when I want to try playing it (or it's too loud to run)

Here is a link to a video story of the development of the machine from "donor machine" to the (almost) finished product. The fog FX are hard to see in video- they are enclosed in the cemetery scene in the backglass. But a video of the bench test of the fog generating unit (developed with the help of an engineering senior design team at Roger Williams University) shows the fog much more clearly. I'll post that shortly.

First video is the "story":

Video of fog bench test not available online, but here is a still image:

OK- last post on this machine until asked to add anything else- Here are the photos of the Night of the Living Dead machine on display at the World Maker Faire in NYC last year. You can see some fog in the glass and the "infinity mirror" radio dial feature in a few of the shots:

Ideas for a retheme of existing donor game? built from scratch? What's your skill level?

Some people have technical skills, some are artistic, some are design types. I have been blessed with none of these skills.

I think a re theme would be great. I can take the game apart, but would need help with all of the custom art on the playfield, plastics and cabinet. My idea would work with a game that could make basic sounds, but I really don't enjoy the pre-ramp games that much. Minimal speech and a few custom sounds would be really good for the theme.

So something like the ghostbusters project (take a trashed flash gordon, redo the backglass, cabinet, and playfield art), then add custom sound with an mp3 board:
https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/first-look-ghostbusters-custom

I would hunt for a machine that works reasonably good but has a very trashed playfield. I've seen a few flash gordons and quite a few space shuttles the last couple years for less than $400. Strip the playfield down to the bare wood, take the top layer parts off, and scan it. If you post about it, I'm sure there's someone willing to help you out with the artwork so you can get an overlay printed.

I would assume the theme you'd want is led-zeppelin?

#240 9 years ago

No, but maybe one day. Zeppelin would have to play music, lots of it!

Thanks for the link.

I'm looking for options when re-doing playfield artwork (for a re-theme.) As near as I can tell the options are:

Remove the pf inserts, sand the entire playfield clean, replace the inserts then:
1) Have new artwork hand painted (airbrushed or otherwise) then clear coat.
2) Design your own artwork and send the playfield to "some" manufacturer who can print the new artwork directly on the playfield for you
OR
3) Have your artwork printed on a mylar type material and apply it yourself

Suggestions? Who has the equipment to print art directly onto a playfield? Are there playfield artwork templates available for certain games? Any tips on sanding a playfield and prepping it?

THANKS

#250 9 years ago

I sand the artwork down with a random orbit sander, starting with 60 grit then going to 120 grit, then spraying 3 coats of clear lacquer on, then install vinyl overlays and then 3 coats of auto clear coat, the 3 coats of waxed buffed.
The only guy I know who prints directly on playfields is the guy on pinside doing only Sorcerer playfields for $500 each, they look incredible!
I get overlays printed and install them. Not always do they line up perfectly, but the do look good and seem to not wear as of yet. Sanding your playfield down and having an artist air brush the artwork is a good idea, if the artist uses materials that can be clear coated over. Thinking about going that route some day, when there is nothing left to do. playfields 003.JPGplayfields 003.JPG
