About how many times should the ball trigger the opto while it's spinning in the centrifuge? I read a review that says roughly 25. Mine is maybe 8-10 because it doesn't actually spin smoothly around the entire circle. It sort of spins right, goes to the top and slightly beyond and then "falls" to the bottom and bangs on the wall to the left of the exit/entrance over and over.

Here's a cheap but noticeable mod you can do to your CSI. While LED'ing my game yesterday, I put a bendie LED in the bullet (above the scoop) pointing toward the clear plastic tip of the bullet. This dramatically lights up the bullet tip because ALL the light is pointed in the direction of the clear tip... whereas a regular bulb couldn't do that.

You only have to remove the rear screw on the bullet completely. The other bullet screw can be loosened and then the plastic pivots out of the way so you can access the bulb. Don't drop the tiny circular plastic spacer between the bullet and the plastic when you pull the screw out! I did.
