Per CPR's instructions I began attempting the soldering iron method to remove the riveted standoff from my old Eight Ball Deluxe plastics to replace onto my newly acquired CPR plastics. It didn't go well enough for me to have any level of confidence to continue this method.

Has anyone had success re-riveting, if so, what tool did you use? Or should I suck it up and try again to not melt the plastic with the soldering iron method? This is one of those "there has to be a better way" situations.

I modified the Harbor Freight 1 ton Arbor Press as shown here https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/which-arbor-press-to-modify-for-pinrestore-rivet-press-kit Someone made a baggy of parts for this conversion and the rivet dies/rivets were pretty cheap and easy to get.

If you want to ghetto rig something you can get a handheld rivet die and just support the cap of the rivet on a cement floor but ymmv.

Thanks Bischt that gets me a lot closer than I was. Only issue now is that the Pinball Rehab site doesn't appear to be live anymore. I'll see if I can't pull it from an archive. Do you happen to have any info on how you converted your press for this?

If you are talking about the clear plastics, the standoffs are not riveted to the plastic.

The kit I used was from https://pinrestore.com/ They are down now but claim to be back up in "early june" so soon?

    Quoted from jj44114:

If you are talking about the clear plastics, the standoffs are not riveted to the plastic.

In the case of my Eight Ball Deluxe I have clear plastics and plastics with art that have riveted stand offs.

Perhaps I'm using the wrong term? I've included an image of an old clear plastic and the piece I'm looking to remove.

Those are not riveted and there is no use for rivets here. There is a metal lip on the standoffs that holds them to the plastics.

I find it easy to stick the tip of the soldering iron through the bottom of the standoff and up through the whole at the top. In a few seconds, the plastic gets soft enough to wiggle the standoff from the plastic.

I've always preyed them out of the old, take a dermal cut off disk and remove just the upper lip.

Thanks, I searched and searched trying to find a relevant topic but apparently my search terms were not quite right. Appreciate the help, you as well @jj44114.

When I had World Cup Soccer 94 replacement plastics and needed to add brackets, I followed the Dremel - Drill method. Variable speed Dremel to slow it down and not overheat the plastics. Small drill bit of course.

Vid had the thread on this for stand up target rivets: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/replacing-stand-up-target-faces-vids-guide

    Still good advice...

And yes, there is no other way to remove the metal stand-offs any easier. Stick to the heat for those.
