I learned a trick watching a tech at our NWPAS show - When working on a raised playfield hold a telescoping magnet under the screw or nut you are removing to catch it when (not if!) it falls.

I used to fish them out with a dental pick, then another local guru suggested that I simply screw the nut back on a thread or two, pull the driver off of it, and take it off by hand or telescoping magnet.
