Went to crab town tonight with some friends and every time I go it seems 3 to 4 pins are down. The rest play but are dirty. So it left me kinda disappointed.

Anyone know other places in MD to play pinball ?

    #2 3 years ago

I had the same experience. Kinda disappointed.

    #3 3 years ago

The Vollyball House in Elkridge has a few pins.

    #4 3 years ago

Yeah, VBH has about 11 now I believe. (There's 4 in a separate area next to the back of the soccer field in addition to the main area.) sometimes the staff doesn't turn them on if it's not a league night. If that's the case, feel free to turn them on.

    #5 3 years ago

Yes, I thought Crabtowne was a cruel pinball experience, so many pins - but not maintained and most playing just minimally correct. I know that's a huge project to rehab all of them but it could be such a stellar display!

    #6 3 years ago

Mt. Vernon Stable (TSPP, SM great ribs a wings), Charles St. Pub (TWD, great cheeseburgers) Holy Frijoles (8+ pins) and in DC Lyman's Traven (current fav. 8+ pins).

    #7 3 years ago

I was also disappointed with Crabtowne, it's a shame, it could be a much more popular spot if they just kept after the games. I'd recommend Timeline Arcade in Hanover, PA - it's not Maryland, but it's within about an hour from Baltimore. They've got about 15-20 pins plus some classic arcade standups and more.

    #8 3 years ago

Black Cat in DC has a good lineup of pins too.

    #9 3 years ago

What shape are the pins at Holy Frijoles in??

I know that Crabtown used to have a deal with some local pinball repair person that would regularly go and upkeep the games - I guess at some point they stopped that service, most likely because the games weren't bringing in the revenue needed.

They've been great. Occasionally a machine will have an issue but it is resolved on the next visit.

Nice find. I will need to check it out.

    #15 3 years ago

Looks like I'll be stopping by Holy Fijoles.

Parkville lanes has pins?! Wow, whoda thunk it? I used to play video games there after some duck pin bowling, oh, say 30 years ago!

    (Wow, I'm old!)

    #16 3 years ago

Last time I want to crabtown I couldn't stop scratching.

    #17 3 years ago

My father is in a duckpin league at Parkville. I'll have to ask him about the pins. Maybe I'll go watch him bowl a few frames this week.

    gliebig, and report back!!

    #19 3 years ago

TAF is really dirty. Hard to see inserts light up. Zero ball save and weak flips. I tired quickly of feeding the beast. NFL has some broken bits. I played better on that one. (Center drain post. Yay.)

    #20 3 years ago

Hmmm, such a shame - the joys(?) of location playing.......Thanks!!

    #21 3 years ago

gliebig - just an FYI... if it makes you feel better, there is no ball save on TAF.

    #22 3 years ago

I can only imagine all the crusty old bay seasoning caked on the flipper buttons.

Ahh. Should be the way it was draining on me. It didn't discriminate. Down the middle, left outlane, right outlane...that ball wanted nothing to do with playing pinball.

Boiler Room also has a Stern Harley-Davidson, don't remember which edition.

When did Holy Frijoles get pins?
    Has the food improved any?

I guess at least the last year or 2. TBL is on the way there once they start shipping. I'm not a big Mexican food guy so no opinion on that. The Tequila is great!

    #27 3 years ago

Plenty on locations in Ocean City too once the weather gets warmer.

    #28 3 years ago

Yes, I read the reviews, food sounds dicey, but not going there to eat anyways! Will report back once I stop in - can't wait to play if they get Big Lebowski!! Maybe we can have a "meet n greet" there with the locals???

Haha! Love it, Old Bay encrusted buttons, yep!!!

    #29 3 years ago

The machines are very poorly maintained at crabtowne. I played the BK2K, it was in decent shape. I also played my first Bad Cats there and it inspired me to buy one.
What did you think about the Kiss machine? It looks like it was last shopped in 1979.
On the plus note, Crabtowne has let us host several arcade partys there and were kind enough to let us use a couple long tables for a swap meet.

    Quoted from BMore-Pinball:

I visited Holy Frijoles for the first time yesterday and I asked the manager the same question out of curiosity since I'm not a local. She said the owner has always collected pinball machines as a personal hobby and has always stored them upstairs. Someone convinced him last summer (2015) to put some of them in the restaurant. She said he still has like 5-6 upstairs that he is repairing. Overall, my visit was OK as they had 3-4 pins down out of the 9 total.

As for the food, it was pretty good. I got steak fajitas and the meat was a good cut. My girlfriend got tacos and she enjoyed them as well.

    Quoted from Fliptastic:

Plenty on locations in Ocean City too once the weather gets warmer.

Please expand on this. I know Fish Tales has Fish Tales, and that the arcades on the boardwalk have a few, but where else do they have pins?

For those of you interested Crabtown now has a Ghostbusters Pro.

On another note, I made my first visit there yesterday. Such a shame. The potential at this place is unbelievable, however all of the pinball machines are extremely dirty. Most games look like they have never seen a cloth and cleaner solution. Seriously it takes 2 minutes to slide the glass off and wipe a game down.

    #32 2 years ago

My crabtown experience was the same. Pins were so dirty, made me not want to even play. I heard Holy Frijoles had a major fire and is closed.

Yeah it's a shame they don't take care of there pins.... It could be great place for pinball

I live about 15 minutes from Crabtown and believe it or not...the games are in better condition now than they were 4-5 months ago. There are 2 new guys doing the repairs and the games are at least fully functional for the most part.

I was going to say the same thing - I just saw a Facebook post from Crabtown thanking new guys for taking care of their pins and bringing them back to life. But from the sounds of it - the most basic cleaning isn't being done. That's something the restaurant needs to do as part of it's closing - simply spend a few minutes and wipe the machines down.

Such a shame that the Baltimore area doesn't have more choices to play pinball.

At least u have some .... if i want to play i have to buy it lol.....

    #38 2 years ago

Thanks however to Jeffc for a list of some other available options with some machines to play all drunked up.....

    #39 2 years ago

As for Crabtown, when I was there yesterday there was a gentlemen repairing World Cup Soccer as it was broke. I'm assuming he fixed it as he removed the out of service sign from the machine and left it on. At no point did he take a moment to wipe down the inside of the machine once he finished his repairs. It would have been nice for him to at least take a minute to wipe it down while he had the glass of. After fixing World Cup he then proceeded to work on an arcade game, so it does appear they have technician "fixing" things.

As for Holy Frijoles, yes they did indeed have a fire at the end of summer and they are currently closed. They are supposed to rebuild and reopen at some point, although no time table has been mentioned. Also, not sure how bad the fire was and if any of the pinball machines were lost. The good thing is no one was hurt.

It's a good thing that there getting all games working plus new pins now. Hopefully there get all the pins cleaned up too
