Sweet, now I just need to find a Taxi looking for a restore!

#3 6 years ago

Cant wait.....oh wait I'm on the list but no machine.....crap-0.
They say when you buy parts for a machine you don't own you have lost it...consider me lost

#4 6 years ago

Awesome. I have a Taxi that is ready. I have new ramps and plastics in the parts bin just waiting for the playfield.

#5 6 years ago

I'm lost too then. Don't have the game, bought the playfield. I have seen too many poor Taxis with pop bumper wear and I want to make a difference. lol

#6 6 years ago

Looks awesome, and a Marilyn to boot!

#7 6 years ago

Does look great. Too bad I missed getting in on the preorder by a couple of days.

Anyone know if they are producing extra and having some available for sale or when/if they will have another preorder?

I guess I can disassemble and send out for restoration, but I'd rather have a new one. I can't stand the thought of not being able to play my Taxi for that long!

Most of the time they have "seconds" where they aren't prefer playfields for sale. And I think Bay Area amusements may have a couple for sale.

#9 6 years ago

Nothing for sale as of yet, but I'll keep an eye out on Bay Area, MAD, Marco, etc and for the seconds at CPR. A second is better than what I have now.

Thanks for the heads up.

They look great Stu!

Makes me wish I bought that blown out Taxi on CL for $850 a few months ago...

#12 6 years ago

They haven't shipped yet. I got my email to order on the first day - I'll let you know when the package arrives.

#13 6 years ago

does your slot allow you to buy more than one playfield? I would be ok with a silver or bronze for the second one...

#14 6 years ago

Yes there isn't a limit that I know of. It gives prices for up to three shipped. Silver doesn't have a discount, but they did offer a cheaper version with some cloudy inserts this time.

#15 6 years ago

Keep in mind that if you buy More than what you asked for in the Pre-Order then some people will not get the 1 that they Pre-Ordered after you as we only make enough to cover the Pre-Order List. So if someone asked for 1 in their Pre-Order eMail and acutally Buys 3 then 2 other people wont get the 1 they Pre-Ordered > so please Buy Responsibly......

If your buying more than one I'm going out on a limb to say your a flipper.

#17 6 years ago

Lets see.... My avatar is Gorby, I rate taxi 10/10... yah, you got me.

How do you pre-order more than one? I've never seen that explained anywhere. I even got this on WW explaining more than one email doesn't give you two pfs...

"This is an auto-reply to confirm that your playfield preorder email has landed in the Whirlwind inbox that you sent it to. Thank you for jumping onto the run. If you had previously sent in your email to this box from 2009 onwards, we have every single email going right back to the beginning. If this was a second email you sent, it doesn't mean you have mistakenly reserved two or more playfields. Don't worry. The worst that will happen is you will receive more than one instructions-email at pay time. We respond individually to each and every email sent into every preorder inbox. If you only wanted one, dont worry about duplicate emails"

#19 6 years ago

it's just that > an EMAIL....Many people click on the eMail Pre-Order Link, which again is just a 'regular' eMail box and type in that they want 2 or 3 of this title....or they simply say I want one of these.....so when it comes time to Order Inserts for a specific title we count up how many people want & that's how many we make ( I have already explained why we can't make 20-30 More than what is Pre-ordered). So let's say we have 115 eMails in the Taxi playfield Pre-Order eMail Box and we add up all the Totals that every body wants & that total is 140 > we will make 155 boards to allow for a few 'bronze' mishaps + the quantity that we surender for the Licensing Compensation + the Partners & the Original Artist. Now, fast forward to us sending out the EMails for a "Call for Payment" and 5 of those people that Originally Pre-Ordered " 1 " Playfield now decide that they are going to buy 3 so that they can "flip them" for a higher price at the end...you see where this is going....those 5 people were to take 1 each ( a total of 5 ) and are now Buying 3 each ( times 5 people ) is now 15 boards > which now means that 10 people on the Original Pre-Order List won't get one because the Flippers went Greedy on their purchase buying more than they originally ordered.....This is 1 of the reasons why people don't get the Playfields they pre-ordered....

I don't understand this. I pre-ordered; but I might not get a board because you'll allow someone ahead of me to order more than one board? Shouldn't it be that everyone gets one until the list has gone through, then you can give others another crack at a second playfield? If you just let everyone at the front of the line order as many as they want then there's no point in pre-ordering at all, it's basically first in line can gorge themselves. I don't see how you don't have control over this?

#21 6 years ago

believe me > I brought this topic up with CPR a couple of times and tried to rectify it with the same solution you have just spoke of.....We do what we can to try and get everyone a playfield that pre-ordered one.....99% of the time it all works out because there is usually about 15% of the pre-orders that don't actually buy the product that they Pre-Ordered > which allows us to sell them to other poeple on the Pre-order List or the Wait List after the Pre-Order list has been purged....

Quoted from Richthofen:

but I might not get a board because you'll allow someone ahead of me to order more than one board?

#22 6 years ago

This was never brought up before, and I am definitely an unintentional offender. I usually buy more than one, but never knew I had to specify how many I wanted at the time of pre-order. I will definitely have to change what I'm doing. It makes sense now that I think of it, boy do I feel dumb.

