Quoted from Heretic_9:[Have tried to plug-in the advice from the 'Efficiently Ask for Help' sticky, as best I could.]
Thank you for that.
Quoted from Heretic_9:The primary issue is that when a game is won -- either on points, on a Special, or on a Match -- the Credits wheel goes the wrong way and decrements one credit -- that is, goes backwards or deducts a game -- rather than adding one. Other times there is the "thunk" sound for a game won, but the Credits reel does not change at all. And some other times it does just what it should be doing.
This sounds to me like this could be more of a mechanical issue than an electrical one. The knocker for example can only fire if the advance arm on the credit unit closes its EOS switch (E22 on the schematic) so the fact that the knocker fired and the credit unit didn't advance means that the circuitry did its thing but the unit somehow dropped the ball.
If you haven't already I'd encourage you to shut the power off, and then manually exercise the credit unit. There are two coils each with its own plunger. You should be able to push either plunger all the way in and then let it go and have the credit unit take one solid step up or down. If it both plungers can't do that reliably that's a place to start. Also, while you're pushing in plungers, observe any switches that are (or should be) activated by the motion of the plungers and their related arms. Convince yourself that the switches open and close appropriately with the motion of the unit. Next, check the pin(s) on the gear. They too should open and close switches as the credit unit reaches its limits of 0 credits and 14 (or whatever) credits. And finally, check that the credit wheel is firmly gripping the gear shaft. If it's loose the credit unit gear could be doing the right thing while the credit wheel is just flopping around back and forth.