Scott

#23 6 years ago

Well, I hope I get my playfield. I'm excited to tear down my taxi and attempt to make it better than new. If I don't get it, it's just a hobby. I'll be ok. I'll tell you one thing, though. I wouldn't even pay a penny over the price from CPR to a flipper.

I am really surprised that this is allowed. If someone preorders one playfield, that is what they should get.
But because they are greedy, someone else suffers?
very weird business practice

#25 6 years ago

I'm just glad that I have owned my Taxi so long that the PF is in pretty good shape. I kept procrastinating about ordering one. Besides, I want to keep mine Lola.

I have to agree here. If you pre-ordered 1, then that is what you should get,. If there are "leftovers" you can buy extras from distributors, who I don't think upcharge, at least not on the plastics sets.

I understand this is not YOUR company Stu, and not your decision, but it seems to alienate people that are your customer base.

Chris

#27 6 years ago

I agree with all of the statements above with regards to not allowing over-purchasing. CPR should set up their pre-orders so that they require a small, non-refundable deposit (say $25) for *each* playfield that a customer wants to reserve (the monies can be held in a separate escrow account for each playfield).

when the playfields become available, those customers can pay off the remainder of their balance to purchase up to the number of playfield(s) that they reserved. those who decide not to purchase, forfeit their deposit. CPR has around for a while now and this is something that isn't rocket science to set up.

Taxi looks great Stu. ...and even if it's years away - I still say 'Cmon Paragon~!'

Wow... I don't even know what to say about this. Setting it up this way just makes no sense when looking back in hindsight to high demand runs such as Whirlwind; the only justification I can see is CPR does not require a deposit.

Not pointing fingers I am just shocked people who preordered one are allowed to buy 5, 10, 20 (is there a limit?) and bump out other preorders on occasion. Can a well heeled collector commit to a single one early on and then buy out the entire run just for kicks? A ridiculous example, but why not if there are no rules in place? What is the cut off?

The eMail that people receive as a Call for Payment ONLY allows for a Maximum of 3...Let's not get carried away with this...

I'm glad it's Marilyn, but I find it funny they didn't run half and half. There seems to be just as many of each version out there. Maybe the logistics were too complicated? Stu?

#34 6 years ago

Alright, I just looked up marilyn roms. i can swing the 18 bucks. Maybe I'll just paint the hair on the translite to match.

#35 6 years ago

maybe this will swing the "rarity" over to the Lola side now.

#36 6 years ago

Hey Stu or someone who has already received the email to order, can you list the email address so I can add it to my contacts so I don't miss the email? I'm afraid the email may dump in my junk box and I will forget to check it. I'm probably fairly low on the pre-order list b/c it closed about a month after I pre-ordered. Thanks.

#37 6 years ago

so don't buy it....pretty simple logic...

oh i am buying it. just expressing a small disappointment. is that not allowed?

#39 6 years ago

Running 'both' versions would have turned it into 2 Completely different runs of Playfields...Different set of Films at $1,400/set + All New Screens ( 1 Screen for each Color ) + All new Set-ups...it's like running 2 Different Playfield Titles instead of 1 and we found that 99% of the people we talked to wanted this version (including myself and I need a new playfield for my Marilyn version pin)....

Cool; thank you for the clarification!

#41 6 years ago

Holy Crap Batman! What a difference all those years does to the hues of the original colors!!!

#42 6 years ago

yeah if you don't have an NOS UnFaded one to compare it to you really don't know just how faded those colors really are....A great example is the Fathom playfield, every one of them out there was Very Green when the correct colors were Nice Blues....

#43 6 years ago

Just out of curiosity, what are the average turnaround times for CPR playfields, from pre-order to delivery.

#44 6 years ago

not good to judge it that way...some titles like Bad Cats have been on the Pre-Order for years (like 5 now), and Whirlwind was Open on the Pre-Order for a year - then Closed for 3 years - then Re-Opened for another year - then it was made....Other playfields are on the pre-Order for just a couple (6) months and then they are made. it all depends on how fast the pre-Order fills up to our capacity level + what Inserts we have available + what Size Wood we have in stock...and the list goes on & on.....Once we actually Start making the Playfield an average turn-around time is a couple of months and once it's done being Clear-Coated we wait a couple of weeks to start shipping them so that the clear-coat can Breath and Cure befor putting in into a box.....

#45 6 years ago

It would seem to me if there are people who want to buy more than 1, then allow for that to be specified in the pre-order. The pre-order then fills up faster and playfields get made quicker. To help cover the possibility of making too many playfields at a loss, require a non-refundable deposit. And maybe not do this for every playfield, but at least for the ones that you think are going to be popular.

Thanks for the info Stu, it's nice having a Pinsider who's also an "insider" at CPR.

Has anyone actually received one in the mail yet? Curious what the consensus is on quality. Did they remember to drill the flipper alignment holes? My CPR WW playfield didn't have them. Not a big deal, just curious.

A lot of games didn't have the holes, and in my experience more often than not the holes did not align the flippers properly.

bad business ethics, they should stipulate conditions before ordering

#50 6 years ago

My playfield arrived today and I couldn't be happier. Nicest playfield I've purchased to date. Simply stunning! Thank you Stu & CPR. It's going to be tough to make the rest of the pin match the quality of the playfield.
